Mobile Cannons = Harder to Avoid PvP?

  • So I'm one of these PvE players that like to avoid PvP, and so far I've managed to get away from people that chase, but it seems they will be introducing mobile cannons based on that trailer. Not sure I like it, before, it took a lot of work for gankers to board, now it may become way too easy, especially for solo ones. Wish there was a countermeasures for this, it sounds too good.

Anyway, as a new player, PvP encounters so far have been quite toxic, and further focus on that gameplay makes me feel maybe SoT isn't for me. Time will tell.

  • Sea Of Thieves is a game about Risk Vs Reward. The higher the risk, the higher the rewards. If you are encountering a lot of PVP on High Seas is maybe because you are using an emissary or doing world events. Those are mechanics that engage players in combat. If your gameplay consists on doing High Reward stuff you will get attacked, no matter what they add to the game.
It seems they are adding a moving cannon in the next season, so it is all about learning how it works. Maybe, running would be the less viable option and other strategies should be considered when facing an enemy with those.
Anyways, if you are struggling with PvP and really want to complete all commendations, level up the factions, etc... you will need to improve your PvP knowledge. It is a PvEvP game afterall...

  • @vorpalicious Can I ask where you're getting this information? I couldn't find a season 16 trailer.

  • @capt-pilotes I understand all this, but running away (especially when solo) was always a very effective strategy, now it's going to be much harder, I am criticizing the idea of a mobile canon existing (if it's even that) I believe it's bad game design, not the overall game philosophy as a whole. They shouldn't implement this.

And don't even get me started on chain shots. Devs of this game have a strange sense of balance, and now this too? Seems they want everyone forced into unavoidable PvP.

So your criticizing something that might or might not be in the game, have not seen it used in game yet, don't know how it will work at all etc etc.

Geez talk about jumping the gun....

  • Possibly, we'll have to see how this plays out depending on rarity of cannon, possible placement. Bear in mind you potentially could be shooting back at them whilst running too.

  • Wish there was a countermeasures for this…

Face your cannon backwards and shoot at their ship. Fire chainshots, anchorballs, bone callers, firebombs etc. Anything that the chasers can do, you have the power to do too!

  • Now with the confirmation that cannons can face forward and backwards, this is going to be so much fun to fight other crews and be fought against.

  • “Please don’t add mobile cannons cuz I don’t wanna fight people…”

Umm isn’t that what the game is all about??

What's stopping you from shooting back at them using the same cannon? Also, record and report toxic players. Rare doesn't tolerate it, nor should you.

  • Hehehe. I knew these topics were gonna pop up right away.
Not much to be said or done. The meta is gonna change for the running team

But heck. According to the video….there is a very small tiny risk of using them it seems.
