Parley

  • Would like to see the community create a non verbal pacts, raised cannons, white flag and ( grog and music), would translate to meeting for a parley (talk to discuss intentions).

P.s i can't wait to board a ship and take a chest and leave thou hahaha.

  • @jiggsaw-josh We had some ways in-game. Like yelling Peace/Parley, blinking with your lantern, constantly hopping...

  • @jcmdeadpool good to know

  • @jiggsaw-josh I will respect when you blink at me at least :D

  • If their attempting peace good chance they be having some treasures argh fire the cannons and lay waste to the ship!

  • @madame-ching I didn't say I didn't load all the cannons and maybe a friend or 2, always be ready to fight.

  • @JiggSaw-Josh

This goes back to my post about NVC. We really need a way to express our intent in an opening introduction!

  • I agree...however to be devil's advocate, with a simple "white flag" addition comes the abuse of that. Once again, it's all about how pirate you want to be or what kind of pirate. Personally, I've met a lot of fellow pirates and there are many different ways each chooses to be a pirate. I love watching how the styles mesh and collide together. I hope that makes sense...

  • @pazoolah Does for me.

  • @pazoolah of course Haha, always be ready to fight, tis a pirate life

  • Although I'm not the biggest fan of teaming I'll do everything #tobemorepirate so the number one indicator might be blinking lanterns.

  • yell friendly

  • Playing instruments or text chatting "Ahoy" and jumping like a fool seem to work pretty well.

  • Good to know guys, stoked for the beta

  • Not gonna lie so many ships tried to flash lanterns at me. My crew and me just laid waste and looted them at end of day we pirates :)

  • @commando-slippy lol #BeMorePirate

  • @zombie-p1ague more like #PirateSlippyForLife

  • @jiggsaw-josh
Yarr ha ha har ha har, who da ya think be we boy!
Raise yer cannons and play yer music, fer I wil use ya white flag as a blindfold as I send ya ta meet Davy Jones of tha edge of me plank!

    HAR HAR ha YARR

  • (sorry for the slight necro, but I wanted to weigh in on this.)
One thing missing from the GAME is parley. I'm not talking about all the things you could possible do to indicate parley to other players. I'm talking about a parley which the GAME enforces. It could work like jail. One side of ships in proximity could offer it. The other could agree, decline, or ignore. Could be timed, or broken by agreement. I think this is needed if there isn't a place on the map that is at least semi-safe where people can gather. Otherwise, due to the lack of consequences for aggressive behavior, the mechanics of the current game dictate that we blast each other on sight.

  • like a Heeeey don't shoot!!!...lol I'm not hostal and I have no loot..lol and I'm alone..lol

Used to m8, not been too successful with that in the beta!!
A lot of shoot 1st players this time!! Oh well, their loss ;)

  • @logansdadtoo
Back in my day, when you wanted to signal you were friendly you had to yell "Ahoy Ahoy" while playing the hurdy gurdy with your hands and the concertina with your feet, uphill in the snow both ways...

Tons of new players that weren't in alpha haven't learned our unofficial signals yet. It was like that for us before too until everyone kind of clued in and agreed that flailing about like a fish on the deck means I'm peaceful. In time the noobs will figure it out once they realize that often times having a chat first often leads to much more fun than just blowing everything to pieces!

  • @erikinthebakery
I've given up going for the friendly approach this time, i tried again yesterday & that was enough!!
I was sunk by a galleon whilst at an outpost, so i thought i'd go & try & befriend them to see why they sank my boat & sailed away (there were still 2 chests on board!).
I sailed up to them stood on the canopy of the sloop flashing my lantern, i started to talk, but was met with a barrage of gun & cannonfire. 4 more times i attempted this, playing music, waving, dancing for them at the different islands they stopped at, & every time ended with them killing me & sinking my ship.
Not once did i fire back or even run, i just stood there trying to converse.
The 5th time 1 of them spoke "why do you keep following us?" he asked, i replied "i wanted to know why you found it necessary to sink my ship & not even take my treasure?" I heard him say "this d***head wants to......" Thats all i needed to hear, i was under their boat with a boom boom quick as a flash & after the explosion i was aboard & slaughtering pirates left, right & centre.
I relieved them of 2 Captains chests & noticed they had boom booms in the captains cabin, as i was leaving i shot perfectly with the cannon, causing another massive explosion, a few seconds later the galleon was gone beneath the waves!!
I only wanted to have a chat guys, your actions were totally unnecessary, but i suppose you learnt your lesson!!
You know who you are guys, so if you would like to come & share your side of the story, please do ;)

  • Confirming that indeed blinking your lantern and communication between ships with the bells DOES work. Actually was able to combine 2 Four man crews to sail on one ship by blinking lanterns at a distance at first to show we were looking to gain more men for the vessel. And I have to tell you, having 8 sailors on a single ship is SOOOO much better than 4, and when it comes to gold - we split the loot. First voyage is selected by Crew one, the treasure that is found is theirs; After the first voyage is done - Crew 2 selects their voyage, and what they find is theirs. The first Crew keeps their chests on mid deck, and the second crew keeps theirs next to the brig (so that we keep track on who’s booty is who’s.)

  • While it does work sometimes... during the beta for me it has not worked as often as it used to...

I'm sure the new players will learn what flashing the lantern means :)

  • There will always be shoot first players. Even if there was a universally known symbol of peace and friendship, they'd still come in cannons blazing and sink you. Some just want to steal your goods for the sake of stealing them and the rest just want to kill you for the sake of killing you.

  • PvP could really benefit from some kind of Parley system. As it stands, there's no way to tell anyone's true intentions until you get into cannon range.

It would be great if there was a flag you could fly that would make your boat and crew neutral to prevent them from doing PvP damage (not taking, before anyone gets upset). Then have a Jolly Roger to fly that turns on PvP damage for you and your boat. That way, intentions are known at a distance and appropriate action can be taken, rather than people treating everyone as hostile.

Limit flag changes to being anchored at an outpost.

  • Good luck with that.
