constant lockups and crashes on windows 10. No info to troubleshoot

  • Hello,

So i've been in the technical alpha and now the closed beta, but something has changed that makes the game lockup or drops me back to desktop fairly quickly (rougly 10 minutes of gameplay will kill it) and i have no idea how to troubleshoot the problem. I didnt experience this problem when i was playing the technical alpha and nothing has changed hardware-wise. I cant find any logs or error messages and i basically have no idea what is causing this problem.

Is there a way to get some help on this?

  • @dustie360 Do you have an AMD card?

  • I have a GTX 770 card here and the game was constantly freezing, i was rarely able to turn in a single chest and allmost gave up on the beta however after playing around with all the settings i found a solution.

Under Graphics Settings set Lighting Detail to Common or lower, i did not have a single crash since.

    Currently running the game with
720p (1080p is more than playable but only using xbox controller)
    Shadow Detail: Rare
    Model Detail: Mythical
    Water Detail: Mythical
    Lighting Detail: Common

I hope changing the Lighting Detail can help others who are experiencing frequent freezes and lockups in the beta.

  • i've been having similar issues, but manage to last closer to an hour before crashing to desktop.

it is frustrating because it usually happens when I am returning to an outpost after picking up a chest (losing all my progress when it crashes).

    I am on windows 10 and have a AMD RX 580 4gb

I will try the lighting tip that someone else suggested in this thread though!

  • @el-espectro-0

yes. Sapphire Radeon rx 580 with 8GB ram. Running the latest drivers from AMD. Version 18.1.1

  • changing the lighting did not help for me. I got another crash about 30 minutes in and after i had picked up a chest.

  • @dustie360 The crash is a issue caused by the AMD drivers.

    The support team said:
"This is caused by the AMD driver Adrenalin, version 17.12.1. AMD are working on a fix for this. In the meantime you may go to a previous driver version and your problem should go away."

I am also in version 18.1.1 and the game is still crashing. I have not tried to install a lower version so I can not confirm it works.

  • @el-espectro-0
i might still have an older version lying around. i'll give it a try and see if it works.

By the way, have you noticed any graphics glitches when looking at the water? I can see "stripes" of some sort.

  • @dustie360 Like squares that move when you turn the camera?

  • @el-espectro-0 yeah. that.

  • @dustie360 Yes. I have not reported it yet. They are quite noticeable when you climb to high places and look at the sea.

  • I have the exact same issue as of now. A sapphire Radeon RX 580 Nitro + 8gb. Random Crashes or water totally disappearing.

    Latest driver installed.

I have the same with Gamblefront 2 Star Wars.

Seems to be an Unreal Engine Issue.

I pré ordered the game....am worrying about this since Beta 1...

Only Unreal Game working is PUBGs.

  • Iam on win10 and have a AMD HD7900 series.
I had theese freezes as well. During the autumn/winter test sessions I remember playing for like 20-50 minutes when it frooze without warning. I couldnt find any patterns or sppecific thing I was doing. Just remembered all hard work geeting spoiled, butmostly every crew I couldnt find again. Then I learned to friend the one I was sailing to get back on. :)

But this last open test session this weekend I did install the latest driver there was, 18.3.1 and never got this freezes. The longest sessions I have on record without freezes where i quitted myself is 1 hour 10 minutes, and 1 hour 24 minutes.
I dont have the time to sit any longer than that because, kid! I try to learn her steer, say yarr and drink grogs... Forget about the last one! :)
