put yourself in a new players shoes. think objectively about the doubloon situation. the proofs in the pudding?

  • these numbers might not be 100% accurate because if the details im seeing are correct it was last updated june 2024 and even more old season cosmetics have been added.

someone went and made a pricelist for how much money you would need to buy all cosmetics in the game.
so as of 2024. 306 Million gold to buy all cosmetics, 111,000 doubloons to buy all those cosmetics. each season passively gives us about what 300 doubloons? i never pay attention. but anyway seasons = 18x300 doublons = 5400 passive doubloons lets say theres 100 commendations with doubloon values and set that to 10, usually they only give 5 i think so thinking 10 would be a nice average? i think im padding both numbers generously thats another 1000 passive doubloons. so total doubloons to buy all cosmetics in ship. probably closed to 150,000 at this point as theres been 6 seasons added since this price list was updated. but lets stick with the outdated info because its already apparent enough that the deletion is nonsense.

    111,000 doubloons needed
-6000 doubloons obtained passively (rounded it up 600 doubloons to be generous with it)
105,000 doubloons need to be farmed to buy all items

and from the sounds of it all the new items being added will have significant prices as well. deleting players time, or maybe more accurately forcing the players to be forced to regrind the stuff they already had because you are punishing them for playing your game too much. is wrong in itself. but this change is something year one players, and more importantly players who 100% every single season can shrug off. those players passively got all the doubloon cosmetics for free & got passive free doubloons on top of that.

meanwhile a playstation player who missed the first 11 seasons of the game. that 11 seasons of cosmetics with high doubloon price tags. also missed 11 seasons of passive season pass doubloons.

the try hard day 1 players need to stop being dismissive. be subjective. look at the actual math. the doubloon problem is the same problem that caused rare to punish innocent people when the burning blade came out. they are sorting the players by a number. for the burning blade exploit they literally had no way to track who was actually exploiting. the only way they could guess, GUESS, a literally shot in the dark, but based off numbers emissary leader board, something they have never looked at in the past to realize how many try hards grind like crazy on day 1. so lots of false positives on that one. they drew a line at like the 1 million emissary value mark or so. they basically just looked for a big gap between the top lower number and the lowest high number. marked everyone above that line as an exploiter. it would be a shot in the dark for me as well i want to say i might have gotten 2.5 or 3 million emissary value at that point? reaper emissary seems harder to obtain these days i feel they nerfed it at some point? but 3 million emissary value for a 30 hour play session seems about normal for my seasons prior. i think the burning blade was also paying out too generously in the first place so that probably didnt help matters. anyway point being they drew a line at a value that wasnt accurate because their lack of research. they didnt compared past season emissary ledgers to see what the normal trend was in day 1 leader board values. they didnt consider how much you would gain from doing ONE SINGLE commendation.... (ok i might have done 5 coms i dont recall, our main focus was getting the 8 bb, 10x out the way. the one that spiked the numer was the longer one. lvl 8 burning blades. took us like 3 hours per 8 lvls yet we were exploiting? that would take a galleon crew 10 minutes via the exploit.

so basically i think they are looking at lifetime sot players doubloon values. looked at how much they want to set the price to on the new items, came to the conclusion "yea like 1 million players will be able to buy all these day 1" flaw in the data? 999,900 of that 1 million players are inactive. when they checked the numbers i highly doubt they looked at active users. just like when they boast about their player count "40+ million players" that is pirates created since march 2018. as it was only 1 pirate per account until recently that was their measure of success. how many people made a character. doesnt matter if 14.8 million players havent earned "now bring me that horizon" "you set sail for the first time. 63.22%" completion (out of 40 million players.... ooof, (i was going to say 1 million then looked it up... woah thats insane.) that should have 100% of players completed people only played for 2 minutes and couldnt figure out how to leave port because there was no tutorial at launch so they couldnt even figure out how to use the ship. point being with the passive doubloon income. especially in earlier days with nothing to spend them on. keeping in mind doubloons were added to buy the fomo cosmetics in the first year of the game. they later started giving us the cosmetics for free while also still giving us the doubloons so hey. you can spend the doubloons on levels. oh but you can buy your way to pirate legend. not fair for thos who "did it when it was hard" so now limite letters to 1 per faction per update. so yea even early on we were literally stripped of ways to spend doubloons so many many many players with vast doubloon counts arent even playing the game any more. i would argue this deletion is punishing newer and active players more.

all the people who are in support of the doubloon deletion are also people who have never stopped playing. not trying to say your opinion doesnt matter but you arent thinking about the facts or being rational about the situation. you got all the current doubloon cosmetics in the game for free. you have no idea the high price tag on all these old season cosmetics that have now been added back into the game. you literally have nothing to spend the currency on so it literally hurts nothing to delete them. but youre being selfish. youre not thinking about the people who are new to the game. the people who didnt have the opportunity to passively get these expensive cosmetics for free, in all this yes... there is 1 thing ive neglected to add so i will now. the players who want to collect 100% of the cosmetics are probably rare. there was a time that was me. i managed to put that in check pretty quick. however there are certain smaller items i kind of wouldnt mind 100%ing. like hair styles could be one to consider. but at 700 doubloons each and i think i need like 20 of them at this point? yea... too rich for my blood.

all the people who have completing every season. gotten everything passively handed to them for free. saying this deletion is fine cause YOU dont need it. probably also not willing to put in the effort to research just how much the stuff costs. i could look it all up. but yall dont care. this game needs a better experience for new players. but you cant think about those people. all you can think about is yourself. you dont need it or care so why should anyone else? basically my experience with online gaming is everyone is selfish, inconsiderate and wants things their way and they know best. forget how other people feel, if they are new to the game thats their fault. they want the game to be the way they want it. even if it means the game gets shut down because you get your way

  • A lot of text just to say.
We need more ways to earn doubloons faster so you can own everything. (Why idk)

As a new player. A good causal new player with 0 knowledge of the game. This be the least of my concerns and frankly I be more interested in how to unlock that gold curse or unlock captain status once I figure out how to properly sail a ship
And locate a chest X on old faithful XD

  • @roborob-r66y Dude, I don't know what your beef is with SOT because of this wall of text without punctuation you built to vent your frustration... several times.

All I can tell you is that SOT is one of the most welcoming titles for new players because no one can get overpowered in this game. Old timers and newbies both share the same tools, weapons and crafts. This was visible specifically during the time when PS5 players joined SOT.

In the end the doubloons thing might turn out to be a blessing, let's wait and see!

    Yeah totally.

The team has dropped yet another ball, waited years too long to complete a feature and now that folks think doubloons were a permanent currency they are just now getting around to finishing it; angering most of the community. What a blessing!

  • @roborob-r66y sadly Sea of Thieves isn't getting enough new players anyways to justify the change. The game is slowly reaching its twilight years with most "average" players being the long time players and or diehard fans who have already invested in the in-game economy, It will take a miracle and or a major game changing update of some kind to get band wagons of new players to play concurrently again. But that's a completely different issue, These next few upcoming seasons/updates are defiantly gonna either make or break a lot of players depending on what Rare decides to do.
