Solo (COG)ship with one Cannon that can change angle. SEE DRAWINGS

  • New solo, one cannon shipdesign. The name Cog comes from a sort of ship.
One cannon with ~270° horisontal angle in the front so you can shoot sideways and foward. One upper front deck. One rear upper deck. One bottom deck with indoor storage in thé front and rear. Open in the middle, easy solo bail.
Smaller than the sloop, better turning, a bit slower in head wind.
Please comment and give your opinion!
The drawings are s****y but they give a basic idea.
The turningspeed of the cannon must be tweaked. overall i dont see it being a overpowered ship since it is solo.
Did not spend a lot of time on time on this 😁

    I can tell. 😅

Simply having a forward-facing cannon is OP...

  • @galactic-geek
Dont Think its op since it's a solo ship:)

  • Did they already use shipmortar or artillery boats back in pirate age? Could be enough to shoot pirates to a island or to keep a distance maybe ^^

  • @ruigtand-nl
They used it at the same time as They used the cursed cannonballs :) allthough I dont mean it as a mortar, just a normal cannon which you can turn from left to right

  • @new-world-clogs
The adjustment of the cannon is not supposed to be very fast, but it could make solo battle a bit more deadly.

  • @sharktoothjake Forward facing cannon on any of the ships is OP - would mean you could fire while chasing and remain outside the firing arc of the ship ahead of you. Nope.

  • Think about it - sloop has 1 sail, 2 cannons, and up to 2 players; brigantine has 2 sails, 4 cannons, and up to 3 players; the galleon has 3 sails, 8 cannons, and up to 4 players. This means that with logic following the pattern above, the boat you are looking for has no sails, no cannons, and only 1 crew.

Guess what? We already have that - it's called a rowboat. It has no sails; no cannons; can fit 1 crew (and 3 additional passengers); is completely undetectable by kraken, skelly-ships, megs, AND island cannons; hardest to spot by other pirates; is reasonably fast; can turn on a dime and stopped instantly; can be placed upon beaches; never needs to be repaired, bailed, or anbchored; and doesn't sink by filling up with water!

Of course, all of these advantages do need to be balanced - it requires constant rowing; has no navigational chart; has limited supply storage; has no additional ammo or grog; it cannot be used as a spawn point, or used to create "official" alliances, or be customized in any way, shape, or form; and it's easily sunk by rocks, docks, and well-placed shots.

Seems perfect, if you ask me. 😅

Personally , I wish you could choose a variation of this on the main menu - just add an ammo crate (left of supply crate), a mini-keg for grog (right of supply crate), a small flag-pole for alliances (behind supply crate, on the back), a small navigational map (on central board of boat), and of course allow for respawns, and no additional passengers. I can picture it being used in an alliance as a supply runner between allies' larger ships. Like with a regular rowboat, it can be docked to other ships to better facilitate social interactions. It would be called a dinghy.

  • Solo or not, a 270 Degree firing radius is broken. Allows side shots as well as full chase cannons. The whole point of side cannons in a video game setting, is to force players to expose their vulnerable point when fighting other ships. Now add to the point of being chased. When your chased you can already drop kegs as well as set your boat on a straight course and attempt boards. Double sails to make it faster added on top that. You aren't trying to make a solo ship, but a sloop on steroids.

Sloop already is a fine solo sailing ship, everything you need is already available within seconds when controlling the ship. Anchor, Sail, and wheel are all contained within the same area. The only slightly far off ship tool is the cannon, but that is barely far away.

Plenty of solo players already due perfectly fine with a sloop, maybe its time to learn from them. The sloop was already designed with solo play in mind.

Thing is that this is a one person ship, hard to shoot, run back and angle sails and turn the rudder and run back to the cannon. Also easy to board the ship if you're sitting in the front. You gain an adjustable cannon but you loose the 2 side cannons. Think it can be balanced.

  • @nabberwar
I do fine with sloop in battle, but the cog is supposed to be a smaller solo ship, harder to spot. Hard to keep check on your boat at all time on the large Islands.

  • If the new solo ship has a cannon, it has to be at the back of the ship and something like 90° angle - so that you can shoot at people chasing you, but it's hard to use offensively.

The solo ship I'd like to see has crates instead of barrels, no anchor, no wheel, just one sail that controls both speed and diretion. The wind would not change it's speed.

Except you never lose side cannons, because your forward cannon has the sides within its turn radius.

  • @nabberwar
You have to turn it around and no one sais it turns fast.

  • @new-world-clogs Or you have to chase someone. The challenge now with ships is that you must, either, gain or turn away in order to fire on your target. With this suggestion, you’d have a ship that wouldn’t have to do either.

  • It's an interesting idea; I don't think a front-facing cannon is inherently overpowered, or at least there are ways to make it work. I agree that it shouldn't also shoot to the side. But if its front-facing, you can't run away and fight at the same time. It would force you to choose one or the other. Maybe a good work-around would be having it fixed to point straight ahead, so you can only move it up or down, not side-to-side. That would weaken it enough, perhaps?

  • @new-world-clogs From OP:

One cannon with ~270° horisontal angle in the front...

It wouldn’t just fire straight ahead.

    1. The game isn’t intended to be played solo and the devs consider solo play “hardcore mode.”

    2. A skilled solo slooper in this “hardcore mode” can sink a Galleon or a Brig - I’ve done so, myself.

There is no reason to create a dedicated solo ship. The Sloop works as that ship and has done since before release... and it works.

As described, the ship would be OP. Being able to fire as you chase is OP.
