  • If by this you mean pay real money for anything other than cosmetics NO NO NO NO NO.

  • @sailorkek im not even sure on that to be honest. I mean the game is based on grinding gold for skins, if they introduce paying real money for skin like features, then why should I grind in the first place... :)

  • @dottyrossie I aleady hate the doubloons for levels, I get that you earned them yourself but it still feels cheap to me.

  • @sailorkek yeah same, just bought myself to pirate legend... never really seen in games before just bad mmos

  • Parrots will be available as pets. That was let slip during one of the devs’ weekly play streams.

  • @surveyorpete oh nice! I should watch them more :)

  • I will say it again , Rare as lost it ..

they ruins the gameplay with the last update , they try to hide the players number going down ( due to this poor and despicable update ) with a " invite friends " weeks so they can try to get the most casual players happy about the awfull change to invite their friends wich might have similar interest , then try to recruit these low level players .. then introduce micro transaction to the game so they dont have to " grind " they will buy their way into " Looking good " with real money ... and god know the most casual and low skills are the one who spend the most $$$ to have their way in ..

  • I really love how most of you claim microtransactions are going to be gameplay affecting items like buying levels or weapons without a single piece of evidence to back it up. Where you guys pulled this nonsense of is beyond me, maybe fomr the same place you guys pulled the belief that having more loot in your ship makes you slower, this kind of fallacy.

The only confirmed microtransaction we are getting is pets, that are merely cosmetic and don't affect gameplay in any way shape or form.

Since before the game was released, it was said that pets would be a microtransaction. Not sure why you think you have figured something out here.

If you want a pet, hopefully beyond a "free" base pet... then you buy it. That is how they plan to support this game in the future... unless you want to keep buying it in the form of expansions and updates.

  • @urihamrayne none of us said that

  • This is very inaccurate information, in terms of the history of pets... Pets were supposed to be released in an update after launch but with so many ppl complaining about content in the game they rescheduled everything and shelved pets for later... and pets was always said to be obtained via microtransaction

  • hey all i want is a giant turtle that i can ride. ofcoarse he needs to be slower than a rowboat but just as big or bigger than a rowboat. if they add this i would pay 15 dollars for it

  • @dottyrossie

Ahoy there, there was a lot of discussion as well as articles about microtransactions way back in February, possibly as a response to the loot crate fiasco somewhere else cough EA cough.

At the time Rare gave us plenty of information around their intentions for microtransactions, how you might be able to purchase them and the types of items that might be included.

"Our focus at launch [is] on a great game experience. When we deliver this first major update, that's when we'll turn on the ability for players to spend money optionally.

"We thought long and hard about what's right for our game experience, and the key thing we think is that it has to add to the fun, social nature of the game. So anything in this area will not impact power or progression, and you'll always know what you're getting - so that means no loot crates."

Neate explains that there will be opportunities to earn paid currency through normal play. While the plans for how this will happen aren't yet final, he suggests you could find items in the game world, or receive it as a reward after high-level quests.

Beyond that, Rare's looking to include potions that can alter you cosmetically - like a draught that turns your character model old for a certain amount of time. The mission statement is that microtransaction items have "emotional value, not mechanical value."

As for why the game has microtransactions at all, Neate puts it down to the increased costs of running a game that will continuously add content beyond launch

SEA OF THIEVES WILL ADD MICROTRANSACTIONS AROUND 3 MONTHS AFTER RELEASE

    Feb 13th

There are a number of other good articles as well and while these are older, it doesn't sound like this core premise has changed at all.

  • @katttruewalker wow thank you so much for the detailed response, will look for other articles :)
