I think that as a new ship customisation you should have Custom Name Plates on ships It would be like 10k-20k on the ship customisation shop but once you have bought it you can change it constantly if you are at an outpost , I really think the community would like this as a nice small feature into the game.

It would also be nice if the ship’s name appeared for other crews when you get near enough, like the names of islands and sunken ships do as you swim to them. But I wouldn’t want 1/3rd of my screen’s real estate eaten up with the footer and banner that shows up for islands. Maybe just a little pop up like the one that appears when a crew member joins or leaves.

This is one of the many things people have asked for since launch but for some reason is incredibly difficult for Rare to do.Difficult to make time for? Sure. I would imagine it is something that is low on on the list of priorities. I highly doubt it is beyond their ability.
Mike did confirm in a panel at some expo that it is in the works but not any time soon..
