Just a thought about Private servers

  • FREE SERVER IDEA: You can have a nice private server to get into shenanigans with your priate buddies right, the world has a lot of extra PvE enemy spawns, more ships, more sharks maybe, all of that to fill the world out etc. The XP and money gains are reduced by a good chunk, say by 50% or 75% so it takes a lot longer than normal to progress normally and so on.

    PAID SERVER IDEA: All the previous before, However the paid server's XP gains aren't as drastically reduced, however they still aren't maxed out as if they would be in a normal world server. The gains are maybe about 30%-40%-50% reduced whatever seems appropriate. You can go on adventures and have a good ol' time drinking grog, throwing up in buckets, screaming when you get krakened and all other goodies that are featured in the game.

    I personally know at least 20 people who have asked for these specifically and I know all of us would be more than willing to pay for a private server service, and I have heard this from random crewmates time and time again since I have been playing which was from beta.

    "No Exp" will be given for any reason. No gold, No Rep.

    Just Mobs, Players and Ships.

    No; XP reduced by 100% (no gain whatsoever) or nothing. The devs have made this clear that they do not want progression without risk.

    So... pay to win? Not only is that against Rare's whole thing about no PvE servers, but also them saying that there wouldn't ever be any direct benefit to purchasing goods from the game, which having these servers would.

    0 XP gain on Private servers, or no private servers at all.

  • This is why I feel the custom servers will just be another area with a low % of players using it over time. Sure you will see players using it at first. Without progression its just going to be another low populated game mode.

    That is why they are targeted towards content creators who want to create scenes and special events. As far as the general population goes, no risk = no reward. It is doubtful the average player will access to their own private server. The game is absolutely playable without shutting ourselves away from the rest of the community.
