Suggestions for future sea of thieves update.

  • There are 3 things I'd like to suggest here. All new additions to the ship. Some to row boats. Firstly. Mortars. We see these in assassins creed black flag and in that game they are great for doing long range area of effect damage to ships. If added to sea of thieves this would be quite interesting. Imagine being able to stuff 2-3 kegs towards a ship as torpedos! Or a bombing run if you will. Or a barrage of 10 cannon balls 0r 3 chain shots etc towards a enemy boat. It would obviously need to be balanced but the possibilities are endless. They could be positioned at the back of the ships near or behind the wheel or in front where the harpoon are only 1 for each ship for balance. Second suggestion swivel or chase guns. We already partially see these in the third monkey island tall tale as chase cannons but only the A.I. can use them. Would it make the game harder for newer players having these? Absolutely. But it would also make fights more interesting being able to load up chain shots and other ammo into front facing cannons to cause havoc or being able to have 2 small swivelinh guns on each side that would hold maybe 10 shots before needed to be reloaded to take out crews easier would be nice. Third suggestion. This pertains to row boats more specifically customization. Allow us to say swap out a cannon on a cannon rowboat for a harpoon if we wanted. How? It would attach and detach similar to how the rowboat dock to the ships and could be found as washed up loot on beaches with the same rarity or maybe slightly more common as cursed cannonballs. & if you had spares. They could possibly be attached to the railings on the ship to have back or side facing harpoons or cannons. I feel like these would add a nice variety & mix up to the sandbox of sea of thieves but always open for feedback and suggestions

    Ah. 'It's in a game I like, so every game should do the same as that game'.

    Imagine being able to stuff 2-3 kegs towards a ship as torpedos!

    Once again, throwing balance out the window.

    Incredibly broken.

    It would obviously need to be balanced but the possibilities are endless.

    I don't think you can balance mortars and 'a barrage of 10 cannonballs'. That kind of damage would completely shaft solo and duo sloopers who get attacked by 4-man teams.

    Second suggestion swivel or chase guns.

    Why? All this does is screw over players who don't want to PvP; Now they can't even run away without being hammered because chase guns.

    Would it make the game harder for newer players having these? Absolutely.

    You do realize they are trying to make the new player experience easier, not harder, yes?

    Allow us to say swap out a cannon on a cannon rowboat for a harpoon if we wanted.

    Find a cannon or harpoon rowboat, then. Allowing people to customize their own rowboat just makes it that much easier for people to stealth-board without putting in the work finding a harpoon rowboat beforehand.

  • Mortars aren't for broadside combat they're for long range and they probably wouldn't work exactly like that that just what I was thinking when the idea was in my head. Black flag also has rams on the front of the boat. Would be nice for our boats too. Its not just: its in this game I like so it should be in this game as well. It would be a nice & usefull mechanic to add more variety to PvP & pve. And its for more ranged fighting anyways vs broad plus they're randomly spawned. Not like your forced to use em. Merely suggestions after all it would certainly need to be adjusted for balance chase guns being similar to flint lock damage would be fair imo.

  • @cptnsparrow7656 With the barrages you'd be able to load the mortars basically how you wished maybe a max of 5 shots for cannonballs chains or blunder bombs & firebombs at once if 10 is too overpowered for duo skills and you'd be able to launch kegs but at a slow rate only 1-2 at a time maybe something like what the order of souls fleet has where it can fling them behind you. Having a harder experience for new players is good imo. It makes them learn from those experiences of being sunk & defeated quicker. Will some drop the game and not pick it up again? Probably but you'd also get a decent chunk that would stick around. It would also be nice for hourglass too not just high seas

  • @guildar9194 Not really even intended for stealth boarding either if people wanna tuck they can do it without rowboats. Its just for convenience if you for example have a cannon rowboat on a gallon & you'd rather have a harpoon or plain rowboat then this would allow you to do that since a gally doesn't really need 5 cannons.

  • I would really like pursuit cannons and also anti-pursuit cannons, they could have much lighter damage compared to side cannons, this would make pursuits much more intense
