Maybe I'm just being picky at this moment :-)
But any idea why sand is the same color even if the water flows over it?
Wet sand color
@galadriljfh - I can handle the sand not changing colour. What I'd like to see is footsteps left in the sand.
@tartansnake-8 That would be absolutely awesome! Considering it's Unreal 4, it's definitely possible. I wonder if they dabbled with it but found it was too much of a performance hit considering the multiplayer nature of the game especially.
@xxvalicxx - Sorry, just remembered. We had to sacrifice sand effects to implement snakes. It was a hard decision but I think we made the right call.
Its not that hard actually,
they already have a displacement map for the moving ocean, they can copy that displacement map with an offset (think 2 waves here) that the sand shader than uses as a color multiplier to darken the sand color. Performance wise this shouldn't be a big deal aswell. As for the Sand snakes; You can combine the footstep decal with the snake decal and give priority to whatever came last. As this would use the same sand shader the displacement map should also be applied to color this so footsteps in the sea would be of a darker color
