I dont know if I can last 3 months

  • With the reveal of what Pirate Legend actually opens up it's been shown that this game really is just a bare bones demo of what could be a fantastic game.

For those that defend the game on all it's merits, I'm glad you enjoy the game. I really am. I enjoy the game too, but I've experienced pretty much all I can with Sea of Thieves.

My friends and I have had some pretty epic adventures, but now we're growing bored of the experience. We've explored every inch of every island, even several not charted on the map. We've battled enemy players in every way we can think to fight them on both land and at sea. We've got the sailing down to a science, to the point we can always catch our target or escape our persuer.

There's no more left for us to do. I want to keep enjoying this game. The world is so vast and beautiful, but it's also very, very empty.

Because there is so little to actually do I honestly don't know if I'll still have any interest in this game when the "content drop" comes in 3 months. Given what Pirate Legend has shown us about "more content" I wouldn't be surprised if we just got more fetch quests in June.

  • @subaqueousreach What do you mean? Aren't you just TOTALLY excited that the quests when you hit pirate legend are basically the same?

  • @subaqueousreach

    Understandable, my dude.

If you're feeling burnt out, take a break. Games are supposed to be fun and if one's not doin' it for ya, switch to another.

Sea of Thieves will be here when you feel like trying it out again, and maybe there'll be enough new content to hold your interest longer. That's the nice thing about no stat progression; whenever you want to jump back in a quick refresher voyage is all you need to get back into the swing of things.

    Peace, bro.

    Hey matey,

    Two things:

    1. Pirate Legend quests isn't really "more content" since it was designed before the release
    2. You don't need to keep playing for three months in a row, it's not the purpose of this game

Just play when you feel like you want to hit the sea. A game like this one is made to be played when you want to have fun with friends more than anything. That's one of the reasons there is no stats/gear progression.

Think of it like Mario Party for example: you will probably enjoy it more if you have a good fun with friends from times to times than playing it solo over and over again until you win every minigame.

And keep an eye on the game to play it when there will be events and updates that might interest you, because there will be often when they'll have less issues with the servers and bugs, since it is their top priority for now.

  • @thejolirouge except there isn't 60 bux worth of content In the game. Relying on friends for content means the main game sucks. Things with friends should be the icing. Long story short if the only thing getting the most praise is the water there is an issue.

  • @thejolirouge Look, a few months down the road if I want to have fun with my friends, we'll jump into a game of Diablo 3, Borderlands 2, Battlefield 1, World of Warcraft, Overwatch, Far Cry 5, State of Decay 2.

We're definitely not going to come back just for a few more skins and one or two more stupid repetitive factions to grind mindlessly for.

  • Yeah @TalonWren

70 euros pre-order, I feel like I got into a kickstarter that's just finished its alpha stage.
It's cool, but from now on I know what to expect from Rare, and Microsoft especially.

Rushed projects, and in this case a great beta of a game that leaves a bittersweet aftertaste for all the hype it generated.

  • @TalonWren Meaning that every board/tabletop game sucks because it's designed to be played with friends. Video games can be designed that way too, there is fortunately no rule on what a game should be.

@Neller2000 Ok. I'm happy for you, but I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything yet. I was just giving an advice on the fact of playing it continously while waiting for more.

If you don't want to play it, don't play it. To tell the truth, I'm quite surprised — and amused I must say — by the fact that a lot of you all who already lost hope on the game are also loosing so much of your time on these forums instead of doing, well, anything else, actually.

  • @thejolirouge

The thing is I'm playing this alongside Monster Hunter World. A game I have already sunk over a hundred hours into and I'm still finding ways to enjoy it.

If Sea of Thieves were a $20 title I'd have much smaller expectations and would probably even be satisfied with what we already have. But I paid $89.90 (CAD) for it. Nearly a hundred dollars for what was stated to be Rare's "most ambitious title yet". But it feels incredibly lacking on all fronts, not even just content. There's no real substance to this game.

I understand the idea of just hopping on and goofing off in the "sandbox", but if that's all this game is then I certainly did not get my money's worth. Terraria is a sandbox game. I bought multiple copies of that ($15 each) for my friends and brothers so we could all play. I've sunk over a thousand hours into that game and again I can still hop onto that and find new ways to have loads of fun.

What Sea of Thieves offers simply isn't enough to justify the pricepoint.

  • I'm still laughing when I think about what "Pirate Legend" unlocks. I think it is the very first time I want to use the word "b******t" when thinking about a game. ^^'

I'm amused at people who always bring up the "if you're not playing why are you posting" whine. If the game is SOO amazing, why are YOU not playing it?

This game was a rushed pile of trash.

Ahahahaha! But yes, wow. I told my friends on day 3 I'll bet the content is exactly the same. They didn't even stay long enough to see it happen.

  • @neller2000 I said the exact same thing to my own friends. It's crazy RARE was so lazy for that part of the game.
You won't see me complain a lot about the game, it has its flaws but I love it. It's just that this Pirate Legend thing is such a joke I can't believe it. x_x

This reminds me of grinding through the campaign of The Division, only to discover the "end content" was repeatedly farming The Dark Zone over and over and over and over.....

  • @subaqueousreach I know, and I understand that. Still, I don't think this is making any difference. The price is not something calculated on the base of the content or the gameplay lifetime, nor a promise, and assuming that right now will avoid you many disappointments. I guess you've probably already paid at least once for AAA games as expensive as this one for something like 8-10 hours of gameplay, because all the side content was just pointless - like some Devil May Cry, Assassin's Creed or Modern Warfare episodes for example... don't you?

