Where are all the cosmetics????

  • Literally every other popular game around understands the gamer community loves its cosmetics. Apex Legends has been out less than a month and already has more cosmetics. Does nobody else care about this? Is there another thread on this topic? Please for the love of Davey Jones Locker add some more stuff into this game. I understand Arena is coming but still. Is it truly too hard to do? Curious....

  • @xxrogxx We want more, but as usual we wait.

  • I agree with the fact that for a game based on linear progression, it has really poor variety of cosmetics. But I'd prefer have more new mechanics to make the game more fun than new cosmetics.

  • @pwarier Why cant we have both?

  • I don't know why we have to wait so long for a recolor, most other games game 20 colour variations of the same designs but Rare aren't getting the picture

  • @ducklol1337 because most of these designs are unique and not recolors except for 6 sets of clothes which are just recolors. The sets being sea dog, sovereign, and admiral

I mean they are hardly unique, the only reason they aren't recolors is each as a very small decal, I mean it's basically the same designs if you ignore that tiny little decal on the front of the boat...

  • @ducklol1337 I’m talking about both ship customizations and player

  • For a game that has very little end game activity you would think this would be a priority..... We basically do the same missions over and over for PvE Where is the incentive to keep playing PvE? I love PvP too. That's not the issue here. Hell even some "recolor" would be nice. SOMETHING.....ANYTHING

They should have a team of 3 busting out skins for everything all day every day and release an update where there are at least 10 extra skins for absolutely everything, half the PLs I play with have all the cosmetics and are sitting on millions with no cash sink

  • @ducklol1337 if this does happen a bunch of the work on breaking open that noncontent bubble would diminish as much of the focus would switch from the game and it’s mechanics to cosmetics

  • @weststormborn are you suggesting that RARE doesn't have enough money to hire 3 people to solely create skins?

  • We need more legendary stuff, and more update for legends!

  • We need also a Mega update only for cosmetics.

In a game that the real goal is make money to spend on cosmetics, the store are empty.

We need a lot of cosmetics also they need to be locked by level, commendations and trading company.

  • I bought them, they are all mine.

  • @xxrogxx you mean a game that earns all their money through cosmetics actually ensures they have a way of income to ensure further development and the ability to pay their team?

Also, most of the cosmetics in BR games are merely color themes, that don't differentiate a whole lot from the base design. Unlike the unique looking sets that are crafted for Sea of Thieves, which have 1 to max 3 different color variants. Therefore just making a simple count is not really a valid method of comparison. The differences in development time is not even remotely the same.

Not saying I don't want more cosmetics, but it is not a valid comparison method at all that you are using.

  • I have a theory, although it may not be too popular with some people. I think the lack of cosmetics, both ship and clothing, is the fact that the bulk of them were supposed to be purchased in the game store for real money.

We were supposed to get a game store a couple of months after the game launched but it was delayed due to supposed player backlash at the lack on content and a year in we have yet to see that store.

I mean it wasn't just going to be pets sold there...

I think it is a very specific choice they made to prefer a more diverse look through design than just providing different color themes of the same items.

  • @xxrogxx Because they look slow at creating stuff. I mean cosmetics are not the hardest things to create in a game but they still release so few after long wait. So if it takes that much ressources for them, better put that effort on something more worth (imo).

  • @ducklol1337 linear progression with no cash sink, that is a huge problem. SoT’s economy feels like an afterthought, and at this point it’s beyond repair. Everyone owns everything, sitting on tons of cash. I understand it will get better but man, it seems like the developers can’t keep up with the players.

I’m still enjoying rocket league’s new cosmetics and that game has been out for a long time.

  • Hopefully there will be better looking clothing for legends. The Ghost set looks like a circus clown outfit and the purple set looks like a tacky bellman uniform. The Forsaken jacket looks like a smock or apron. Would be nice to have move over jackets and vests to show off tattoos and scars without going shirtless. Glad did not go with a female pirate and end up with an Ace bandage as a choice.

Better colors would be nice or better yet, add a dye system for individual customization. Also add jewelry. Great need for better fitting clothes and hats. More than anything just please add better looking items.

Would say the hold back has been they cannot sell then in a cash shop. Hopefully a cash shop will never come and make it worse without spending real money instead of in game gold and doubloons.

  • I say again... We need more updates and cosmetic for LEGENDS

Maybe we will get sets with shirts instead of just jackets next time.

  • @xxrogxx Apex is free and you only buy cosmetics and characters correct? I could see why respawn would want to focus cosmetics over new experiences. Rare gets nothing from a new cosmetic set but instead they get an influx of new players when they release new big updates. That's most likely why it's slow even though it can suck at times.

  • @starquest Apex was the most relevant example as it is the most recently released game to have major success; it has consistently been the top played and viewed game on Twitch. However, on release, Apex already had more skin variants available as random drops from FREE loot boxes earned from simply playing the game. I would give RARE a pass, if there was a consistent influx of new content, aside from cosmetics. The end game is specifically designed for players to grind for cosmetics. I love the fact that we can create our own story each time we log on. THIS is the reason I continue to play; it doesn't change the fact that the system currently designed is fundamentally flawed. Honestly, a big part of me feels like the people defending a lack of cosmetics in the game are actually RARE employees commenting on this thread....

  • I’ve always thought they missed their shot with how they did cosmetics from day one. Most pirates would collect trinkets or clothing from their travels and exploits. This is what SoT need in my opinion.

Completing commendations should reward a specific item. So a player can show of multiple accomplishments with their outfit instead of just one title above their head.

Even make cosmetic sets that fit each region on the map and that are connected to the largest islands. No one goes to plunder valley. So make a washed up bottle or parchment give you a riddle that leads to a small chest or dead pirate and you loot one cosmetic. Have a random chance of a key drop from skeletons you fight and it unlocks a prison cell that’s deep within the islands.

This would give the game a more adventurous feel and a sense of accomplishment.

I'd settle for just some lazy recolors, that mustn't be hard to do!!!!

  • @xxrogxx just curious have u bought everything now

    Quality over quantity

  • @xxrogxx youre not wrong for a game where your progression is purely cosmetic there should really be alot more.
I think they should add a bunch of cosmetics locked behind commendations. They dont even have to be sets, they could just be single cosmetics.
I had a post a little while back
    New Commendation/ Cosmetic Ideas
Kind of a 2 birds 1 stone idea, give us more to buy, by giving us more to do.

We actually had quite a few recolor options upon the game's release, but many players complained about how many of them were too similar. It's actually why we have less variety now, as after said complaints, many items were removed (it's why you don't see some complete weapon or ship sets). Why Rare decided to do this, rather than just recolor them, I still don't understand, but I don't think we ever will. We can only hope that they will either a) eventually add them back into the game, or b) rework them and/or other newer items to stand out better in future updates.

  • Stop being arrogant. Rare is a very busy company and probably doesn’t have time to add new cosmetics into the game. Haven’t you noticed the new sea dog gear that came a month ago. They are adding things into the game.

Pull your tongue out mate, sympathizers like you are why the devs have no drive to get stuff done
