Please don't ban users that play using the UE VR injector (or let us play offline, or on private servers)

  • Hi devs,

Sea of thieves an absolutely amazing game and I have always wanted to play it in VR.

While I understand that the cost of developing and maintaining a VR mode doesn't make sense given the size of the audience, the new Unreal Engine VR Injector toolkit allows users (like myself) to modify the game to add in a pretty compelling VR experience (to the point where some games feel like they were actually made for VR).

This, of course, requires modifying game code in memory after the game has launched and will probably be flagged as hacking, resulting in bans getting handed out.

I can understand if you might not want VR players to play on public servers, given the controls are slower than mouse/keyboard and might make for a poor experience when we jump into combat, so let us sail the seas solo! Or alternatively in a private session with known friends!

I sure as hell would love the chance to get actually really sea sick with 3 of my VR friends, smashing through storms, looting islands and fighting NPCs.

Just don't ban us, we aren't out here trying to ruin the game for other people ❤️🏴‍☠️

  • I mean, if they allow modifying the game for VR; You know cheaters will find a way to use that as a backdoor to launch cheats.
If you lock your front door, but leave the back door wide open, guess which one robbers will go for? Same thing applies to code; You allow one way to modify the game, and cheaters will use it to cheat.

Modding the game is seen as modding game by the anticheat; It has no idea the what or how or why.
And you know cheaters would claim 'I was just trying to use VR!' after flying around with infinite kegs, attempting to drum up support for them and anger against the devs in the court of public opinion for banning them..

Only way to prevent that is if Rare themselves code up a way that does not bypass their anticheat, and as cool as VR would be; I don't see that happening.

and those words alone goes against the rules.

    Yup.

    Stop breaking the Rules than.

  • They’re gonna ban you if you modify the game files, and now you’ve made a post on it, they’re gonna be watching you carefully…

Yeah, unfortunately so. I feel the only viable approach that doesn't involve Rare coding VR into the game is to simply sandbox modded sessions to offline play or coop PVE.

You're not hurting anyone if it's just friends or NPCs.

Come to think of it, is it currently possible to launch the game without anticheat and play on a self hosted private server?

    No.

Regrading there being a solution to a made up problem. PvE servers are not needed, Safer Seas works perfectly for that.
