I personally feel AT LEAST, the first one should be free.

Technically, the first pirate profile — your main pirate — is free. It’s only the extra slots that cost ancient coins, and even then, most players earn enough through the season pass or by killing ancient skeletons.

I’ve heard that some players reset their pirate after reaching level 100 on the season pass to keep the ancient coins and re-earn the rewards from scratch. I haven’t tested it myself, but since ancient coins are treated as “paid currency,” they’re the only thing that carries over — everything else gets wiped.

So yeah, there are definitely ways to get extra coins without spending real money, if you’re patient about it.

It's not a question of patience or not, this feature should be purely free, that's all.
Especially as it involves paying to restart the game!
    So I note that:

    • You pay for the game (or a subscription) to play.
    • You pay for the Plunder Pass.
    • You pay for skins.
    • We pay to change our character.
    • And now we'll have to pay to restart the game.

So if you like paying for anything and everything, that's fine, but this is just rubbish, really rubbish. Accept that and you'll accept all the excesses!

  • I wan't new gold shop drop to be big.
I wan't multiple set's of regular piratish cloth and ship decorarion.
They cloud be very expensive as money sink - without it gold is meanibgless and it's lessen adventure.

The only Plunder Pass I ever paid for was Season One. Since then, I’ve earned enough Ancient Coins just by playing each season to get it for free, lol.
Some of you act like every update is a personal attack. Seriously, have you even played other games? Try Call of Duty — you don’t get anything for free there.
At least Rare lets you earn cosmetics and the Plunder Pass just by playing.
Servers and updates don’t fund themselves. And they’ve kept monetization tied to optional stuff that doesn’t impact gameplay.
Let’s be real, if it was free, most of you still wouldn’t use it. You just want something to cry about every season.

So, you see, the problem is that you're taking your example as a global datum, as if all players did as you do. If that were the case, Rare would have closed the company and the game would have been shut down long ago...
Except that here we're talking about a paid feature, we're not even talking about cosmestics here, we're talking about a feature, like an add-on, so okay, you accept that, then you'll accept anything. So if you don't mind being ripped off, I do mind being taken for a cash cow for something as silly as having a second profile...
It's such a scam that if I want another profile, all I have to do is open another Microsoft account and play the games....

And contrary to what you say, Rare doesn't offer us skins, we pay for them. (the skins in the plunder Pass) so yes, with a reduced price, but it has a cost (which is normal, of course), but here we're talking about paying for a feature.

I talked about pay to win (or pay to game) in addition to the purchase price of the game a few months ago, and now my fears are confirmed.

I can only agree with what you say!
And the latest development update, which vindicates the cheaters by changing the FOV to 110 in the near future, is one of the worst decisions they've ever made... What message are they trying to send exactly?

You tell me? Cheaters are going to cheat regardless, and cheaters are going to get banned regardless.

FoV increase is top 3 most demanded features in the game by the general public.
It should of been in the game since day 1, just like many other things. Literally almost a DECADE for the most basic features in gaming history to be implemented is EMBARASSING on their part. It really is.
Next is the saved cosmetic presets. Lets take it slowly RARE, I know it takes time to crack away at that stubbornness and stop acting like SoT is a game made in the 1980s where devs are still figuring out the very basics.

PS Im sure RARE would of survived based off pure game sales alone (Not any other paid features such as emporium, pirate appearance potion, gamepass etc.)
Hard to tell though when 90% of the profit goes to one guy instead of an equal split to the devs that are the ones that keep the game alive in all reality.

    The good joke.... ^^
And then, if I tell you that the captaincy in the Safers Seas is one of the most requested things (even more than the FOV at 110), will be implemented, do you believe it?

The question isn't whether they're doing this in response to player demand (which is distorting the game, let's not forget), but how it was announced (again).

  • @uluckyhitreg

Some of you act like every update is a personal attack. Seriously, have you even played other games?

And you're acting like Rare is doing charity and like they're the only company having this business model lol

Try Call of Duty — you don’t get anything for free there.
At least Rare lets you earn cosmetics and the Plunder Pass just by playing.

Try Apex Legends, Fortnite, etc. Absolutely the same business model for Season Pass.

If you're going to make an argument, don't intentionally omit counter facts because it just makes your argument look disingenuous.

Servers and updates don’t fund themselves. And they’ve kept monetization tied to optional stuff that doesn’t impact gameplay.

This is the only part I can actually agree with.

However, I still do not agree the monetization model and how they're pushing it lately is a good one. There is a reason why people are more and more outraged, and a good one.

I bet people would rather pay even for a DLC Tall Tale/Private Servers/whatever else, then for a half-feature they already have access to for free (minus paid cosmetics). Of all the possible things they could monetize that people actually want, they go with these profiles asked by, I assume, 1% of the playerbase. It's just big L xD

Never played Apex Legends or Fortnite, so I wouldn’t know. Just COD and Sea of Thieves are the only PVP games I can be bothered with these days.

    It's the truth lol.

Did you even watch the video? I'm assuming yes, One of the reasons why they finally upped the FoV limit is because a LOT of bans are from FoV Pak users and I guess RARE support are tired of banning the 10th player when more malicious cheats and behaviors need priority. You could say ''The cheaters won'' but let's be honest, the cheaters in this game always win because of how slow RARE is.

And then, if I tell you that the captaincy in the Safers Seas is one of the most requested things (even more than the FOV at 110), will be implemented, do you believe it?

I really REALLY don't care about the state of the game anymore and what should or should not be in it. They should make safer seas just like adventure servers, no cap on anything. Captaincy available. 'Tool not rules' falls short when you put limits onto something, it just does.
If people want to live the rest of their SoT lives on safer seas with out seeing a peep while enjoying the game to it's full potential (Without PvP).
    Then they should.

  • Thinking about it, FoV and Pirate Profiles are both intended to be QoL changes, so my hope is that Season 17 will be a big QoL update. Would make sense if the Smuggling thing is as underwhelming as it appears that there's more to the season.

We're still a couple of months away from it, so maybe we'll get more QoL additions revealed as we get closer. Outfit presets? Slimline voyage banners? Weapon skin favouriting? Decoupling of the secondary interact and weapon swap on controller? I can only dream.

In the history of the game, “quality of life” seasons have never been great seasons...
    Example: season 5, season 9, season 11, season 12, season 14

In reality, the great seasons are season 3, 6, 7, 8, and why not 13?

As far as cheaters are concerned, yes, they are banned, but did you know how easy it is to recreate a new account and play again?
The ban is only temporary (very temporary), which is why I haven't sent a ticket to support in a very long time...

As for your opinion on Safers Seas, I totally agree with you, but I was telling you this mainly to show the contradiction between players/developers... ;)
