Crossplay is killing this game for my group.
3x today we came across god-mode using cheaters.
We recorded the last 2. We point blank shot 1 of them 7x between 3 of us and he 1 shot killed us all with a pistol.
While this was going on somehow his crew mate was sitting there typing racial slurs in place of the default text replies.
This is becoming more and more frequent and completely kills the experience for those who don't stoop to pathetic cheating.
There is zero benefit to crossplay.

anybody 1 shotting you with a pistol that does 55% damage cannot, so provide proof, cause i'm pretty sure you're full of it.
I hit legend last week, pretty sure i have a few hundred hours in this game, and have not met an outright cheater. Couple of laggy people for sure, couple of good players for sure, cheater? Don't think so, and you say you met 3 in one day? Math says no
Hackers ruin games for everyone. It does not matter which system you choose to play on.
In my many hours of playtime, I have come across 1 or 2 people which seem suspect but I am not sure they were cheating as lag plays a large factor in this game.
For example, I am in th UK and sometimes go out in a sloop with a friend down under. When we play the ping between us is just awful and if we end up in a pvp battle, my shots don't even register most of the time so we always loose. I know the people we are fighting are not cheating. It is simple because by the time my shot has registered with the server, they are elsewhere.
@colonel-hans why no link to this video? ive put quite a few hours into this game and have yet to come across anyone i felt was hacking on the other hand i've quite frequently been called a hacker when simply outplaying a crew so it seems to me this post is leaning towards the old "he beat me he must be hacking!"
@colonel-hans Hackers are on both sides of the fence and (if they are about) they ruin it for PC users just as much as Xbox users.

@colonel-hans Console here as well, and I've had the same issue, several times. Blunder point blank to the chest should be a kill shot.
@nefrit-od its not hacks its rare have different values between xbox and pc players even on the rewards xbox get to what pc get im 47 gold hoarding im on xbox i hand in a capt chest and rep bearly moves but friend was live on mixer he handed same chest in at same level and you can clearly see he got 3 times the rep.Rare need to compare the values together of both the xbox and pc on all aspects but they dont seem to care!

The servers are so laggy that it could be lag as well...
We met 3 guys yesterday, we had to shoot them 4 times with the plunder melee while they only had to shoot us once.
So obviously we were blaming it on the cheat rather than the skill, but it was most certainly server lag.... You know... Because the servers are broken and though the game feels like it's not laggy, you are never bellow 70ms.

edit: ofc there are cheaters, like in every game. But its not so often liek you think its just a easy way to not see the reality. The reality is you have to get better.
Almost legend and I PvP whenever possible and have never once ran across someone I think is a hacker. Typical modern day gamer view and official forum crying though if you get beaten by someone they are a HACKER Q_Q OMFG! Especially all the console players that just assume EVERYONE is either on P.C or is a hacker and they are at a massively "unfair" advantage due to said assumption.
People not taking damage is due to the game detection, not hacks. There's a hit detection issue with the weapons doing zero damage. I've gone against people I know 100% are legitimate hitting them and they take NO damage. There's no such thing as GOD mode hacks. Just do a simple google search on the (hacks) that are available for this game and you'll see how stupid all these god mode posts are. This isn't even a hackers type of game they prefer the ability to cause mass carnage and chaos with games like Division, Call of Duty, Battlefield, and etc..
No one has magic repair ship to full status or banana, cannon, plank reload to full stacks, cannon aimbots, and etc..
Some of the ignorance on the forums coming from people about cheaters/hacks is just laughable and personally, it's getting so toxic that even in the game anytime you kill someone they scream HACKER OMFG Q_Q HACKS!

How do I know all this? Used to be an admin for TWL/CAL matches back in the day watching scrims for suspicious behavior and years of owning my own servers in CSS, BF1942, CoD2, and other oldschool FPS games.
But yes once again game has a serious hit detection issue in which bullets do ZERO damage it's not a hacker it's an issue with the guns. You'll get a hit registration and the bullet did zero damage which is a server side detection issue not a hack. We tested it with another group and Rare definitely needs to investigate why bullets aren't doing damage at random times.
I'd say 3/5 of your shots will do damage and 2 wont that's about the regular.
Next time you hit someone and you're guaranteed you hit them be like "DID I HIT YOU DUDE??" And they will respond with no learn to aim! And then you'll know I speak the truth that bullets have a problem.

