So far I have seen several hours of game play. I have seen many of the voyages and some pvp. I was at one point desperate to play this game, but now I am not so sure about that. I feel like the devs are not paying attention to the important discussions about their game. Many videos and streams have talked about the fact that there is nothing in the game to do. You do voyages for treasure and get gold to buy cosmetics and pvp to steal other peoples treasure for gold to buy cosmetics, and that is it... The skill cap is low from what I have seen, and only 4 man teams??? The devs need to address these problems. I speak for many of my friends that have also been watching this game for a long time. We want to hear from the devs and see where this game is going. I am not going to buy this game until I get a response from the devs and they give answers.
I AM UNHAPPY WITH THIS GAME
@seizuresac this is only a beta with limited content for testing purposes and not a demo. Head to the official website for articles and videos explaining what's to come in March. I think you'll find it will have more than enough to keep you busy.
@souleaterst1ch
LOL I take it that this is your first beta. "everyone has their flavor" we don't know what flavor to call this game because there is nothing less than vanilla. $60 for a slice of pie($60 is the cost of a full game) idk about you but that's an expensive piece of pie... You should read more about this game. The devs have made very little progress with this game over the years. They have released almost all of the game features except all the cosmetics and boat customization.
@souleaterst1ch You actually don't know that this is a slice of the pie. All of the evidence is pointing towards this being like 80% of the game at launch. And it's also not fair to say it's not the game for him. He might love the core foundation of the game, but expects there to be a lot more of it. That's like telling someone who loves the Call of Duty formula that they just don't like a game in the CoD franchise, just because that hypothetical game only has 1 map and 1 gun. No, they like the formula still. It's just that there's virtually no content there.
@shadowstrider-7
I have looked at everything this game has to offer... There is not much... As i said when i posted this discussion. Voyages for gold to buy cosmetics. Pvp to steal gold to buy cosmetics. Only 4 man teams and a low skill cap. The devs have made the game with the fundamental of "no player will have an advantage". This extremely limits progression ingame. Your victories would come from how good you and your boat looks...@natsu-v2 ]
Thank you. I do love the core foundation of this game. I don't want a game with no content or progression. I have watched this game since it was announced, and the game hasn't gone very far. I also agree that at least 80% of the game will be there on launch.@seizuresac said in I AM UNHAPPY WITH THIS GAME:

Not who has the bigger gun, or the better weapon or who has unlocked the best gear. Its who has honed their skill the best at the core mechanics. I don't think its fair to say its a low skill cap. I think as a crew especially and individually there is a huge skill cap, because nothing will give you an extra edge in combat except for your skill/talent at the game.

I have looked at everything this game has to offer...I'm not sure about that... So you have seen what's actually in the beta, if you are unsure now, have a look at some reviews again when the game is released.
But did you even look at all the game had to offer? Explored the islands and caves, climbed hills and shipwreckes at the outposts, searched for some easter eggs, tested some uses for the explosive barrels? There are many things to do, it's a sandbox.@oneeyedkillah said in I AM UNHAPPY WITH THIS GAME:

