With the addition of PlayStation players and the sun -setting of the insider NDA , can we expand this beautiful game to free to play, similar to Destiny’s New Light mode where pirates could potentially access safer Seas without an active Xbox or PlayStation online membership could be a great incentive as a way to get people in without a pay-wall and the natural growth of a Nearly 8 year game going strong.
Now Bring Me That Horizon / Free To Play update concept
@mr-enzyme-yt Thing is, to play online, you need a membership, with that said, you are able to invite friends onto your ship and soon I think other ships can also join you in on safer seas.
@kianonboard There are several free to play games such as overwatch II, marvel rivals, warzone, Roblox etc and Fortnite etc that don’t require an online paid subscription to play; I don’t see why SoT should be any different, there’s still the gamespass and the PSN paid active subscription barring people.
@mr-enzyme-yt Yes, that's because for free to play games, you do not need an active subscription. Sea of Thieves is not free.
Xbox regular here, long time Neverwinter free player:
You have to have GP to play f2p on Xbox.Free to play has always required gold or gamepass to actually play on Xbox.
Also free to play incentivizes paid players, p2w is something Rare has previously frowned upon.
Of course they said Safer Seas was never going to happen either, so keep nagging them about arena I guess...🤔🤪

All that changed when the Xbox One released. Free to Play games do NOT require a Live/Game Pass subscription to play online anymore. That is why Halo Infinite multiplayer does not require a Game Pass subscription, as they released it separately as Free to Play. All Free to Play games on Xbox are just that now, not requiring any additional subscription to play them.
Do try to keep up.
