Open Crew is fun ..........let me explain.

  • Ok so I sense you rolling your eyes so here it goes.

Another legend and I wanted to kill some time till season 10 so we jumped into Open crew just to see if it was a viable option. Full disclosure we are those day one, maxed levels , got all the curses , insider sweats that sail at least three times a week. This is what we found.

    First the bad.

Yes, everything you know about open crew is right. People jump in and out without notice. Some sabotage the boat dropping anchor, setting fires, and communication is difficult due to no mics or players just don't want to talk. This leads to a not so ideal session.

    Now a solution we found.

Everyone that spawns on the ship is just look for some quick fun so we just did world events and took on anything that moved. We found you can't really do voyages because of people just get bored and leave. This is not and LFG. These are random pirates with various levels of greed and aggression.

Don't stock the ship. Most people will leave if the boat sinks so just buy some fireworks for entertainment, raise anchor, drop sails and go. Treat every session like an arcade game if you sink then start again new server new crew. Sometimes you'll be knocking out events back to back and dominating the seas and. Sometimes you get a less experienced crew a sink right away.

Use a captain ship. Players will stick around more if they know at least one pirate knows what there doing. Don't join an open crew, create one. It's easier to sell at the sovereign anyway. Sell after every world event stacking is just silly and nobody is grinding Open Crew. You also get to show off all those cool ship sets you been collecting. Galleon works best because of the random AFK and more pirates more fun.

    Communication can be tricky.

Most open crews come with at least one with no Mic but usually they can hear you. Use the prompts like when you have the wheel you can say raise sails or repair the ship. All the things you interact with also have prompts to let your crew mates know your intentions.

    In conclusion

We really had a great time figuring this stuff out and we're big fans of this mode now.The other night we got a Fort of Fortune. We met some amazing pirates. Some that never said a word. We suggest starting an open crew and hanging with the community Sea of Thieves is just stupid fun in Open crew. Be daring. Be more pirate. Thank for listening.

  • nah. the number of times you get thrown in the brig on open crew for no reason other than maybe 2-3 friends didnt understand what open crew was or how to change it. i know they dont have a kick option because they think it would make players feel bad but when i am thrown in the brig without a word then it's a matter of principal that i stay as long as possible so they are a man down the whole time because they didnt want to simply ask me to leave.

kind of hilarious that i tried to reply to your post but your name violates forum word rules so it wouldnt let me reply with the atUsername lol its kind of like when i want to say something in the game feels poopy as an adult you want to use the S word for that but because this is a forum you try to just the Cr word for dropings but that is a bad word on these forums. thats the nice word...................

  • I've had this gamer tag for about 15 years. Times were different then.

  • Oh yay. Another intelligent poster we can't quote lol. Ask me about the cowboy we can't quote lol.

Okay so I'm quoting your post.

    ^^^this^^^

    Open crew is for shenanigans.

  • And... it really helps to have a chill Captain!

  • Your post kind of proves what I suggested about open crew - people need a choice of activity when they que in. Just like when you join alliance servers you get to pick faction/activity.

  • @pithyrumble who's the cowboy?

Dude! Don't do alliance servers! Do I even have to say why?

  • I enjoy playing open crew. That is how I played back in alpha and beta and it was so much fun! Here lately I have been seeing nothing but the best of the community out there on the seas.

    @pithyrumble who's the cowboy?

His name is cow in Spanish + Hombre. Lol. Silly filters. Like you, the filters block us from posting your name. Try it.

  • @riptide3683 I don't they are super boring. But anyone can play however they want as long as its not breaking the rules.

That being said, since Rare continues to rob me of gold and if they release something Monkey Island related that costs millions or If i decide that I really want some more DA ship cosmetics i just might. I find it hard to find a crew that sticks with the game long enough to make many millions. Playing solo is a hit and miss sometimes. Last weekend I made probably 3 million myself, doing oos and reapers and it was fun. Next day I got attacked by a brig as soon as I left the outpost trying to do merchants sunken ship voyage. Some people enjoy it, i personally dont find it fun to fight much bigger ships or crews, especially when there is nothing on the line.

  • Tis True! Just did an Open Crew, killed Flameheart and sunk an em sloop, sold all at reaper hideout w/ grade 5!
