Can I SELL my DA sails to someone who actually wants them??

It is 100% clear and always has been that cosmetics are not supposed to give an advantage.

But OP bought them for the advantage and is now mad because they no longer provide an advantage.

    Too bad.

You have misread me. I never thought they offered an advantage, I thought that was stupid. I bought them because other players demanded them from a captain.

I never liked the sails (they are ugly), I never wanted them and I thought the idea of a bit of a notch being an advantage was silly. However, the meta-game (at the time) was that everyone played with them, and if you wanted to get a good helmsman (LSD/TSD or later PvP curse) you had to have DA sails.

I had the money, and the helms in discord were asking for them, so I bought the sails.

I am only annoyed that I now have over-priced, useless, ugly sails that I will never use.

Previously I could tolerate owning them because at least they served a purpose: recruiting decent helmsmen, even thought I thought the reason silly.

  • A lot of people in this game buy all the cosmetics with no intention to use them only to be able to spend the large amount of gold they’ve made because there is nothing else to do with gold and this game’s entire progression system is cosmetics.

Lots of people have bought something thinking they’d like it from the preview and turns out they hate it, but there is no refund and no “delete from inventory” in this game. I have always wanted a way to hide the stuff I don’t like or will never use to not have to scroll past so many pages of items to find the ones I do… but that isn’t the way the game is made.

Regardless of why you bought them, you bought them, and now you’re stuck with them just like I’m stuck with every ugly glowing green thing I ever purchased.

It seems a rather deficient lacking, does it not?

I’ve always wished for a better user experience for the cosmetics chests. Ways to filter or make saved sets of your own. Some way to make it easier to navigate the multitude of pages for people who enjoy changing their cosmetics frequently. I personally like to change every time I play, but there are days that it just feels too cumbersome and like a chore, especially if I have crew mates already onboard ready to go and I’m usually the helmsman.

  • You bought them under pressure and now wanna sell them….yeah no

Yeah - for the humor impaired - the part about selling the sails is obviously an absurdity to make a point.

  • This will probably be shut down soon, admins love to C&P that boilerplate response about DA sails and close the thread, can't blame them but these threads will just continue to appear.

It's kind of funny to me how you have half the community arguing about losing the aesthetic advantage of the cut and what it means for veterans who have it or players that got it recently, while the other half complains about it just being a cosmetic but wah wah we spent so much on it give our money (gold) back.

Neither are winning arguments, if you bought it for the advantage, you bought it knowing it might be adjusted later on with a game that tries to keep the playing field constantly level, whether you have 1 hour or 1000 in game. If you bought it as a cosmetic well... you knew it was a cosmetic, shouldn't have any advantages, and if you wanted to spend that gold on something else then that's just bad gold management.

Nah, the issue is that this is just the latest in a series of moves Rare has taken showing that they are perfectly fine disrespecting their veteran fanbase in lieu of getting new players in. (SS's, double gunning, cursed cannon ball nerf to name a few) And i hope that works out for them, truly as someone who used to love this game, but as someone who also bought those after many months of grinding, they will now just sit as a reminder to wasted efforts and what becomes of them. I do wonder if sovereigns will ever be looked at in the same way with the $250,000 entry fee for a ship to use it. Or if one day one of the curses may be nerfed, 5 or so years on.

Sidebar: Anyone else logging in nowadays, sitting at outpost for 5 minutes, then deciding [mod edit] log off? lol or is that just me?

  • Everything should be able to be sold back for 80%, giving you that option, but making you have to be certain you are willing to take the 20% cut.

  • How about a refund from rare for the people who spent long hours grinding 8.3 million gold just for the cosmetic to be changed… VENOM kraken sails are more OP then DA sails now. Pathetic.

  • The Dark Adventurer set was designed with a high price point to reflect their status as a long term play goal and to show your prestige as a pirate who attained them. The Dark Adventurer is therefore priced far above any other set for this reason alone, and the price of the sails themselves is in-line with how we price individual ship items within all our sets.

One of the core design principles of the larger ships is that to be able to helm effectively you need to cooperate with your crew. The person that's on helm shouldn't have great visibility to be able to plot a course and navigate without either cooperation from their crew or raising the mid sail.

The shape of the Dark Adventurer sails and the advantage they ultimately provided was in no way part of the long-term goal for players and played no part in pricing considerations. While this visibility advantage will be removed in December, these sails continue to reflect that intended prestige goal for pirates.

There are no intentions to refund any purchases of the Dark Adventurer sails.

I did not buy them for prestige because I never thought they gave any - I am rather ashamed to own them now, I'd delete them if I could, it's annoying having them in my inventory. The only reason I bought them in the first place was because of the degenerate meta-game caused by their "unintentional" advantage.

The shape of the Dark Adventurer sails and the advantage they ultimately provided was in no way part of the long-term goal for players...

It's nice that Rare finally admit it was their mistake that caused the degenerate meta though, an admission is at least something

...these sails continue to reflect that intended prestige goal for pirates.

I hate to burst your bubble - but that just isn't true. People buying/using DA sails get laughed at now, they are in no way whatsoever an item people respect.

There are no intentions to refund any purchases of the Dark Adventurer sails.

I was being hyperbolic to make a point. The admission of responsibility was good enough.
