Skull fort key missing

  • Just spent 3 hours fighting 3 4 man crew and a sloop . We ditched our ship took out the skull captain and sent one guy to bring the ship back ... I set the key down in a rock I think I was crow nest fort and as soon as I dropped it to hide it... it dissapeared .. gone !! So not only did I waste my crews time I wasted everyone's time !! .. I think if your going to have something that important to fight over that it should have a default reset place if dissapeared or away for said period of time ... I have proof to I took a video on my Xbox 1

  • @masterjediob This just happened to me yesterday.
I was looking for a spot to hide the key on the skull fort as the sloop we sunk was coming back for round 3.
    Unfortunately I couldn't find a great place..
so i thought a rock by the edge of the water was perfect as it was dark and on the opposite side as our ship. I put it down and immediately the key disappeared. After further inspection of the area it fell through the rock I swam under the rock where my char then got stuck and auto spawned me on the ship. (I'll post this video when I get home) this needs to be solved at some point. Until then you cant set skull key on rocks surrounding the fort..

  • If I have to resort to this sort of tactic, I conduct myself a bit differently. For fear of exactly what you are remarking.

For one, I cannot be sure of 2 things regarding skeleton keys. 1 How long before they 'despawn' under normal circumstances. and 2, how quickly another crew will find them if I hide them, leave, and return.

So you seem to have encountered some sort of 'glitch' perhaps? I don't see why a key would simply "disappear' before your very eyes. But stranger things...

I solve this my selecting a crew mate to grab hold of the key and "NEVER LET GO".

Then I drop that crew mate off on some larger island nearby, but attempt to do so in-obviously. Then we sail back, or to an outpost, situation dependent. Wait a few minutes to assure we're "clear", sink whoever we must, and conduct ourselves as such again until we feel 'safe' from threat.

    THEN

Then we go pick our mate(s) up, sometimes leaving them with another crew member or even two if we're uncertain they will remain safe alone, and go claim our treasure.

I've encountered one moment where we left a solo crew member on an island with the key and they died. But not before dropping the key behind a large series of rocks.

We worried if it might have 'despawned' or been stolen. It took us some time to get to the island (Thanks to a storm) and c****y winds. But once we arrived it was still present and we got our loot.

So, that said I can't really see why this occurred obviously a bug.

    Moral of the story... never....drop...items!
