Issues with launching on battlenet

  • Hi there, I got a key for the battlenet version of Sea of Thieves Deluxe Edition, and upon launching it, the game errors out and won't let me connect to the servers.

The login flow for the Battlenet version for me goes like this:

    1. Sign into Battlenet and launch the client
    2. Launch Sea of Thieves by clicking the Play button
    3. Sea of Thieves reaches the title screen, says "Click to continue"
    4. Click to continue, invokes Microsoft sign-in window
    5. Enter Microsoft Account username, password and authenticator code
    6. Microsoft sign-in window closes, returns to Sea of Thieves
    7. Game attempts to log in again, returns Lavenderbeard error, says servers are unavailable
    8. Clicking "Try again" returns a different, random beard error
    9. Restarting the game client starts the process again, requiring me to log in through Microsoft again

I've tried repair installations, I've tried reinstalling, I've tried all of the steps listed on the site for Lavenderbeard errors. Nothing has worked for me.

I can launch the game successfully on Xbox (console), through Game Pass Cloud, and through Game Pass on PC. It's just the Battlenet version of the game that doesn't launch properly.

I've attempted to contact Battlenet support to help with this and they directed me to post a message here, and I'm really hoping I can get some help as I missed out entirely on the early access period and can't access the bonus contents that came with the Deluxe edition of the game.

    Thank you for reading!

I thought you were supposed to link your battlenet account to your MS account ?

Could it be that you have multiple MS accounts and it's linked to one that has not SoT on it ?

  • @lem0n-curry

My Microsoft account is definitely linked to my Battlenet account, I'm getting Game Pass benefits in other Blizzard games like Overwatch, and it's the same account I've had for many years.

  • Might wanna send this to support.

Making this thread is what was recommended to me by Battlenet support, I'm following what I've been told to do. I'm just hoping that someone else has experienced this and can assist.

  • @mapleqb

Ah. I see, never understood that. That the role of support to help. Yet they throw you here expecting someone to know more than support of an issue that more related to the Game. :/

    Sorry for your issues.

Battlenet support might not know the proper location. A random user on the forums might be able to help you, but this being a new platform for Sea of Thieves there might not be a lot of troubleshooting knowledge yet. What they should have told you to do was to contact Sea of Thieves support using the ticket system, which is here:

  • You ever figure it out? Because I am having the same issue.

  • I was having the same issue. I was able to fix it by going to the install folder for the battlenet version and running as administrator. This did mean that the xbox password screen didn't pop up on top of the game. I had to alt tab to get to it. Once I did login, it worked with no problems whatsoever.

Unfortunately, this does not fix the issue when you run it normally. Meaning you will have to run as administrator every time. Or rather, set it to always run as administrator.