Unfortunately, imaginary accomplishment and the feeling you get from it doesn't cater to egos as much as having a golden AK, or a big flag hanging a*s-end off your ship that says "King of the Sea A#1". I see both sides to the argument. COD is successful because it encourages the player to grind out matches and games, and make those trick shots for better guns and unlockables, streak rewards, banners and icons, etc. Some of it is purely cosmetic, and some of it isn't.
@oneeyedkillah
with such a low skill cap there is no skill or knowledge. Having a bigger gun doesn't mean you win, it means that you achieved something to get that weapon. You put in the time and skill in order to get that item. The core mechanics of this game are pretty simple watch a video. It has a low skill cap because there is no variation in play, everyone is on the same playing field. I think the pvp in the game is fun, but it's too limited.@sirliborius
There is no reason to explore unless you want more gold to buy cosmetics. Islands don't serve much of a purpose unless you need gold. You can go see what the island looks like and kill some skeletons. The game does look good and I wish they would put more incentive to explore. The way the game is now there is no reason to explore unless you want cosmetics.@seizuresac Have you ever heard of or seen any footage of a game called rocket league? The skill cap is unreal, insanely high in that game. And everybody starts every game on the same footing, it is based purely on your skill and honed talent at the game. Games can have simple mechanics, yet deep skill caps. Look at something like counter strike, in terms of shooters its quite basic in its core mechanics and its one of the highest skill cap shooters there is. Simplicity breeds higher skillcaps in my eyes cause you can't "pad" your skill with unlocks and weapons.
I have played the game extensively to know the difference between an experienced well oiled crew in the heat of battle vs a crew just getting started. Just about every battle I have gotten into has been unpredictable and different. The variation comes from the varying degrees of skill, communication, that your crew has and your opponents have. Also the random elements that get thrown into the mix (other ships, storms, attacking skeletons or your crewmates being drunk ect). Not by OP weapons or abilities.
In sea of thieves, your title, your appearance, your ship, your voyages, your items will showing off what you have achieved, the same as the gun in your example.
Guys who are defending this game. Litterally you have nothing to go on only the promises of the dev team. Even simple things like fishing and having fish in the sea have been so illusive in detail makes me very suspicious of them actually doing it. Its a slice of a stale pie which we have no information of what the rest of it is. The "golden age of piracy" and all this talk seems to be just talk as even the gold horders they did this big lore to try and make it seem more interesting than it actually is. Atm all I see if a cosmetic grind fest with 0 content in the terms of actual "story worth gameplay" as the devs has promised. Has anyone truthfully got a story from any alpha or beta that was fun? "Oh I got this really rare chest I got 3 times in a row and I cashed in for a dank hat." "Oh I killed this guy and sunk his ship for a coral normie chest. Only 10 more till I get a dank coat." Everyone is welcome to their opinion but I genuinely fear for gaming if people get excited about monotonous grinding for cosmetic items...
It's been literally 4 days for the beta.
And 4 days of beta complaints
I don't think there's a single company that would respond with a "oh you're totally right let's just make some big changes" after just 4 days of beta testing.I'm not saying I don't agree with some changes that have been brought up.
This game has an excellent foundation, with just a few issues. But calm down, your 4 days of play testing doesn't trump their months/years of working and tweaking systems.
Now if they completely go silent and refuse to change things that need it.
Then by all means, let them have it.@bigchickenbutt I get what you mean. However this is a AAA beta test when the realise is march 20th.
Its taken them over 2 years to even come to this stage.
So ik what you mean with the beta, but the beta for a AAA game should be way more polished than this is.
You look at any AAA game in the past 2 years and its been 80%-90% complete.
A beta is about stess testing but there is 0 reason why they took the content down. I personally think its because there actually isnt really anymore other than perhaps a few oddities like we witnessed the sniper rifle.@seizuresac said in I AM UNHAPPY WITH THIS GAME:
The skill cap is low from what I have seen, and only 4 man teams??? The devs need to address these problems.
It's not problems.
It's deliberate design decisions.
The low skill cap is what makes the game available for everyone to easily get into and enjoy. However, I can promise you that there is quite a difference between a ship crewed by newbies and a ship crewed by experienced players. Even though the skill required to understand and play the game is low, the skill required to be effective at sailing your ship and fighting other players is significantly higher and requires a lot of communication and team cohesion.
And only 4 man teams means you have to prioritize what you do on the ship. Are you repairing? Firing guns? Steering to avoid running aground? Operating sails? In my book having 4 men on the big ship is perfect mix between 'plenty of work to do for everyone' and ship not being too powerful when measured against the small ship.
How many players do you want on the ship? 8? 12? 50? 250?
Even with "just" 4 players it can be hard enough to communicate and organize in an efficient way. If there are 10 people all yelling orders, directions, chit-chatting, 10 year old kids screaming, mouthbreathers who didn't turn on push to talk and all other forms of audio "spamming" your headset it would be completely unplayable.
4 is a great number and keeps communication clear and keeps everyone busy on the boat.
Personally I would never join a boat with 15 people where it's near guaranteed that 8 of them would be Minecraft-kids screeching like banshees into the mic every time they manage to score a hit with a cannon.

