Price in Brazil

  • Hello Sea of Thieves and staff. I live in Brazil and i'm here to ask to you guys look at the price of the game that is currently R$199,95 (currency of Brazil). Here in Brazil our minimun salary is R$897,00 (we receive payments MONTHLY) so as you see its almost impossible to pay this price for the game. =(
Maybe you guys can think of a possibility to make a promotion to help the people here to acquire the game. Thanks.

  • We got it rough, the latest sale was like R$17,00 off, not even a dent at the price which is a huge NOPE in south american countries, either your game is free or you get no audience here.

  • Boy and I thought 80$ was bad here in Canada.

  • In euro thats a minimum 200 euro a month? 40 euro for a game?

  • @hayden-almeida Check ebay. It's $19.99 in Canada now. Sure they'll pop up cheap enough for you to purchase online somewhere.

  • man do I love other national currencies :)

That's like $5 USD isn't it? How is our Loonie doing now? Probably bad.

  • @hayden-almeida

I know it doesn't solve the main issue, but the game comes with Game Pass, which I am guessing is also available in Brazil.
It's not at all a solution, but possibly an option.

  • @piratecraggy
Expensive too, its like paying 35US$ per month.

  • @Hayden-Almeida Dang this is absolute madness.

To help emphasize this situation I took the liberty of checking out the current exchange rate.

At first glance this may look trivial.
The Brazilian Real, R$199.95 (price of SoT) is equivalent to:
    AUD $67.81
    CAD $62.95
    Euro €41.53
    GBP £36.99
    NZD $73.96
    USD $48.15

Although it doesn't seem much, considering the game is cheaper there going by the current exchange rate.

    Actual cost in each continent:
    AUD $100 in Australia.
    BR $199.95 in Brazil.
    CAD $79.99 in Canada.
    GBP £50 in the U.K.
    USD $60 in America.
Sorry I don't know the retail price of SoT in other regions.

However, it's the monthly minimum income that puts it all into prospective with cost of living.

R$897.00 minimum salary is equivalent to:
    AUD $304.26
    CAD $282.38
    Euro €186.32
    GBP £165.94
    NZD $331.98
    USD $215.97

    Remember that's per month.
The game costs them almost a 1/4 of their monthly salary. I'm sure it wouldn't sell anywhere else in the world for a whole weekly paycheck.

Although the pricing would have been a money hungry MS decision, out of Rare's control, this seriously needs readdressing.

  • @admiral-rrrsole It's basically what I said earlier, you either make the game free here in SA , or sell it dirt cheap in constant sales, or you keep the steap price and you get no buyers beyond a few thousand copies. This game is very SA friendly, since it doesn't demand a high end rig to run it, most people here don't own an xbox, so it's mostly PC, in other words the biggest impairment is the price, people jusst don't want to make the investment when they can just play other free multiplayer games, it's just how huehuehue rolls.

  • 200 euro a month i cant imagine then how much is the payment per hour? I should hire brazillian pirates to escort me on my chicken merchant voyages

  • Yeah buy gamepass on ebay or buy the game from another country. Im not one for vpn or buying from other countries stores but seems a fair in your case.

As for the pricing of the games in your country is it taxes or the companies set those prices? Whichever it is make sure they know and get people together to let them know.

its not that, its the exchange isn't friendly. 200R is only about 50USD. it has more to do with the needed incomes in different countries to live.

  • @captain-coel thats expensive but gamepass codes on ebay can be found pretty cheap, which might make a better deal for you. If manage to grab some gamepass codes at egx I will send them your way

  • The thing is. The game has a fair price for worldwide comparison.
Costing 41€ is a great drop and a big money saver for VPN buyers.
Here in Portugal it cost 70€ (69.99€).

What's outrageous is the minimum wage in Brazil.
I'm not seeing much Rare or Microsoft doing here. The problem is in the government and Brazil's economy. 😐

  • @nunoazuldimeter Brazil's economy sucks, yeah. BUT how we can pay for other games here? We can affort almost every big game (dont wanna tell games name here) in our country, but SoT it's so expensive yet.
Conclusion is: our economy here sucks but its not the problem, if it were we would not be able to buy other great games!

  • @hayden-almeida OH I see. I thought that was the general games price.
Because here in portugal every AAA game has the same launch price. only changing with ocasional promotions.

In that case, yeah, it seems MS problem.

