New Voyage Type: Merchant Ship Raids

  • The Idea:
    I was sailing with a friend and we were getting bored. I fell out of the boat near an island and I found a villainous bounty skull. I told my friend to turn around, but then we saw another ship. We abandoned the current quest we were on as well as the villainous skull to chase the ship. Why? Because in my opinion, as well as I assume many others, the feeling of raiding ships is unmatched. So I thought to myself, why don't we have a quest (don't know what faction) where your job was to raid merchant ships?
    How it would Work:
    Basically I was thinking this would be a pirate legend thing. You would get the assignment from the pirate legend hideout, and your job would be to intercept a shipment going from a certain island to another island at a certain time. While only pirate legends could get the assignments, other ships could still attack the ship. They would just have no clue when the ship would be sailing from the island, or at what time. The ship would be guarded by a new type of A.I. that I have wanted for a while, the Royal Navy, and would not change in difficulty depending on the ship attacking it (a sloop attacking it would have just as hard of a time as a galleon attacking it.) The merchant ship would be a new type of ship, possibly a frigate. You would attempt to raid the ship, steal the booty, and return it to the mysterious stranger. These would be fairly profitable, and would take about 1 hour to complete start to finish for an efficient crew.
    Frigates:
    Frigates would be a new type of ship available to players as well. It would be ideal for 3-4 players. A frigate is not designed for war, as it only has three cannons: one cannon on each side, and one at the back. What makes the frigate special is the vault. The frigate has a vault that can easily be accessed by any player, but for a player who is not a part of that crew they must break it open (30 consecutive seconds) or use a gunpowder barrel to open it instantly. The frigate is a pipe dream for me, as obviously the Merchant Ship Raids could be just A.I. galleons that are modified a bit.

  • Modified AI galleons which go from island to island randomly and can be attacked by any ship who sees it and decides to go after it? Wow, it's almost like that's already in the game in a form that doesn't break the lore by adding a navy!