What has cheating to do with crossplay? I'm on PC, and I hate cheaters just like you do. Rare should have a good anti-cheat system, but that goes for both plattforms. U can hack a game on xbox just like you can on pc. Maybe its easier on PC, but anyway, stop this (Mod Edit) crossplay-(Mod Edit).
U knew there was crossplay in the game, and (at least I knew) that aiming with mouse and keyboard is far more powerful than with a controller. Until now, my xbox friends wouldn't believe me this, but hey... they learned the hard way...

Most of the people crying about cheats have no idea how cheats even work. God mode, invincible ships, teleports, speed boosts, cannon/plank/banana reload, and etc... It doesn't exist the game merely has the stereotypical ESP/Aimbot hacks which the aimbot isn't gonna do much for anyone cause there's no bonus modifiers to headshots and hitting people in this game is pretty ez anyways. Hacks also don't work for cannons same as they've never worked for turrets, vehicles, or any other stationary object in any game dating back to the beginning of hacks.
So if anything the only advantage a hacker has is knowing WHERE you are due to a bounding box. But even that's meh cause you have a big white name above your head most of the time if within visible range/distance.

@sir-rhavi well I met a legend yesterday that I shot and sword struck....he started to turn into the green ghost when he turned and 1 shotted me. He wasnt in the ferry to meet me....he was busy sending the rest of my crew to join me.

@avecrux Although posting links to obtain cheats is against forum policy, I can't see how this is.
Rare could use this to at least locate the other crew members in the video, check their details to see if they too cheated. Whether they did or did not do the same they could be reprimanded if they don't disclose the offender(s) who did cheat.

They do exist. I've run into one guy who was invincible. He was standing still, waving and clapping, took 10 point blank blunderbuss shots and at least 30 hits with the cutlass, before he killed us.
BUT this happened to me ONCE, and I've been playing this game a lot. (I'm lvl 43-41-42)
Video evidence exists, it was 4 days ago, and the replay of my stream is still up on twitch.tv
But i wasn't actually concerned enough to clip it and send it to rare, because i'm lazy, and since it was a one-time experience, i just went to another server and continued playing.
So saying that this game is 'overrun' by cheaters is just ridiculous.
But of course cheating should be adressed by Rare.
As usual, this forum is full of vitriol.
As I said, we recorded and reported it. It was a clear hack....not lag, not poor hit detection, etc.
He stood still and LET us shoot him while laughing about it in game chat. It wasn't combat. It was 3 of us shooting an idle target POINT BLANK with blunderbuss's and a few assorted sword swings. Nobody missed. We all had hit markers...which at that range we COULDN'T miss.
He not once ate a banana, and 1 shot all of us with a pistol.
I don't make hackusations lightly. I'd be the first to admit when I was bested by a more skilled individual.....this was not one of those times. As I said, we all recorded it and reported it to both Rare support and Microsoft.
What does crossplay have to do with this? I guess I have to simplify it for you slower folks.
No crossplay = no hackers on console.
All crossplay does is gives hacking cheaters access to console servers, thus ruining console players experience. As I stated the appeal of consoles is that they are hacker-free. Crossplay ruins that.
Theres no downside to making it optional. "It divides the community" as an excuse to defend it is completely invalid. You already don't know what system other players you encounter are on. Nothing would change if crossplay were disabled, save for denying the occasional hacker the ability to hinder console player experience.
This being said, a hacker encounter is rare and I still love the game. But all it takes is encounters like this to degrade that opinion and if it continues, will ruin the game for a lot of people.

@shrek-t-t I'm not entirely certain but is the rep you get for a chest not linked into the amount of gold you get for it which varies greatly sometimes