  • @blair187 dude I'm not the OP. I was just pointing out the issue. I've owned the game since day 1

  • @hayden-almeida
Hello Mr Almeida, thanks to the much appreciated explenation of Mr Admiral RRRshole, by the way, why do you give yerself that name , you don't seem to be a RRRshole to me? So thanks to explanaining yer monthly wage i can see your problem....But Rare is not your problem, i fear your moneygrabbing politicians are the one to blame...Now i understand the people who were protesting during the WorldCup in Brazil...i don't want to start a revolution that will kill a few thousend of innocent people but being exploited in this way...Somebody needs to stand up for the Brazilian people who are " just" workingforce...This is simply not fair...Not at all...And i bet Brazil is overrun by companies and factories that have smelled the oppertunity to exploit a cheap labourforce...Shame on them...

  • @captain-coel & @Admiral-RRRSole It’s a sad situation I'm not gonna lie, but this is an exaggeration. As far as I know here in Mexico the minimum salary is about half of Brazil’s. None of my friends are on a minimum salary situation, and I could bet there simple doesn’t exist a mexican with minimum salary who owns an Xbox One.

Do you even think the people in Brazil who gets minimum salary would even have an Xbox? Or a PC? Probably they don’t even have a TV, or at least not a flat screen one. How would they even plan to buy games?

Anyways, I know the game is too expensive, but as I said, it's an exaggeration to mention a minimum salary literal situation as an example.

  • @xxx1ra1xxx THe minimum salary is to put into perspective what feels atractive to buy for most people here, realistically speaking we BRs got about 60% of the population that make a little over twice the minimum wage, therefore considered middle classed, but in that vain we also have video game trends like how the majority of br gamers prefer the playstation over xbox, how most console players buy soccer games and how most pc players play free to play multiplayer titles. All these market trends already disencourage players from reaching sea of thieves, now on top of that the game is expesive.

  • Perhaps Micro$oft could take a look at this one day?

  • @admiral-rrrsole Mate, you are a numbers machine. LOL. Thank you for that info. 1/4 of your monthly salary is definitely too much to ask. Hopefully Rare/Microsoft take notice of this and make some adjustments.

  • @xxx1ra1xxx I can appreciate your point, mate.
I did look at the link I provided above when I commented a few days ago. There is a slight discrepancy as to what the minimum salary is. BR$897.00 or BR$954.00

Out of curiosity, how much was this game at launch in Mexico?

  • @nofears-fun lol Thanks but I cheated by getting all of those figures from the net (currency convertor). Shhh ;o)

  • @admiral-rrrsole dijo en Price in Brazil:

About $1200 or $1300MXN, I think that would be like 60 USA dollars

Asking for a lower price for Brasil as minimum salary is low would be like asking for an helicopter to throw SoT copies from it on Haiti. They would be very happy to have a Sea of Thieves copy in their hands. Just kidding

But I agree with you in the fact that Sea of Thieves shouldn’t be too expensive, but not as specific case for Brasil, I mean in all countries as I’m not sure if it’s worth the actual price

  • @xxx1ra1xxx frankly the game should be going through multiple sales every so often, like every major content patch comes out with a sale 40% to 70% off depending, not just for brazil but for other countries, though more targeted to hit South/Central American countries. Again it all comes back to video game trends of each country, is it worth it to make a thousand full price transaction in one community or ten thousand smaller priced transactions over several communities? Up to microsoft to allow the price to drop, this isn't on Rare, they borrow the distribution platform but its microsoft that dictates the pricing, they act as if they own some monopoly but all it takes is valve to flex slightly and they cower.

  • I think you guys are trying to help but the point is: Our salary is not the problem! As i said earlier... we can affort BIG GAMES! So i dont know whose fault it is, but our salary is not! Brazilians are passionate about pc games, when perhaps Microsoft agrees to this market and not be exaggerated with prices, they will be able to win a big chunk of the market.

Meanwhile they can settle for the current amount of players.

  • The average Brazilian salary is 2200 BRL. So 200 BRL for the game is approximately 1/11th of the salary. Game Pass is 287 BRL for a year. Doesn't sound too bad for SoT, Forza Horizon 4 and 180 other games.

  • @x1-two I think you're pretty wrong. I live here in Brazil and i am telling you the salary is not good even because we have TAXES in products/services too (50% to gov).

Bigger games we pay here R$120,00 MAXIMUM! The average we pay R$40,00. SoT is R$200,00 hahaha....

PROMOTIONS on Steam we have games going to R$15,00 or bigger games going to R$60,00 or less than this.
