New Shops...

  • I remember that at the release of SOT many pirates made comments about the deserted shops at each outpost. However, since that early stage, the idea of new shops has faded from the forums and sailed away from public view. I think that this needs to change. I hereby propose an idea for two new shops to grace the sea. First of my two shopkeepers is a sort of witch or warlock who would reside atop the order of souls. The shop would have a creepy ambiance and would be dimly lit. The centerpiece of the shabby shack would be a large bubbling cauldron. The purpose of these mysterious individuals would be to control the creation of potions amongst the sea of thieves. For example, the shopkeeper may send requests similar to, "Bring me a snipping of ancient seaweed, a marvelous conch shell, an incredible amethyst from the deepest caverns, and a bucket of spring water from Marauders Arch." In exchange the player might receive a potion of water breathing or something along those lines. These new shopkeepers would open the door for potions and therefore add life to the empty stores whilst adding variety to fights amongst the sea. Moving on, my second idea would be for a Bait Shop (some kind of fishing store). Within this store, players would come to buy all things fishing related, whether that be new hooks, different baits for different types of fish, new fishing rods, and even information as to where to cast your line. These shopkeepers would once again bring a new surge of life and variety to each island whilst also opening the door for fishing. Another kinda weird idea I have for these Bait Shops would be for each owner to have there own prized fish mounted on the wall. Each fish would be different and if the player decides to talk about the fish on the wall, the shopkeeper would continue talking about their great fish story for up to 5 inescapable minutes. Overall I think that new stores are something that maybe shouldn't be a top priority, but I'm hoping that by posting here I will bring them into the light once more.

  • @krakenattakin Hmmmmm. I like them. But you gave me a bit of inspiration. What about some new mysterious witch that assigns new quest types. But instead of picking quests to put down on your table, you walk in the door and she verbally tells you a tale of another crew who's fate is unknown and she instructs you to go an investigate for your rewards. She gives you coordinates for their last known heading and you head out that way only to encounter the meg, kraken or skelly ships that took down the other crew, spawning only for your ship as part of this quest. You battle them to get the normal rewards and a bottle that tells the tail of their fate. Or if you really wanted to a bottle that tells you where to head to next. Something along the lines of we fought the kraken but had to retreat, heading east to the nearest island. This could either end at the next island or become kind of a scavenger hunt/investigation. That once done you find the final bottle with the fate of the crew and return to that mysterious new quest giver/witch to inform her of what you find to receive your reward.

    Apparently, in very early (pre-release) versions of the game, the shop above the OOS shack was a Potions Shop.
