New Order of souls item - The Soul Flask

  • Not an overly piratey idea, but sometimes the endless skeleton hoards can be a little tiresome, specially when you're running a high level quest and because there's no reward for dispatching these ghouls it can feel a bit of a inconvenience rather than fun. So how about giving us an incentive to send these horrors back into the ground where they belong.

Perhaps the OOS could also want to give peace to these restless, tortured souls, and you are given an OOS radial item to do this - The Soul Flask (or other named item)

Every time your pirate lands the killing blow to a skeleton, their soul is absorbed by the flask. The flask would have a 500 soul capacity and would need to be emptied at a OOS tent once it's full. One soul = 1 gold piece and a fraction of a OOS % reputation

The more souls you collect, the more background whispering you can hear, and the brighter the flask glows. To give the PvP people something, you could also make it that if you deal the killing blow to another pirate by sword (has to be close range) your flask steals the souls that pirate has collected.

At least then when I'm running an Athena quest and endless hoards come to kill me I wouldn't mind so much and may even prolong the fight to gather more souls

I don't know if this should always be available. Maybe it's like the trinkets where you find it sometimes on the beach. It collects all nearby souls similarly to what you said, and that would make it easier to implement for pvp, people could steal it. Or maybe it could be a type of souls voyage, activate endless waves somewhere of a certain type to fill one up. It would be a cool edition no matter how its implemented though.

  • Interesting idea, but would need some extra work due to conflicts with the lore of the game.

    For instance...

Skeletons aren't just dead sailors, they are cursed sailors. Killing them doesn't release their soul from the curse, and removing said curse is no small feat.

With the Tall Tales, we are shown that it is possible to bind souls to objects and release them. This is not an easy task either as it requires the knowledge and powerful magic, and that was for a single soul per object, not hundreds! We are also shown that souls can be locked away in chests, but with the same restrictions as binding them to objects, powerful magic and only 1 soul per chest. These souls were also powerless human souls rather than a cursed skeleton, so I imagine that would be a difference as well.

This flask would have to be an immensely powerful relic, which I doubt there would be more than one of and definitely not enough for every pirate who sails the seas. Maybe they OOS could dole them out to a Master of the Order (50), but even a Master of the Order isn't able to transcribe the whispers from a Bounty Skull, so I am not sure they would be able to wield something this powerful.

We know certain objects can turn pirates into skeletons as well, so holding on to something that contains the souls of hundreds of cursed pirates would surely come with some negative side effects to whoever is nearby or holding it.

Not knocking the idea, just throwing some extra things to consider with your idea. Hope to see some more input on this one :)

  • @archangel-timmy Interesting points. I've only completed the 1st 3 tall tales. I like the idea of a negative effect. Could be similar to the Gold Hoarders Curse you could have a spreading skeletal form which would be a visual cue to others that you have a souls worth stealing.

I guess you could do a build up to the item release. Same as they did with Wanda and the cursed cannon balls. You know, how she slowly appeared to be changing form. You could have it rumoured that the OOS have worked out a way to miniaturise the magic used during the Tall Tales.

Perhaps it could be a Lvl 50 thing. Would add a nice bit of small post grind content.

  • this is an absolutely great idea id like to see something like this be a equipment item you always have, also id like if it could be emptied whenever not just when full so it be like turning in loot
