Offers in-app purchases? This wasn't there when I preordered.

  • @deako-one Ya' think?

  • I am baffled by the pay to win sentiment over cosmetics....its a cosmetic that changes nothing?! Has the phrase pay to win lost all meaning? Pay to win is buying an advantage. Last time I checked a red pirate had offered me no advantage other than questionable style.

Itll be cosmetics only and if its anything else like X amount for the fastest ship in the game then players will kick up a storm like they did with EA. I only care when MT either offer an actual advantage, they limit my gameplay or they just bombard me everywhere I turn.

The stuff you can buy will be likely the kind of stuff you get out of the preorder or buying the L.E controller. Full set skins.

  • Some of you really need to get over yourselves.

    "Votin with muh wallet"

Please... your base game purchase is squat these days. Paying once for a title that wants to last years, as well as continue to provide you content, and still have the audacity to complain when other people buying the OPTIONAL COSMETIC purchases are helping to keep it going for you.

Keep sitting there being entitled, feeling like the industry owes you anything. Keep sitting there acting like your "flat rate" game purchase is more than it actually is when servers need upkeep, future (free, mind you) content needs paid employees working on it, and that open ended continuous games these days don't get with the people who think their 60 bucks will take anything years into the future.

Let's be honest, if optional cosmetic purchases are this big of a deal, these "vote with your wallet/mtx is wrong" types aren't likely to be around long anyway, there's always new shinier games to move on to and "vote" for when don't like something. Long term is definitely not something they care about or even consider.

How is spending £50-60 on a game being entitled? Entitled would be getting the game for free then boycotting for having paid cosmetics. Also other countries are having to spend about £80 in Europe. Thats alot of money considering, and i dont think its audacious to want the content to be in the game instead of having to fork out even more money if there is an outfit you like. Especially when other developers withhold the "Nicer" content and slap a price tag on it. Would be diffrent if the game was like fortnite and then had purchasable cosmetic due to it being free.

And considering Rare is owned by a multi billion pound company i dont think the poor little hard done by indie developer cuts it in my opinion. Its all about just trying to maximise profit margins and make shareholders happy. The game could easily be run for many years without microtransactions and isnt that also the reason they have shed tonnes of merch in there store aswell. Server costs ect is also he reason game prices have jumped in the last few years from around £40 to £50 and now £60.

Microtransactions are still relatively new in the games industry and games managed to keep servers running long before that, way before gaming was popular. Now its a billion dollar industry and its just become more of a free for all of who can rinse there consumers for the most before the next big game comes out.

So i dont personally think its necessary or essential for them to be in.

The only way i personally will be remotely content with them in SoT is if they do an Overwatch method where you can still earn them in game and have to grind for them. That i can deal with.

  • @knifelife agreed, though a WoW style approach with the coolest stuff being earned in game and all the people with money can buy a semi cool but also semi lame because we know it was bought, hat or whatever. I honestly would pay a sub if the game was on the scale of content and was more an mmo in aspects like population and player economy, and sandbox interaction and variables and sidegrade customization instead of leveling proggression (as we all know) point is they will need more than just the profit from the orignal sale if the game is to have this level of care given to it for years to come. I agree that the clothing and other items in the store and the controller and hardrive are a good fit for this game, add some sensible microtransactions as long as the negatives of buying cosmetics in a game that has only cosmetic progression, dosnt outweigh the content production reward these extra sales permit.

They absolutely cannot sell gold like Gta or other games, or its all downhill from there. We'll end up with Flying cars and motorcycles and lock on rocket launchers locked behind a pointless leveling system that only serves to keep the new players down.

  • WHOH.. This thread got large!! But to set things aside for a moment...

"I support the company, the dev team and the game. Everyone knows my stance. It's usually with a slight wobble from my wooden peg and a crackle of my teeth."

  • So long as its like the minecraft store where you can buy credits/gold or just pay straight up for what you want im fine. Lootboxes are just a waste of cash and a gamble and grinding for one specific thing can make you go from playing and enjoying said game to playing and wanting to just go play something else from sheer boredom and constantly getting pointless duplicate items.

yea but cosmetics are the only reward in this game. Selling the only reward is bad. And why will people keep playing after buying their favorite cosmetic rewards with real $

Im not playing for silly skins and paint schems to begin with and im betting a large amount of people feel the same.
Im playing to sail around either alone or with friends and sink some mother falkers ;) so any "rewards" i get are just a bonus.
Microtransactions are usually just there for those who need thier egos stroked even if they stroke it themselves. For you ( who seems to be playing for thr rewards? ) then imagine how good you can feel that someone went out and paid cash for a reward you got for free !
