Large center island with town as a community hub

  • I'd love to see a Large center island that is like a community hub for all the different servers. Once you sail into its harbor, you get loaded into this map. It would be like a pirate freehaven, where fighting is not allowed (you can do no damage to other players), but you can NOT enter it with any loot still aboard your ship (so it won't be a safe place you can flee to with your loot if you are being chased). In the town would have like a massive tavern where you can interact with other players, share a drink and brag about your adventures, but also join or recruit a crew. You could also introduce some mini game options there, like arm wrestling, gambling, dueling or testing your sharpshooting abilities against other players for some gold.

In the town you could also have warehouses where you can either sell planks, canonballs or bananas at the end of your journey, save them (for a fee) or buy them at the start if you can't be bothered to loot barrels.

As for entering the town, you can do so either from the start menu, in which case you would start without a ship or you can sail into the bay from within the game (and anchor your galleon in the bay or park your sloop in the harbor).

I think that would be an awesome addition and would increase the community sense withing the game itself.

  • love it! Animal crossing Pirate style. Don't like the idea of selling boat cargo but the rest is 100% me.

    Darts in the tavern

  • This idea still doesn't solve the problem of players camping outside of it, just sitting and waiting to sink ships as they leave, just for the sake of PvP.

  • I've been wanting a community hub since forever. love this idea! it could also help with players having issues finding other crews to help them on weekly events, maybe? :)

  • @ZippyJarl Oh nice... love darts!

Don't know why this idea is supposed to have already solved a problem that doesn't exist yet. But it is pretty easily solved with a bit of code that spawns a ship leaving the harbor on a random side of the island, or even purposely on a side that doesn't have a ship nearby (the way you currently don't spawn at an outpost or island that already has a ship there)

That would definitely be one of the benefits!

but surely you wouldn't care if your ship was empty? I know I wouldn't. If someone wants to wait outside an island to sink empty ships then we should pity them and maybe even offer counselling or the very least a hug

It's supposed to solve the problem before it exists so we don't have said problem to begin with; it's preventitive. That said, your idea is a good one, but won't this whole thing make outposts rather pointless?

  • @zippyjarl While I'm all for hugs, I'm not in favor of having my time wasted.

  • just no... no...no

It's just an idea, not a fully completed addition. If Rare offered me a job, I'd work out all the kinks before implementing it into the game... ;)

Also, like I said: you are not allowed into the harbor with any loot on board, so you'd still have to go to an outpost tho sell what you have. That and the clothing/item shops are really the only things you do at an outpost anyway, so I don't think the community hub would affect that.

  • @woutah78 Not out of the question either, seeing as another massive multiplayer release of the year - Monster Hunter World has this in the form of the Gathering Hub!

  • I'm going to say no to this Idea.
I don't like the Idea of safe zones. Just let people be free to kill and be killed. I also hate having another instance to go to. The world is vast and open, having a loading screen seperate this would just break it for me. The only loading screen I want to see is at the beginning and a small one at the ferry.

I'd love to see a gathering hub somewhere. Not a safe zone just a place where people can meet up who want to do events together and just want to roll up. Problem is people are people and will abuse this, that wont last long however because killing people who dont fight back is only fun for so long.

  • Ok I dig this idea but leave fighting the pirate town cuz think about it we are pirates bar brawls is what we do best just make the respawn right there in town either in a bunk room or near the docks instead of on the the Farry of the Damned but I love the idea of mini games like arm wrestling and Liars Dice their should be special shops too that have stuff that’s not at the other outposts as well also I agree you Shouldn’t be aloud to bring treasure their in fact the quest givers shouldn’t be there at all

  • @woutah78 love your idea man. Rare take notes pls

  • @hynieth Don't really understand how this would be a safe zone, anymore than the start menu of the game or the xbox club where you can go to look for crews. you can't kill or be killed in those places either. This would just be integrating that functionality into the graphic environment within the game.

  • @otherfanboy Lol, waking up in the hospital ward... ;)

Maybe, but I still think you should limit fighting to duels that both parties agree upon, just to prevent trolls coming in a blunderbussing people who are just looking for a crew.