Don't worry, cavemansamurai . I got you covered.
People post awesome experiences all the time on this forum. From the alpha and the beta.

From what I understand you didn't even play the game. You just watched videos or streams. There is absolutely no way to express your true feelings about this game, unless you play it! The physics of the ship in high wind and storms. The struggle to fight the waves and thunders and planks breaking from the hull. The sweat of being chased by two Galleons and evade them both with a Sloop, by yourself. Hold the helm, angle the sails, turn against the wind, fire cannons at different angles to confuse them. You make your own story. And if this doesn't convince you, I suggest you also watch the progression videos that Devs post regularly. Because my friend, you have absolutely no idea what is waiting for you in this game. Believe me. Absolutely no clue. And it's amazing. Here is a 7 min teaser.
@ghroznak I have never understood people wanting more than 4 players on the Galleon at once. Maybe 6 is a stretch but anything more than that would be chaos.
I've been in a few Xbox Live parties over the years with 8 people all playing the same game and it's a damn nightmare trying to say anything without someone else trying to talk over you or interrupting you.
And completely agree on the newbies vs experience when it comes to ships. I've seen new players in the beta that constantly crash their ships, don't position their sales correctly, don't use cannons right, and many other things.
Hell I managed to sink a Galleon with a Sloop the other night because the 4 player team was so disorganized. They were so focused on trying to kill me specifically that they didn't realize their ship was sinking until it was well beyond the point of no return. And the whole time I heard them all shouting at each other about what they should do.
@kaptenbloood I wouldn't assume what @SoulEaterSt1ch is saying is false... he has been playing in the Pioneer and Tech Alpha builds. So has seen a game far more content filled than the current closed beta.
I would please ask for your patience and turn your negativity away from scathing users who do not agree with you, as per the pirate code.
@musicmee Plz give me a break. I'v talked to players who have played alpha and so on. And the game files, everything is pointing in the same direction.
It wont help if this game world is bigger, 2 more factuions to do repetitive quests for and so on.
But we will see in a few weeks who was right=).
But plz dont fool ppl with "information" that dos not exist. That is just sinking this game even lower. And fact is, look at all the players rection, it's bad. Period. It's like 1 out of 100 that thinks this is a good direction. Rare has been unclear, otherwise we wouldent been having this storm.

What do you mean you looked at the game files, exactly? It's not like you already downloaded the content of future builds.
@kaptenbloood Ahhhh good :) Telling members they are wrong is not going to fix the lack of content, especially when the members you are telling are happy with the game as it currently stands based on what they have seen and want. If you have made up your mind and this is not the game for you, we will be sad to see you go, but there are a few other games out there in the sea which may take your fancy.
@gotgabriele I have not done that. But look on Redit. It's just part of it, but still what direction.
@musicmee Gee, this kind of comments. "its nit for you, go play somthing ells".
The thing you dont get is that if this game wont progress a LOT, it will die, sooner then later, and you and you fellow "fanboys" will be playing on your own.@kaptenbloood :( It seems nothing we can say can convince you...
Have you posted a list of content you would like to see so the developers can get straight to work on it?
What have you not liked about the beta so far?
Just a few questions so I can see what you are after... that way we may be able to see whats missing.
@kaptenbloood we are all dying. everything is on its way to the end. you could spend your time shouting nonsense and trying to convince everybody is wrong because they don't agree with you 100% or you could enjoy yourself.
If you can't enjoy yourself here, then the internet is a HUUUUGE place. (or, god forbid....play outside...read a book...)
The sooner you realise that some people enjoy this game as much as you like moaning about it, the better off everyone will be.
Unhappy people are always the loudest. However it doesn't mean you need to be obnoxious.
@musicmee Convince me of what?=) Stop telling the truth about this game and how Rare are fooling players?
Yes i have, a lot of them. Togheter with a lot of other players.
It's better if i tell you what i like. The sailing is fantastic! Love it!
The feeling of danger from other plyers! The graphics!
But that is it... i would love to be positive about this game, but it's hard.
Rare have made me and a LOT of other player think this will be somthing it wont. It will be a game for 12 year olds. And it will lsat for 6m up to 1 year. But i guess Rare have got there mony so...
