@RARE: A Death Tax is really stupid. It should be a Kill Tax.

  • @uvg-reign In all the videos Rare has released...a big part of it was the social aspect and possibility of community building. If thats not for you, then maybe rares vision for this game is also not for you? I am not saying that at you...just saying this is what rare has been telling us for a while. Its a social game with danger and adventure.

  • @senilegold I do think both taxes are stupid too. But this is my rebuttal to their death tax. I support your Bosun Tea Party movement as well.

  • Perhaps this is something that was suggested on an earlier build, but what about neutral NPCs that engage with other players who initiate PVP on outpost islands? Sort of like city guards in an MMO like World of Warcraft (specifically Booty Bay for those that played)? Could help with reducing the amount of camping by serving as a distraction, and perhaps offer an additional reward for defeating those NPCs?

  • @jolber I think that goes against the no safezone policy. Its something I used to support but changed my mind after seeing the variety of options we already have to make trading in relatively safe.

  • I think the OP actually has the right idea. IF they are going to tax something, it shouldn't be death (and really shouldn't be taxing anything at all), but taxing something that is illegal in the real world seems like a good alternative to the authorities hunting you down and killing you which this game doesn't have.

  • @solysdayga I'm not suggesting they make it a safe zone, but there should be some risk involved with catching an unassuming solo player off-guard as they try to hand in their chest on the outpost. The system should ABSOLUTELY allow for engagement within all corners of the map, and allow for the opportunity to steal someone's chest even on an outpost, but there should be a system in place to discourage griefers with an unfair advantage. Thematically: think of it as a pirate picking a fight in a tavern... you'd expect the rest of the tavern to then pick up arms as it escalates to a full on brawl. Create a slightly more challenging scenario for the player engaging in PVP than BOOM HEADSHOT 2 meters before the merchant.

  • This tax will stop stupid solo players just parking up at outposts and getting smashed like noobs they will need to think before whining and posting. As for pvp crews it will change nothing we get gold with little if any risk.

    This game isn't even a week old. You are blaming new players for being victims of bullies? If you want to make this game fail, make it miserable for people who don't live and interact only with other e-trolls. Sounds like a suicidal community model.

  • Mate solo players jumping on forums after being outplayed in game and effectively trying shout out the rest of us are the bullies here.

  • No tax on killing or death, both are ridiculous.

    Maybe a rep meter/fame/title could work so you know if the person chasing you is a stone cold killer or someone who is likely to want to join up.

    Id like to put forward a few things.....

    I find it is crazy that the game is only 9GB at launch... This gives me an immense feeling that the rest of the game (the other 45GB or so, which usual games are) is going to be locked behind dlc downloads... this will kill the game.

    We need bigger crews! (8 player boats!)

    FISHING!!! ( pirate game without fishing?!?!?!)

    We need to achknowledge we have killed someone!

    We need enemy NPC boats sailing and units on empty islands!!!!

    More varity of quests, maybe a sea hunting one where we have to hunt whales for meat or sharks for teeth??

    Fortnite has set some high expectations for games now. They are rolling out free updates weekly and patching whilst doing it. The game is free so i think the gaming community feels as if this is the way forward for games especially ones you pay for. I think the rare team needs to follow this example otherwise i can see the player base dropping dramatically in the next few months (dont say i didnt warn you! xD)

    I have heard you will be listening to the community suggestions so i hope you guys hear me out because im sure im not the only one. The game is great but the examples above will greatly improve the game!

  • @solysdayga yeah i have an fort encounter yesterday where galleon and sloop came like 7 times and we killed them multiple times. I would be broke because they want to take mine treasure :D??

  • @solysdayga We get Attacked often and Kill them they spawn and try to fight us again and we win....so should I be punished for beeing a good defender?

  • @solysdayga My only thing to add to this is that my young daughter (6 years old) loves this game for one reason. She wants to make more money to buy more of the gear. She can totally hang with the PVP, but I know if you ask a 6 year old if losing money when dying is "fun" they would unequivocally say no. To her, and the other young kids that have played this game, the whole point is to have fun..

    Same here I didn't know. Also I need to voice another concern, to Rare. Last night when I was playing the game int U.S. Standerd time, I put in a bunch of skulls and chests and didn't get my level with the companies to go up or get paid. The only thing that popped up was the "_____ Sold" icon.

  • -REP worst idea ever known to man. Didn't know death tax was a thing will take into consideration.

  • A killer tax would take away from the PvP aspect, which is the most fun part of this game. A death tax will make those getting spawn camped feel as though the game is punishing them for something that isn’t their fault alltogether. There should be no tax for death, and if there is, it should only be for certain circumstances (e.g. death by skeleton).

  • A Kill tax is a Good idea - and it could be increasingly cumulative if you continue to Grief someone...
    Say Start at 10g for Killing someone - nothing that over major, because you can loot chests if they have them...
    But if they come back and it's been say within 10 minutes, it goes up to 100g, then 1000g... If they don't have the money to pay the fee, then they get a Permanent Bounty on their head or something... or perhaps time in their own Brig - forced on them that can't be voted to release.

  • For PvP there shouldn't be a tax. If your ship goes down you should spawn on the other side of the map. Instead of taxing players gold tax their time. If a group of trolls kills you, you end up on the safer side of the map. If you kill a group of trolls they end up on the other side of the map, so they have to spend a large amount of time making their way back if they want to continue trolling.

  • Scratch that b******t, maybe make it that Player-based deaths only have a tax, but f**k the kill tax. What kind of b******t is that?