@Neller2000 Once again, I'm happy for you. You're having plans for next months, you're amused, you interpret my words, you like to intervene to talk about yourself... Looks like a lot of great things are happening for you. Enjoy.

  • Hopefully you had a game pass trial. I'll likely stick around on the forums for a bit after my trial runs out. But I think I'll return my copy, pick it up later when when game is cheaper and has more content. Or just sub to game pass again.

I think what it really comes down to is these GAAS games nowadays, are structured to have reactive development based on reception. They build a framework title. Then finish out the content over the next year or two years (or longer) depending on sales/reactions. It's certainly safer from an investment standpoint. But it also means players are expected to effectively fund and play through a barebones title, while it's finishing off. And if they don't buy it, then the studio will likely just cancel further work or reduce down to a skeleton crew. The best option for players is usually to wait for that year one/two definitive Edition.

  • @thejolirouge did you just compare this game to assasins creed and devil may cry? thats the dumbest thing ev ever heard! iv sunk 100 ish hours into assasinscreed origins.. it has a world larger than this game. full of content and story and beautifull visuals. and devil may cry is a g******n classic with millions of fans.

dont drag this bare b***d sailing sim into the same sentense as those games.

look at you grasping for straws..

  • @politeohio81 said...

No. I wrote "some Devil May Cry/Assassin's Creed episodes", without mentioning one in particular, and also added "for example". I was basically talking about expensive games you don't play much more than the basic content but it's a different experience for everyone. So obviously if you take the ones you've played hundred of hours, it don't fit this case.

  • @thejolirouge you're right. Price isn't a guarantee that a game will be good. That's what the marketing department's job is. To tell me what the game has that I will enjoy.

And during the beta I very much did enjoy it. I was excited at the promise that the beta was only 20% of the content that would be available at launch (stated by the devs themselves in multiple interviews). But that was a lie. The game is still very much just the beta with some small variations on the fetch quests.

Microsoft made this one of their flagship titles for 2018, Rare proclaimed it their most ambitious game to date. But I just don't see it. The ambition just isn't there in any tangible form except for maybe the high quality water.

Rare has also promised to be transparent, but they won't even mention the idea of what might be coming to the game to relieve players like myself of their concerns about the game.

I'm very interested in this one. I heard that many times. Even now, people are pointing it out, but no one can say where it comes from. If you do, I would be happy to know. In any case, I've read some interviews before the release and I didn't crossed this information. From my point of view, it's more a rumor than a fact.

About the rest, well, I won't bother you with the usual speech. I, personally, like how the game is right now because I can imagine what can be builded on this base. Actually, I think I like it more than if Rare decided by themself what the content should be.

For example — sorry for getting a bit off-topic here — I have a very clear idea of how I do imagine dungeons could work (here, if you are interested) and I'm actually trying to turn it into a creative feedback to catch Rare's attention, just enough to give them a memorable picture of it.

That's how they said they want the game to grow, which is kinda bold, but really exciting if they manage to do it. It could change the way games are made, the same way that user-centered design shaked the webdesign several years ago, even though most of the world's digital companies didn't wanted to involve money in it until Apple and Google show them the way. Now, they all have UI and UX designers.

  • @thejolirouge they stated it in their dev talks a few times. I dont have the desire to watch through hours of footage to find it though.

I agree they have a great foundation and that SoT has the potential to be a fantastic game, but I had thought they would have had even a little bit more prepared after all the feedback they received from the alpha and beta amd scale tests.

I honestly just want to see some kind of road map or something that shows us they do actually know what they're doing or if we're all just throwing ideas back and forth in some kind of vain hope that Rare might be listening.

First point. It's ironic that you use board games as some of the board games I play (Arkham, etc) has more lore in their encounter decks than this whole game lol. Also horrible analogy as we are talking about apples to oranges and what
    Is advertised. But I digress.

Second point, some of us are still here because we hold onto a hope that maybe with the upcoming roadmap that should happen they will explain the future of the game. But to flip this argument around back on to you, how is it harming you that we are hopping for a much more vibrant game, is that going to diminish what you already enjoy? No? Ok then. You should be routing for us, not praising anti consumer practices such as settling for mediocrity when this doesn't fulfill 60 bux of content.

  • @subaqueousreach yea i hear ya mate.

I just started up the 14 day Xbox game pass trial and then used the promo to play the game for free. My day off and it's all I did today.

Oh man. It is beautiful and really there is a lot of potential but man oh man, it really is bare bones. There is no meat to this game at all. With a DLC cash shop pet in the works as their next release, things don't look so good.

I barely played one day and I am bored to death. Yea the multiplayer is all where the game is at but that fun wears off fast. The combat and player movement is just so bland. I would expect maybe some huffing and puffing when you are running...well there really is no running but you know something to give your character more substance.

And btw, this is NOT a sandbox game. Maybe a F2P but not sandbox. There is just not enough outlets for creativity. Waiting for multiplayer action to happen is not enough. Maybe constructing forts, building defenses, underwater gameplay or hey even just plain ole fishing...this game could be so much more.

I really hope Rare devs are listening but it does not seem like they are. Players were asking for a PvP penalty such as moving respawns further off or having no ammo but Rares response was to give a PvE death tax penalty. They totally missed the mark on that. Sure they did not go through with it but that is just an example of how disconnected the devs are from the players.

Good luck to you guys and gals that paid full price. Hopefully the game will get better. But by then the game will definitely be on the discount shelf. Maybe it's worth it some but no way, not for me and not at $60.

Have fun and best of luck, you guys will need it.
