Hello all sailors and Captains. Do you consider that SOT is a Pirate vs Environment with Pirates on the horizon ready to steal and plunder your loot or help out or is it Pirates vs Pirates with the Environment out to send them all to Davy Jones locker? Please discuss your points of why you think it's one way or another.
Is SOT PvPvE or PvEvP? Tell us your theory.
@inboundbomb I guess I would say PvEvP just because I have way more interactions with skeletons than I do with other pirates for most Adventure sessions.
That being said, the whole idea of the game is to have player interaction. It doesn't necessarily have to be PvP. It can be co-op between two crews. Doesn't happen a whole lot anymore it seems but they make for some very fun sessions. It is amazing what this game can be when two crews meet that are open to PvP or cooperation.
I think my favorite memory from the game comes from when I first started playing and a galleon crew started recruiting other pirates. Telling them to join their crew or be killed. We got most of the server to cooperate on one ship. I'll never forget it.

I wished it was a Role playing adventure game! But yeah it’s just a PVP without telling everyone it’s mandatory to fight players as idbur lucky can avoid them for a few hours!

The answer can vary from session to session. Some days the Sea of Thieves seems like a hornet's nest of activity, and every ship you see tries to sink you. Other days it seems you have the seas to yourself, free to pursue whatever adventure strikes your fancy (or no adventure at all, if you like). You can hoist the Jolly Roger and be the scourge of the seas, or you can kick back and do some fishing. You can set off on a dramatic adventure to find lost lands, or raid a fort for gold and glory. You can do some intense voyaging in the Devil's Roar, or chill out doing cargo runs in the Shores of Plenty. The Sea of Thieves is what you make it. Sometimes the focus is on PvE, sometimes PvP, sometimes both, sometimes neither.

It's PvE with the chance for PvP.
The Sea comes first...even in the title.You 'might' interact with another player...but you WILL face the environment.

It's first of all a sandbox game.
Second it is a PvP game, because PvP is not restricted.
All sandbox games have Environment, so all sandbox games are PvE games with PvE content or do i miss a sandbox game without any PvE content???
Honestly i dont know one.
But not all sandbox games have PvP, so it's a PvP sandbox game what has for sure PvE like every other sandbox game has.

and a lot of PvPers seem to never have played a sandbox PvP game what is not about instant PvP or guaranteed PvP, if designed well.@WilbyMagicBear just to say, Sloopers who efficently hide and run and not offering loot are better PvPers than you are in this sandbox, if you are a PvPer.
What they do is to be prepared and have a good way to save their loot.
What is a form of sandbox PvP.
They login and start PvE, but they also do PVP in the way they do. You cannot opt out from PvP if you play. You automatically PvP in a PvP sandbox.
You maybe just arent able to see that.
I do PvP in a sandbox with open ffa PvP without the need of a single fight. You still played not only versus the environment, but also against other players who may want to kill and rob you. You didnt get catched? well played then, good PvP strategy you had or lucky you were.
But believe me luck is something what is Rare.
Some Sloopers i know are good sandbox PvPers and that means they can be bad ad combat or ship combat, but if they are good at planning, watching out, hiding and running they are viable sanybody PvPers. It's not Arena matchmaking and winning, it's more about surviving and keep going.You participate in PvP in this game if you like it or not if you do it active or nit, you participate in PvP by design and nature of the game.
If you do PvE this is a choice.
Edit: ok not completely correct because if random AI encounters, but mostly.
PvP is no choice here.
This doesnt mean you have to fight, but you have to be aware of your surroundings, mostly because of other players.
Here we are, you PvP.sea of thieves is an open world sandbox adventure game shared by other players who have a role of being just one of the many encounters in the game.
the game is not designed to make every one of these player encounters result in PvP. It does not guarantee rewards for fighting other players and it does not say how often you should encounter them. it simply says that they are always present and they have as much freedom as you do. with this said, players can choose to hunt other players on sight, and there will be nothing wrong with that. players are also free to choose not to fight and there wont be anything wrong with that either.
Its very simple, of the two, only one of those things causes loot to exist in the world.

It's PvE. It's not even P&P. The seas are just soloopers drifting around, doing errands, never interacting beyond an alliance flag.

Bruh it’s not a PVE mainly game until u can opt out of PVP have a guaranteed session where u do not run into someone, otherwise it’s just PVP with time in between fights

It's neither, it's a game that gives us the tools and mechanics and gives us the freedom to do with them as we please. Want to hunt giant squids? go at it, want to hunt ships, go at it, want to be Johnny Depp dressed as a pirate going about on a rowboat drunkenly shouting at everyone, you can do that.
It's this freedom that makes the game great and discussing if it's PvP or PvE first totally misses the whole point of this to be honest.
@itskingbertie I'm not saying your wrong or right. I just asked what people's perception of how they see the core of the game. You see it as a PvPvE as I see the game as a PvEvP. No need to get upset. In the end the game still has PvP and PvE and we all accept it. Again I was asking about how the core game works. Is PvP how you actually rank up and become legend if that is all everyone does?

@galactic-geek I have plenty of gold but I've never got bored of the game..... just lost all my crews. They got bored or interested in the new shiny that came out. I still have to finish the Tall Tales. Lol
