If You Are Trash, Don't Talk Trash :P

  • Silly title; please forgive me.

Now, no one should talk 'trash'. A bit of banter can be alright (especially a little bit of pirate talk, to add to the fun experience of the game - pirate voice not required).
Otherwise, just play the game, have fun, be a good sport (even if you're being a completely immoral murderous pirate - good on ya!). Have your competition, and smile afterward, win or lose. It's just a game and your minor achievements within the game don't make you great outside of it.
However, if you are a player seeking PvP and like to talk trash, haha, please make sure your game is good enough to back it up. Still, don't actually talk trash. And, especially, do not be rude.

My wife and I had just finished up her 5 Gold Horder Voyages in the Devil's Roar (she's been slacking, and finally decided to hop on and get those done). She was solo slooping them, before I joined her. We made quick work of it, actually.

While we were approaching Morrow Outpost, we saw a sloop with a Reaper's Mark, heading towards the outpost as well.
We were done for the day, but we knew we could unload the treasure before they would arrive, so we decided to just do that and see what happens before we log out.

We sold everything but one skull (A Hateful bounty skull we found on the shores) before the Reaper's Mark sloop rammed into our sloop.
Okay, interesting strategy for attacking an empty ship, haha, but now we know that they came to PvP, haha.
Not being worried about defending the boat or anything, I swam to my sloop and grabbed the skull and turned it in (my wife was still on the island when they arrived, and headed back to the boat to cover me while I took the last of the loot). Sure, I was a bit torn about defending the boat, or just taking my loot, but we were decidedly done for the day, so I made that decision (it was time to snuggle up and continue watching The Haunting Of Hill House!!). :D

    PAUSE
Now, we could have been prepared... and we could have decided to meet them head-on and possibly take their loot, instead of doing what we did... but we didn't want to. I was hoping they were just working on Reaper's Mark Voyage Commendations. shrugs
    RESUME
    :D
Anyway, my wife was killed while she gave me cover (she really does not care for PvP, but fully understands, and accepts, that it is part of the game - no worries!).
Then I came back and landed an Eye Of Reach shot on one them.
He said something like, "Awwww, where's your boat?? Is it gone??? Awwww!!"
So, I replied, "Haha, Oooohhhh, congratulations, you sank our ship, but all the treasure is already gone and we're done for the day!".
To be honest, I don't think highly of pirates that automatically attack other sloops, especially ones that attack parked sloops, but I understand it situationally, and it's not grief'ing or anything - the seas be free! So, my congratulations was, indeed, fully sarcastic. I tend to only PvP with people ready and willing to engage - but that's just me being a nice pirate.

The same attacking pirate (I use the term lightly) called back, "Ooohhh, you were done for the day? Well, you're still a F - ignorant-derogatory-word-for-h*********s) - T!".
I told him he, "shouldn't use such words; it'll get you banned", as I shot him and slew him with my cutlass, while their sloop also sank. (I couldn't believe it... they didn't repair their own sloop. I didn't even need to do anything further to it for it to sink).

His crew-mate (wisely) remained quiet, as he (feebly) attempted to kill me, but utterly failed and fell to my blade, as well. During my attacks, I asked him "What sort of friend do you have??", and lastly, I said, during his death throes, "Do NOT talk trash, if you ARE trash! If you are trash, DO NOT TALK TRASH!".
(I can't help it - I get a little pumped when PvP-ing. And I get angry when people toss out bigoted terms - or, really, any offensive attempts at insults when playing a game - never mind when playing it poorly).

OF COURSE, they had NO loot of their own. How sad. And a bit disappointing as well, lol.

My wife, re-spawned with our sloop on a nearby island, looked at the map and reported to me that their ship re-spawned at an island just two squares (or so) to the south-east from me. So, I hopped onto my rowboat to hunt them down - strictly for one reason... I wanted to see what the loud mouth pirate's (again, I use the term as lightly as can be) name was, because I did not catch it, and wanted to report him.

Pathetically enough, as I was rowing towards them, they exited the game. sad trombone

I wish there was a way to get a list of names of pirates you encountered (not just your own crew-mates), after the fact.

I need to set up shadow play too. I imagine video & audio evidence would be required.

Anyway... don't be like the nameless fool that attacked us.
Have a good time out there, and remember that others are trying to have a good time as well. Attack, if that's what you want to do, but be friendly despite it.
    And never use bigoted language.
Lastly... get gud scrub. (lol, kidding!)

  • @pdt-mindstream Just be glad you encountered another ship and other players, I keep getting server merged because I'm the only one on the server sadly :(

  • @algaram
Weird. I had nothing but packed servers all weekend.

