Bounties

  • So I know bounties have been mentioned before, but I had a few ideas on the subject I wanted to bring up.

I think by implementing a bounty system on ships that sink solo ships or specifically merchant voyages(though not necessarily. I just think the merchant voyage part would somewhat fit the theme). You could also make it any ship that sinks another ship in outpost waters, as conflict wouldn't be forbidden at an Outpost, but it should be discouraged.

The bounty system could then allow other ships to see the current skins and locations of their bounty at an outpost, perhaps with an NPC helping(how exact of a location is up to debate). This would allow other ships to have a general location to look for the bounty vessel.

The crew that caused the most damage to the bounty vessel will receive the reward at an outpost without having to physically turn in anything.

    It's just a thought I had.

  • I like the idea of a specific action triggering a bounty.

The other option is creating some sort of voyage that puts a bounty on your head. (Say a specific legendary voyage). While doing said voyage you would know the entire server is hunting you.

  • @omnipotence13

I like the voyage bounty idea too, but perhaps I'd like that to be a special bounty.
I'd mainly like this bounty to be like a "You're a dirty dirty pirate" mechanic, primarily influencing gameplay by putting a price on your head. Maybe it goes up as you fight off bounty hunters successfully.

  • Your suggestion would backfire so hard!

I would feel encouraged to kill everything, if I had the chance to get a bounty on my head.
Especially, if this bounty attracts other ships to battle!

Ok, but then you'd be too busy to do it again. Because you'd be being attacked.

  • Many players here state that they want only PVP. Allowing a bounty system (triggered by an action) would in turn give them that. Any aggressive player would hunt them, giving them that PVP experience while at the same time reducing their need to pick on empty sloops who don’t want PvP.

A great addition could also be to have NPCs in the Taverns giving up to date location hints of the ship with the bounty on it.

  • @omnipotence13

Exactly. I don't know how exact you'd want the location to be, but I would definitely want it to show you their current ship skin.

For 5 minutes, then the fight is over and either me is dead or the bounty hunter. In both cases I can continue to do whatever I want.
How do these 5 minutes of being busy help anybody?

  • @longingfern4785
You're also assuming only one ship is coming after you.

You're also assuming only one ship is coming after you.

And you are assuming a lot:

    1. ... that anybody would care about the bounty. Players are literally swimming in gold. Who will stop his current quest for sailing to the other end of the map to fight some troublemaker.

    2. ... that bounty hunters hunting for a bounty would ally.
In game I have seen galleons on the way to the fort, sinking each others, although there was already a galleon on the fort. All ships are at war! You suggested some competition for the bounty hunters yourself: Who ever does the most damage, gets the most. You will do more damage, if you sink your competitors first.

If your wildest dreams come true and some galleon on the other end of the map hears your call for revenge, then they will first complete their current task on the island they are currently on. Then they will go to the next outpost and sell everything, so they don't lose the stuff in the upcoming fight. Then they'll have to sail to the target.
This will take how long? It takes me up to 30 minutes to empty my ship sometimes. So they will be on target after 45 minutes? You will get help after some 15 to 45 minutes, in the best case.

    And then?

Let's say you are super lucky and there are three galleons hunting for the villian. They ally, they sink the villian. Ok, then my assumption to be busy for 5 minutes is wrong. The villian will sink in one minute and will be able to continue his evil work after this one minute.

I play this game for PvP and the best thing, that could happen, would be a fight with multiple ships. If I have to sink some solo slooper to achieve this: ANY TIME.

  • @longingfern4785
Think of what that means for PvP though. You have reason and active indication of ship location. You can more actively PvP. Just because you have a bounty doesn't mean you can't bounty hunt yourself ;D

  • @longingfern4785
Also, galleons will fight on the way to the fort under the concept that they have to kill them both anyway. I'm not arguing the concept is correct, but that would be the reason. But fighting each other wouldn't be as good for them as just doing more damage to the bounty than the other ships.

  • A good idea, but still needs much work.
