Can you PLEASE insert a MATCHMAKING BASED ON LEVEL?

  • I'm sick and tired to constantly jump from a server to another because I always get matched with new players. I don't mean to be rude, I even like to teach them SOMETIMES. NOT EVERY TIME. I am not a teacher, I am a player and I want to play with people that know what they are doing. I am level 44/40/41 and I always get matched with SAILORS, LEVEL 0 PLAYERS. I wouldn't even mind if I got matched with a level 20 player, every single time I get the new guys playing for the first time, playing instruments and getting drunk, mechanics that got old playing the ALPHA.
The video that tells us how to find crewmates is not a valid improvement, it's too much work because you always need someone on your friend list to be online, things would be easier if you could just be matched with players with a similar level.

Am I alone on this? Let me know if I'm the only one that would like this change.

  • @brio-brumm I would suggest either the offical SoT discord, Reddit SoT discord, Xbox SoT club. They all have a LFG channel where players routinely list level/experience requirements for groups.

  • you can always use discord to find crewmates if you find having friends to be too complicate/cumbersome

  • Jesus C****t.
    I KNOW
BUT IT'S NOT THE SAME THING
It would be quicker if they made this change rather than looking for a crew on discord or whatever site

  • @brio-brumm Well you're probably not alone in wanting it but that probably goes against Rare's vision which is experienced pirates coaching newer pirates (which I know you said you do from time to time).

  • @brio-brumm

quicker for you, not the devs

  • @xcalypt0x

exactly, which is why a brand-new player can turn in a Chest of Legends & get credit for it

just cause we are all the same or there is no progression doesn't mean this isn't a valid concept. almost every game that makes players equal- still divides based on time played/skill. PUBG makes everyone start in a plane with nothing, everyone equal. Yet they divide player base based on skill. racing games, basketball/sports games or rocket league all put players in equal footing but understand that some poeple are just GOOD at games, especially against new players and so they segregate them for the health of the game.

Im not saying SOT needs a matchmaking based on level. (maybe it does, but different thread) But the concept of delineating skill levels despite players being equal is something that is usually done in most games.

Hidden MMR's are based on things like kdr, Time alive, Time in total etc. All these are ranked or recorded for us to even see and a game like this how do you even do that with things like cannons and powderkegs?

Again im not advocating it, just explaining a concept common in most games. a sailer who is 40/40/40 could probably destroy a newbie in a PVP encouter - which would not leave a nice taste a new players mouth. this is often refereed to as smurfing and is prevented by taking time played in a game and matchmaking you with others who have similar time invested. if there is stats or ranking, then the MMR is taken into consideration

Regardless the OP's issue could be solved with a LFG or discord. which is what i would advocate he do, but the point he is making is not lost on me either

  • This seems fundamentally opposed to the design of the game. Even so virtually every LFG inexplicably demands levels and issues threats to anyone applying below the stated values so you should have plenty of company if you look around more.

  • I'll play devils advocate here and say that Piracy wasn't fair. The whole point of being a pirate was victory by overwhelming force. They didn't rob naval ships stocked with armed and trained soldiers, They robbed merchants that were unarmed. This is why merchants would hire privateers to defend them.

Very true in reality, but I shall devil's advocate you in return. - no successful game model to date has ever been built on the premise that half the player base must be fodder for the fire. take any game, lets say halo for example, and remove all rank segregation. now fast forward a year - the player base will have significantly shrunk, growth will be slim to none, and the remaining players will be the elite of the elite, because you HAVE to be in order to enjoy yourself.. This is why games segregate players. Keep it challenging and fun, for all players, of all skill

  • @brio-brumm Im sorry man, there seems to be an influx of new players at this point. I meet so many new people almost every day now. When i used to meet more experienced players, that experience is almost gone.....

Get on discord and the official channels, or add me @OHjeey or @mrohjeey(i own both accounts, but started buying games on the mr one, kinda regret that), i dont know how much you have played the game, but as long as you are in the EU and i dont have to worry about latency, i will group with anyone. Xbox or PC, new or experienced. I will willingly share everything i have learned and know about the game so far. What strategies work often, now and then, or almost never. And the few things or, ONE THING that is extremely important. Having someone or yourself check the horizon every few minutes. A galleon that has the wind helping it, is actually extremely fast, and will come from out of distance to royaly screwing you in a few minutes.

But im here man, i will duo and join a group, doesnt matter the experience. As long as people do things on the ship between island's, and on an island. I have had crews where i am steering, angling and lowering sails and taking out islands on my own. I do not stay in those crews anymore. Even if just one guy is afking i will try to convince the others to set up a new crew or i will join a new one.

Thanks for reading, love you all, even the griefers. You all make the game worth the effort. And that requires threats. There should be more though. Like different threats i mean. Everything is a "job" at this point really. But i still love the game and will keep on playing.

  • @a-trusty-mango true many privateers did become Pirates but not necessarily all privateers.
