Render distances on XSX and server performance

  • So way back when, I did complain that the render distances of other players was way to low and as stated in the title I play on XSX.

    So I’m happy to report that the render distances of other players and also rowboats are much much greater than they were before.

    I think the new render distance may be set a little high though and it may be negatively affecting server performance.

    I can see rowboats like super super far away now like wow I was able to see a rowboat clear as day that was more than 2 map square away.

    I’m just saying I think the new render distances are possibly to far.

    At those extreme distances the ocean is not as detailed, desync is way more noticeable and there’s no reason to render rowboats and players from that far away as like they are further out than you can shoot a cannon.

    It makes it harder to sneak away on a rowboat as well.

    Kinda the point. The crew that’s been stolen from should at least have a chance to catch the sneaky pirate.

    Rowboats can render so far out they appear to float on an invisible ocean; they stand out like a sore thumb.

  • Heya, if you didn't know, render distances are a client-side thing and not a server side thing. Turning up "model detail" will increase your render distance. Servers are Microsoft Azure and capped at 30hz, every player gets the same treatment, server-wise (except for ping, of course).

    That sounds like a hardware issue.
