Cost of future DLC's / Updates

  • Nice, I just ended my 15 days free playing this game and I must say it's perfect but the actual price is a bit high but like all games, but what I want to know is is I gonna have to pay more or not.

70€ For a game with future free updates = I buy it for sure.

70€ for a low game and more €€€ for future updates = For sure I won't buy.

  • @pvdiego91 future updates are all free

  • @pvdiego91 Any major game updates are supposed to be free. But that doesn't mean everything will be free. For example, the next "update" will include pets that you will need to pay real money for.

  • @pvdiego91 Atention! in gamepass you don't have crashes, but in other style accounts you can crash every 20min ...

  • @lastcall4lunch sagte in Cost of future DLC's / Updates:

Partly they will be free, but there wil be microtransactions that of course will only provide cosmetical changes (that's what the guys from Rare said). So there shouldn't be Pay2Win mechanics involved, but you can stuff more money into the game, if you want.

So you can look at this planned payment methods as more of a fair game then in Elder Scrolls Online or GTA Online.

why is that what you buy? xbox or pc retail or microsoft store?

  • @cattaleyaathena In Pc

  • @pvdiego91 The content updates are meant to be free they are adding a Micro transaction store in the first patch the idea is this will support the game financially going forward.

I still think the base price of the game is abit steap tho so might want to wait till June when the first content update hits and the game will be most likely be cheaper or on sale to try and bring back players into the game.

  • I would be kind of upset if they charged for extra content at this point. Especially since I opt'd to buy rather than use the gamepass. Now if they prove themselves with regular updates for several months I might be willing to buy an expansion or something long those lines. Definitely not right now.

  • My understanding is content will always be free but there will be purchasable cosmetics. Much how games like Overwatchh, Rocket League, etc do it. Changes and additions to map and gameplay will be free but things to gussie yourself and your ship up can cost money.

  • I once listened to the community when they told everyone, the map would be bigger after release and the content of the beta is only 10-25%... RARE did nothing to stop these rumours and after release I felt scammed because all of this was hyped nonsense...
Do not listen to the forum. Ask for proof from RARE.
Post a link to RAREs statement or whatever. Otherwise you'll feel scammed, when the dlcs will cost money... and I bet the developers will push the real good cosmetic things to come to the shop (microtransactions).

  • All Expansions will be provided Free., however Micro-Transactions (well we'll see how "Micro" they are) for select Non-Essential Cosmetics... such-as Pets.
(at present a Cat and Monkey have been confirmed)

As it stands, Expansions are intended to release every 3 Months with new Cosmetics, Features, etc. with Weekly Updates that provide Fixes, Minor Content Updates, etc. provided on an on-going basis.

Sea of Thieves will almost certainly end up as a Permanent ("Killer App") for Game Pass.
This would make a lot of sense, as this provides Consumers with the choice between a Subscription or Retail.

Now a lot of this actually factors in with Microsoft' shift from "Generational" to "Tier Iterations" … it's a concept that was knocked around during the Xbox 360 Era, but under previous Microsoft Management just was never going to happen.

The idea is somewhat simple., basically to echo the PC Market., where you have 3 Tiers of "Gaming" Computer.
Low / Medium / High... or more specifically Minimum, Recommended and Ultimate.

At present this is the Xbox One, Xbox One S and Xbox One X.
I'm not sure how they're going to be handling the naming convention., but it would make sense if they break them down "Generationally" … so say:
    Xbox 2-Series (Xbox Two [2020], Xbox Two S [2022] and Xbox Two X [2024]).

This would make the most sense., with each Generation giving them the chance to swap out the Internal Hardware... but within said Generation they all use the same Hardware just more powerful versions.
We can almost guarantee at this point they'll be using AMD Ryzen, Navi and HBM Hardware along with Windows (10) Core,. due out in 2019; but is effectively just Windows 10 without any Win32 Support.

