Captain Only Helm Privileges

    This post is for all you Ricks out there who routinely have a temporary or semi permanent Morty on your sloop or larger vessel.

    I’ve never been one to be the cliche #imcaptain on LFG posts, but I almost always end up on helm for whatever reason. Obviously the helmsman != Captain or helmsman does not equal Captain.

    I also know that in terms of actual history the Captain of the ship did not actually drive or take the helm.

    However, in SoT more often than not the crew leader or now captain is typically on the wheel.

    I know it would be annoying if the ship was about to crash or if the captain went afk or any unforeseen reason which would make the entire crew not having access to the wheel undesirable.

    HOWEVER, for the sake of a Captain being in control of their vessel I believe there should be an option like with cosmetics which allow only the captain to take helm unless permissions have been granted otherwise.

    I might be a control freak but for those of us with experience, playing with others with no experience, or worse, players who have experience but routinely disagree and object to everything you do including however you decided to dock, or maybe you went left around an island to keep the wind and they thought you should go right against the wind because it’s closer etc, POINT IS, this whole update is dedicated to Captaincy. I’m assuming Rare wants us experienced pirates to try and mentor new players because honestly who wants to help someone else get ship milestones. That being said I believe the captain should be able to control helm permissions.

    This is how I play with my friends. The helm calls the shots (most of the time anyway) because he is the one with the most situational awareness. So with the captaincy if it is your boat, you are the captain, you get the ship milestones and you are at the helm.

    Im assuming this is a problem more for people playing open crew or even discord lfc. I think it is a fair concern. I don’t think the solution should be to have an option to lock the helm for your use only but perhaps as the captain you could have the ability to take the helm from anyone’s hands while the others can’t do the same to you.

    Just saying if you're ever in a situation where a persons afk on the wheel you can always just throw a blunderbomb at them to knock them off.

    First off I love the idea of Captain being able to take wheel

    I don’t ever use discord or open crew but I do routinely help new players or play with my friends who on occasion do things in combat or other situations that have a huge negative impact on PvP or misc. other things. For example, lining up a shot and then using the cannons just for someone to steal the wheel and “help” by ruining any possible cannon shots you just lined up.

    Or in my personal experience, raising sails behind an enemy ship after I chainshotted their mast down, parking the ship behind them avoiding their broadside, and then going for a board and successfully killing the crew. Then getting one blundered when they come back, just to discover that the entire time you were boarding- your crewmate took the wheel, and decided to park your ship next to the enemy ship broadside, meanwhile, while you’re on the ferry your crewmate is running around like a chicken with his head cut off while the enemy crew pelts cannons into your ship- meanwhile your Morty is running around with a banana in hand, not returning fire, not repairing or bucketing, and has now caused your ship to be flooded to mid deck, just for you to spawn in and immediately be killed by a cannon ball and watch your ship sink as your Morty tells you that the enemy must be hacking.
