This is a repost of a comment I left on a separate thread, I'm putting it here just incase that doesn't get the attention I feel it deserves
For the record, because I know chronically online trolls like to nitpick and avoid certain points of peoples posts, I'll put in big bold words so that they can't claim ignorance,
I DO NOT CHEAT ONLINE, I DOWNLOADED THESE TO PROVE EVERYONE WHO SUPPORTS THE RIGHT TO HAVE A DECENT ANTI CHEAT!!!
It took me less than 10 minutes to get cheats for sot, all you have to do is google them and there's guides and multiple videos, I have evidence and recorded video of me going to YouTube, downloading a single .exe file, and then opening it in sot and getting esp. player pins, locations of every item in the game, third person, and even a player list. cheating exists and it is stupidly easy, I am not a cheater and I did this to prove the "experienced" players wrong, who honestly just seem like they're using well structured responses as a way to disguise the fact that they are using cheats as well (because of how easy it is, after all if you claim no issue then there's no issue for rare to fix right?), no matter how minor it is. you cannot play this game for more than 60 hours tops without encountering a cheater and I've been playing since release, those claiming its such a low percentage are honestly either completely oblivious in which case I worry about them, or they're hiding the fact that they cheat themselves. don't believe me? [mod edit] it's honestly just sad how easy it is to cheat in this game because I legitimately love this game and enjoy playing it with my friends, the toxic and belligerent fanbase makes this game KNOWN for its toxicity, just like rust. I've had good moments with players but sadly the negatives FAR AND AWAY outweigh the good ones. oh and before anyone tries claiming the "server side lag" argument, server side lag doesn't add little popups in my HUD that tells me every single player in the game, the sail status, cooking status, and health of ships, as well as nearly every item and animal. here are some links for proof, and I'm willing to die on this hill so anyone who wants to try and prove me wrong is more than welcome too, because I don't want to be right
They look like obvious malware but since I have more than just elementary school level programming knowledge I know you can look inside the executables and see the code inside, you can tell if it's legit if it has a wall of text that all describe the different cheats and then code to implement the cheats into a UI

This is a legitimate problem for Rare, and I'm honestly shocked that there are so many "experienced" players who rely on the server lag argument despite the overwhelming evidence that its blatant hacking, do with this information as you will but honest players just trying to enjoy being a pirate on the seas shouldn't have to deal with the unskilled hackers of this game of which there are many, I am actually begging Rare at this point to take it seriously because they have put no forward movement into getting a better anti cheat. I am FULLY aware of their "anti cheat" that's server side and uses machine learning, but guess what, it relies on player side reporting, and even then they openly admit they don't do much because there's no way to tell if they're legit hackers or just people being salty. As a fanbase we need to band together and make them hear our voices and our grievances on this because it is simply outrageous that they're blatantly ignoring us and deciding to throw us under the bridge. And again for the people who like to spout the ever omnipresent "server lag" argument, how about trying to improve the damn servers then huh? then after that we'll see just how common this really is.
Once again, this is incredibly sad for a good game with a thriving fanbase, people abuse the cheats because on the very low chance they get banned they can just make a new account and use the game pass to play again, which only costs $1 sometimes, but is usually around $10 a month if I believe, and yes, people are sad enough to spend money just to troll online because they have nothing better to do.
NOTE TO MODERATORS LOOKING AT MY POST: I will GLADLY provide further evidence, links, and whatever else they ask of me to prove to them this is such an issue, my only request is that we discuss in private messaging, and I don't get banned for merely pointing out the issue, as I have already deleted them off my computer after recording a set time of gameplay to prove they work and how easy it was.
