Hello ive been playing SOT for 3 years now and i wanna know is it okay if i use a VPN to connect to a closer server Since i live in the middle east there isnt a server there and i just wanted to know if i can connect to EU servers to get better ping because im great at the game but the 140 ping (140 stable ) is killing me for 3 years
VPN
@tzn0096062 it will already connect you to the closest server available adding a vpn will only add to ping not lower it
There has never been an official stance on the use of VPN's.
That being said, when you hit Set Sail, that will give you the best connection so if 140ms is your best ping; you might want to be reviewing the stability and connectivity of your home network.
My network is currently very stable and my ping is like 40ms.
@personalc0ffee Ping is mostly due to your ISP routing and the distance between you to the closest servers. For instance in EU west the servers are located in the Netherlands. Assuming a perfect routing from ISP, you will have a better ping if you live in Amsterdam than if you live in Spain. Regardless of your home network.
I have had plenty of instances where "home" server was 60 ping...90 ping...as high as 110, so it's not 100% reliable that this player is being routed to EU, or the closest Azure points.
This was while pinging sub 40, and even 20's on insider build.