This might not make sense, but remember it's easier to say "Supports Console X, Y, Z" as opposed to "Well it should run on Hardware X, Y, Z or Equivalent" when this isn't always the case.
So Console Gaming is just far less headaches, confusion and difficulty... something that doesn't even come at a Premium., typically unless your building a Custom Rig (and heck even if you are right now) … you can't Match a Console in Performance, Capabilities and Price.
ONE of those always has to be sacrificed, and with OEM (Pre-Built) Gaming PCs that's ALWAYS Price.

Consoles will always have a place., even if it ultimately becomes a Branded PC (akin to Amiga / Atari back in the day) because of their Plug-and-Play Nature and focus on User Experience as opposed to Technical Prowess.

If Microsoft actually follow through with this, or it just becomes a curious experience of the 2010s … who knows; but personally I'm looking forward to such an idea being allowed to blossom., along with Games like Sea of Thieves being Showcase Pieces that Evolve along with the Consoles and their Gamers.

  • @pilks4k From my understanding of something I recall being mentioned a while back in one of their videos (my memory is rather poor so take this with a handful of salt) is that apparently it would have a type of premium currency that would be able to be earned in-game as well as purchasing it. It might've just been an idea or a concept, who knows. Frankly if it is as such with that availability in-game to be earned, that could be a form of incentive for players to grind more.

  • @pvdiego91 what future? lol at this rate Sea of Thieves is dead by when Overwatch releases their next PvE event.

  • @sargent-sully They mentioned a premium currency that you would purchase to use in the MTA store but I don't remember them ever saying there would be a way to earn it in game and this is Microsoft so I wouldn't get my hopes up.

  • @pilks4k Fair enough, but there is always an ounce of (probably wasted) hope.

  • @lastcall4lunch except for the cosmetics that are the only progression. They better not put em all in MTs.

games got major defects and grieffing problems all tied to one another from brig to match making to queue system to ship access are we not entitled to galleons for a $100 purchase? personally this games not something I would recommend never have never will even before its inception

  • I wouldn't mind paying $20-$30 every 4-6 months for more constant DLC to drop that includes much more content. I just got the game 1 week ago and I am loving it so far. The game has huge potential but still lacks so much for it to be considered perfect IMO, but I don't think that free DLC is going to achieve that anytime soon.

These is the content I would add to the game in future DLC:

    1. bring more customization to ships

    2. be able to create your own custom flags

    3. face paint/ hair color customization

    4. pets that include parrots, monkeys, cats, etc...

    5. full on cooking and food gathering system similar to Breath of The Wild.

    6. be able to see the amount of time spent in game.

    7. Create different islands with different biomes (desert islands, islands with snow, thicker jungles etc...)

    8. Create a central hub for the players to come together and make new pirate friends, play mini games together, embark in different mission.

    9. the social hub can be placed in a newly built town that can simulate a port from Jamaica/Cuba/Haiti from back in the day so it would be a much bigger piece of land. This town would have a robust economy with a marketplace, different vendors, other financial & political interests(Spanish/British/Portuguese monarchy) offering unique missions like exploring new lands.

    10. The marketplace can bring about many more different types of fruits and vegetables that can be found throughout the land, and special mission can be chosen to deliver these goods to the merchants.

    11. Increasing the amount of NPC that are spread out throughout the lands. This can include bringing in different Indian tribes that can be found in specific islands and you have to fight them off to get their gold or to trade unique items with them.

    12. Add many more different types of Bosses like Giant Crab Boss, or a fleet of mermaids that try to attack your ships as you dock on an island.

    13. adding many more types of outfits and and accessories is also welcome.

    14. adding fishing to the game and creating a rewards system for hunting down specific/exotic types of fish.

    15. adding different kinds of animals in the wild aside from chickens, pigs, and snakes.

    16. I think the battle system can be a bit clunky sometimes and has room to improve.

    17. adding different types of weapons that fit the theme.