You said so yourself, so that's a safe zone. A pre game hub is different. Also that would impact the flow of the game, now it's just klick klick you're in if you'd impliment a pre game hub you'd be tired of it after 5 times. (just like with playstation home (anyone remember that?))

  • @woutah78 as nice of an idea as that is, I was loading up my sloop once to solo, and a galleon spawned in right next to me at daggertooth outpost. Gave me a heart attack.

  • @hynieth Well if you are being chased in the game now, you can also choose to leave the game and load back in on another server, so that's kinda the same thing. And it's not a pre-game hub you would have to load into, just an option. You'd also still be able to start the game the way you are now.

Like I said: it would simply be like a community hub within the graphic environment of the game.

  • I don't care it's a safe zone or not, just make it happen Rare please. The Golden Age of Piracy can't be without it.

  • @woutah78 that’s a good idea agreed duels could be a blast and you could even make bets on who would win putting gold down on the fight even as a bystander ..also b****r you in the hospitable hope your ok get better soo

  • @otherfanboy hahaha, I'm not in the hospital man, I mean that as a suggestion for the respawn if you die in the town, rather than the ferry of the dead ;)

Exactly, it's an empty ship, let them sink you, you will just respawn at an outpost, not at the community hub. This place is just for finding crews to help with other things, and not real life currency gambling in arm wrestles and stab-the-crab (whack-a-mole) style games.

It would be a nice addition - the only issue I see with it is if you want to join up with other crews (fleet style) then you will have people just farming from the hub and maxing out a server with people they know. They would maybe need to make it a maximum of 4 ships can enter the hub at any one time to avoid this?

  • All of the fun I have in this game is due to played interaction. Whether it be pvp or just boarding their ship to talk or help. That's why I just suggested an increase in ship frequency seen in the map. This is an awesome alternative. I'd love a central hub to let me gather and meet people. I don't like the no pvp thing though. I say allow people to still shot each other on the island and on ships but put some npc turrets up and if they detect a ship firing canons they start firing on that ship....I think the biggest deyerance will be the number of people on the island but it would still be cool to be able to shoot. But don't put any trades in Oakland it shouldn't be a place to sell goods

I'm not suggestion gambling for real life currency. It's a game for all ages, so only in game gold or dubloons.

The hub would be separate from the other servers, so once you enter the game from it, different ships go to different servers. Though sometimes it would be nice if you could get on one server with more than 3 friends. They could make it a maximum of 2 ships though, so 6 to 8 people.

  • @woutah78 oh totally miss read that lol

  • @woutah78 I think a better approach would be using the mermaids to enter said island (I call it Tortuga). You can't bring booty with you that way. If everyone in your crew opt to do that, your ship sinks (if it isn't already) and gets removed from the server. You'll find yourself washed ashore on Tortuga with no supplies (like usual on a new server).

When leaving Tortuga, again via mermaid your inventory is cleared as well (assuming there are supplies on Tortuga for some cannon lessons etc.). You're brought back to your crew if still existent or spawn with a new ship at an outpost (just like default start).

    • Option to form a crew while on Tortuga and leave as one (poor mermaid)
    • Option to start on Tortuga (to avoid unnecessary loading)

Don't place an actual island on the map. Only the lost and mermaids/mermen know it's location.

  • It would help loads the ones trying to find crews to help with the events. It would be nice

  • @hynieth You're going to hate being a Pirate Legend, then... because you load into that, as well... and it is a shared space for every Legend on the server.

  • Opinion:

No needed since 5 ships on server its maximum size
If server can hold more then 10+ ships than we can talk about it.

No because as the original post said the hub couldn't turn in loot..?

  • I would much rather a community hub than these quests where we have to trust other pirate crews to play nicely with us. Rare can then have players meeting players. You could even set up stalls there for each faction where players could meet other players and make new friends looking to do the same things in game. The possibilities are endless.

  • I like this idea alot!
    Good work lad!
And there should be the odd bar room brawl too.
