Do fights on sandglass in closed servers!

  • So many times I and my crew dueling on sandglass and accidentaly been hit by random player from server where duel is taking place. I think it's absurd situation when random players can intrude in 1vs1 pvp sandglass duel. RARE, why you don't put dueling ships into closed server???

  • It was designed that way intentionally. It's PvP on demand with all the dangers of the open world around you like storms, fog and yes, players.

  • Because Hourglass is meant to be a way to find open world PvP.
And, like all normal open-world PvP; third parties can intrude.

    It's working as intended.

"Sandglass" (lol) is a shortcut to not waste time hunting for ships across the entire map, and a guarantee (excluding loss farmers) that the ships you run into will fight back. So no, its not absurd at all.

RARE, why you don't put dueling ships into closed server???

Because this is not Arena = not a separate mode.

  • The point of Hourglass is to encourage others to get involved, including PvE.

If you don’t want people interfering, your best bet to lower the risk is to head to the southwest of the map where almost no one goes, or to Devil’s Roar if you’re feeling bold.

Then just wait — Hourglass typically spawns someone every 15 minutes.

  • Arena was closed because it was a separate mode that wasn't widely used and was deemed a drain on dev resource to maintain alongside adventure. One of lessons learned applied to hourglass was to incorporate it with adventure to avoid same issue. Third parties suck, no one disagrees (who does hg and has had it happen). But unlikely to change.

  • To echo what others have said - it's intentional to put HG fights on shared servers.

Also I know this is anecdotal and other's experience may vary, but I've completed approximately 250 HG battles and been 3rd partied in maybe like 10 of those fights (so around 4% of the time). It doesn't feel great to lose due to a 3rd party, but I feel like it's actually rather uncommon.

Send a picture or copy text. Where does it say. It’s just 1v1? (Ship vs ship)

  • @i-marmot-i I've done about the same number of fights and honestly I would say based on my experience, it's even rarer than that. I have had 2 people ever 3rd party across all the fights I've done.

It's just a typical SoT exaggeration drama. Something happens to them few times = happening all the time, and to "everyone"

Few toxic people in PvP = everybody is toxic in PvP
Few cheaters = everybody is cheating
    Few times get 3rd partied = 4/5 fights they're getting 3rd partied
    etc.

    It never gets old 😂

  • @potatosord In my experience, i've been third partied in about 1/3 of my fights but the issue for me is I'm not good at immobilizing my opponent's ship early even when i kill them so the fights last longer which gives more time to have the battle seen and those who would 3rd party approach.

In general i'd say during Fight Nights/Gold n Glory and any other events that boost HG rep gain, 3rd party risk increases but at the same time the longer it takes to end a fight, the more likely someone will see it happen but if a fight lasts that long, you either are evenly-ish matched or just lack the skill to press the advantage.

Just yesterday we had about 6 fights (duo-sloop) in 1.5-2 hours or so; no 3rd party joined the fights.

It had been a while since we did Houglass, but from what I remember getting 3rd partied (duo-sloop, 3 brigantine and some 4 galleon) was really, really scarce.

  • @lem0n-curry It's only ever an increased risk factor when the battle takes longer but i think other higher risk factors is when the fight takes place somewhere likely to see more traffic, if ya fighting in the middle near reapers, someone will likely see you, if ya fighting way up north above smugglers bay, chances are you could fight upwards of 3 hours and never see another ship. It's really all about the where and how long that the risk of 3rd party can be applied to and the where can easily be controlled at the cost of faster matches.

  • @thedrakyle 1/3 of your fights seems like insane numbers to me. I'm at like 2/250, so to think that at the same number of fights you would have been 3rd partied 80 times. That seems very disproportionate. I'm only one guy, but from what people have replied with so far, your numbers are very outside of the norm. I have had fights that go on for 45 minutes, and didn't get 3rd partied in them.

  • @PotatoSord Yeah i probably overstated it a bit there, it's more closer to how it felt because when the fights take so long (for me) the instances that stand out like being 3rd partied feel more often.

  • @thedrakyle It's hard to see it as anything other than overstatement when you are supposedly seeing them at a rate 20-40 TIMES as high as other people

  • Being third partied is part of the model.

There is an argument to having HG ships dive to HG only servers but this is just to increase server performance. These servers would have World events, tall tails, voyages, random loot spawns (except supplies) all turned off. Then the server would only have to track a max of 3HG battles at any time.

You would still get 3rd partied by players who just finnished their battle and sailed over to you.

You could still have sharks and skelly ships spawn after a while to break stalemates, but these would not be hanging around randomly.

Lowering would require diving back to the main servers, if you are the only ship on the server you would get merged back.