  • @pdt-mindstream Yeah i don't know how the merges work, I honestly couldn't find any other ships and merged multiple times, I sat at a skull fort for over an hour and no one came. i did come across a couple solo sloopers lol even stole an athena from a solo slooper that was fun but not packed servers from what i saw on the east or west coast

  • Yeah, there were 3 galleons on one server on Saturday. A brig and a sloop at the same time as well.

    Nice job with the Athena's!

The server mergers have seemed strange, to me, lately. I'm not 100% positive they are working as intended. They may be, but I'm not certain.

PMSL Naturally, what else was there for you to do but row? lol
Too bad you didn't have a passenger playing "flight of the valkyries". :o)

Yeah mate we've had our fair share of that type too.
One in particular was swearing and calling out derogatory names in the voice of Elmo. Including the word you mentioned.
Although that guy made me laugh when he stayed in character to say "Uh Oh" before they sunk. lol

  • @pdt-mindstream No audio or video things needed to get them reported and punished.
Sure it helps but i have spoken to the MS support and they said just report them and they will look into it.
And i have encountered alot of pirates i sunk that called me a noob, f**, g** and other nasty words when i killed them.
I was at a fort with my crew and each and everytime we got into combat with another galleon they (the galleon crew) said fa**** and p**** each and everytime i sword fighted with them. -
So i got tired of it and told him: You need to be more calm and learn new words.
That made him alot angrier and completly nuts thought.
One of them were quiet so i message the quiet one and said that he should get credit for not being like his crewmates.
He told me: "Well they are good, so they can trashtalk like that...but thanks for the credit though"
But he said: "I will talk to them" - And i was like: "Sure you will mate haha" :P

  • @pdt-mindstream i guess you can easily use mixer to stream from pc and xbox as well, in your mixer option you can choose to save your streams for and up to two weeks with the basic free account. Then from your video history you can re-watch them and even download if needed. We are using mixer because is mutch easier and don't need any setup. From the game you can win+g keys to open the menù and start the strem from there or even better win+alt+b will start the strem straight away. Hope this help

  • @pdt-mindstream On xbox there is a list called Recent Players u can find him in there.

Dont know how this is on PC. But i reckon if its on Xbox it should be somewhere on PC aswell.

  • @pdt-mindstream That was an entertaining read.

I 100% concur. I enjoy PvP, against both willing and unwilling opponents (I only go after the unwilling if I know there'll be a payday)

Never talk trash. Never, ever. If I'm attacked it's all happy voices, hellos and "nice shot, little to the left, there you go that's the spot! etc."

Any pirate that's ever met me on the seas should know, there's absolutely no salt to be mined here.

This is the best strategy for two reasons:

    1. I've made friends with decent PvPers who have attacked me by showing that I'm a good sport and can take it just as well as I dish it out.

    2. Trolls, who only want to harass, lose interest really quickly when they can't get any salt out of you and you appear to be actually enjoying yourself thanks to their actions.

Win or lose it's a game.

If I'm going out robbing folks I want to make it as fun for them as being robbed by an overweight and elderly pirate can be.

If I'm being robbed then I won't let them rob me of my dignity.

  • I should mention that he repeated that word a few times before I defeated him.
It wasn't the best of stories. And it's a shame, because I had so much fun over the weekend (and on Monday), but this was the one story I came to type up. Not that it was entirely negative (felt good to defeat them, and I thought it was kind of funny, overall). I just felt like getting it out AND I wanted to make sure there wasn't a way to retrieve his name, after the fact.

  • @solestone563412 said in If You Are Trash, Don't Talk Trash :P:

Trash is trash. You'd might as well ask a fly to stop landing on your food.

    Sadly true!
Although, I don't mean to call them trash people, just trash players... sadly, his words did reveal the former as well, heh.

  • Trash talk is basically saying "You're better than me, good on ya." but in gamer lingo. Has never been accepted, but has always been understood. Kind of like back in the day when people said "You're hacking!" was the ultimate form of compliment.

  • I personally don't mind being trash talked, I kind of enjoy it. It means my action had merit; it validates what I did. That being said I don't encourage the trash talk, nor do I troll/sink for no reason normally.
When someone is spitting hateful vitriol about my character or personality based on my actions in game, it makes me smile as there is no reason to be actually offended. I then calmly and rationally explain my actions (even if its just "for fun"), and then explain how they can avoid what happened to them in the future. While this normally just enrages a person further, it is all apart of the fun for me.

We had an encounter with a solo player who tried to steal a chest from our galleon, we proceeded to kill them and then sink their ship. I saw them later in Davy Jone's locker, and they were spitting hatred at me there.

For some reason our quests seemed quite aligned island wise, as we proceeded to bump in to them another 5 times, sinking them each time (sometimes him coming at us on the offensive, and sometimes us going after him).

On the last battle we had boarded his ship while it was currently sinking, he had calmed down a bit and asked politely why we kept sinking him when he was solo questing. We explained how he tried to steal our chest, and both us and him were initiating the battles. We killed him one last time, repaired his ship for him, and sailed off on our quest.

Without the passion that he had, which caused him to spew forth the devil's words, it wouldn't have been half of fun a time.

  • Just finished a quick session to get the last of the ashes cargo commendation when a delightful brig-full of players decided to impart their "wisdom".

My sister and I were on our way to Ruby's fall and we were passing a brig with the default colours and all the crew were basic attire with no titles. We didn't care for them so we ignored them... until they suddenly turned into us.

After missing their cannons they careened into Flintlock Peninsula and we repaired our ship and turned around. We spent an hour chasing/fighting them; they'd try to sink us, miss horribly and take a load of damage themselves. We could never quite catch them as the wind was never in our favour for long but with one last shot near the outpost they tried to sink us and failed.

As their ship sank two of them swam up to us and typed the message "You missed out on our loot." and proceeded to call us "N00bs", "Loosers", the N-word and homophobic slurs. I replied to them with the summerised version of the following points.

1 - You attacked us first and we wanted to just sink you - and we did.
2 - We never got onto your boat so we didn't know you had anything.
3 - We're both pirate legends with at least 700k each.

We never wanted (or knew of) their treasure, we wanted their ship and we got it.
This is why recent players need to be fixed (on the system not in this game) so we can report these foul-mouthed children.

It is there on PC and you should be able to see the names of all the pirates you encounter.
I can only speak from my experience on PC, but that Xbox App for PC is just a pile of garbage, so sometimes it takes a long time for the "recent player" list to update (it takes a long time for everything in general... it´s really NOT good). If you remember his name roughly, check the list again now.

  • @pdt-mindstream @CommodoreMerlin

A bit late to this but I also usually find I'm able to find 'recent players' if I use the link in this post about how to report a player, it comes up on a webpage where I can never get the list to populate on the xbox app -

    https://support.seaofthieves.com/hc/en-gb/articles/360000779227-How-to-report-a-player

  • I'm telling you, I check Recent Players and the only players that show up are ones that were on my crew. Including through that web page.
Not sure if/why it'd be different for me vs others, but I have checked multiple times (and that is throughout the entire life of this game, so far, since launch).
    Hrmmm...

  • yah i don't like it either. sometimes i solo sloop and nothing is more infuriating than getting barely beaten by a gang of trash talkers haha. i know i could take them all one by one but with two or three sniper shots i dont stand a chance. i did out do a galleon the other week that was a bunch of noob trash talkers trying to hunt me lol. they ended up begging me to leavve them alone . i just kept saying ''mercy' on the megaphone haha

  • @katttruewalker

Thank you once again for this link to recent players.

I had it bookmarked but a Windows update rendered my OS virtually useless so I had to re-install Win 10 again, losing my favourite bookmarks.

Dang you just keep on giving, even when you aren't trying. lol

    Much appreciated. :o)

  • @pdt-mindstream aye I would NEVER do something like that but I do pvp some times when me crew wants to

  • @katttruewalker That reminds me of how I was never able to report someone to Xbox directly through the Xbox App. Always fails and I tried countless times.

I think this piece of coding (more like coded t**d) is to support PC players who want to play Xbox (Microsoft) Games but to push them towards buying a console.

  • I really don't understand how some are saying it shows non-crew members, because my recent players history shows from recent to far back, and none of them are anything other than players that were on my crew.
Of course, I also do not receive game invites, so maybe these things are tied together somehow? Perhaps I should reinstall the xbox app and see if it changes anything.

  • What bothers me more than trash talk, is when people deny being the aggressor. I've had a dozen or more experiences where somebody attacks me/my ship, I fight back or even kill them, then I just keep hearing them yelling "Why are you attacking us" or "What did we do to deserve this".

My most recent memory of this was when a brigantine pulled up beside me, 1 player hopped onto my ship and attacked me with his cutlass, then when I hit him back he yelled to his crew "He's aggressive! Kill him quickly!" What was most surprising was that I managed to kill all 3 of them and sink their ship, which I've never managed to anyone else before.
