Private server?

  • @aarghmaargho it is not a public server, it is a server in which the host or payer chooses who enters that server and who does not.
In this way, each one will experience the game as they like.

  • @bardahcazo
Yeah and then we are back at the point made earlier that you are removing a core aspect of the game by adding that.

Giving dedicated servers will result in PvE or solo servers because it gives people the option to do so, and that takes away the core design point of another random player being the threat.

The only way to add dedicated servers is no rewards, you can still do it all but without rewards since you remove core game mechanics.

  • This argument never dies :)

I honestly still can't see why people are so against private servers. Rewards in this game don't give you anything that can hurt others, so no advantage whatsoever. (unless you're hurt if someone has a prettier pirate than you)

It wouldn't be a bad thing to have a private session. Those who don't have a crew at hand all times would be encouraged to play anyways, instead of being a targets.
Also for those who don't have that much gaming time in their hands, could actually just head for nearest outpost to sell their stuff and quit playing, instead of having to avoid that big galleon that happens to be in the area. Those situations easily stretch the gaming time for hour or two.
And those with little pirates running around the cabin (kids in the house) could just anchor up for a while, to pay attention whats happening outside of the game.
I think it would make the game more accessible for lots of people.
More players is always good, even if I don't meet them. I'm sure we're not running out of pirates to shoot at, even if there was options for private and open servers.

  • @ghostpaw I'll probably never get to PL and I agree. It's not like it really matters. It's not like you get anything special gameplay wise other than colors and such

  • @aarghmaargho As you see it, removing the rewards is also removing a fundamental aspect of the game.

For me it is not about uncertainty, battle, interaction, etc.
I see it as another way to play, if this game looks for stereotypes of players its base of players will soon be reduced (more than what has already been reduced), it is to open doors and not close them to the capture of other types of players that can contribute to the game.

because honestly the only thing I see is the argument against this idea, being "this game is called sea of thieves" "is fundamental mechanics" or "is pirate thematic"

  • While we're at it why don't we get rid of skeletons, they slow your progress down and kill you, and all that pesky ocean getting in the way of your levelling, let's just make everything on one island.

  • @bardahcazo said in Private server?:

@aarghmaargho As you see it, removing the rewards is also removing a fundamental aspect of the game.

Yup, if the rewards would be sololy removed we end up with a Pirate battle simulator.
Just like if you remove other players, you end up with a sailing simulator from point A to B.

Both of these things are not how Rare designed the game and in which direction they want it to go.

You're not complaining on Fifa forums that you want a basketball game do you?

For me it is not about uncertainty, battle, interaction, etc.

Yeah people have said that pre Beta that the game wouldn't take off, post Beta, pre release, post release and after every content drop. Yet here we are with a game that is still rising in player numbers. And Rare has stated recently as well that they are still confident in developing and supporting the game. They wouldn't do that if the game was actually dead/dying.

@IndyJack Why not just create a PL character at start and have all cosmetics already?

  • join a fleet and use discord, there are tons of servers filled with people just grinding athenas and other tasks

  • As I see it, the organized crews and groups are going to find ways to play together, even if it takes a while to set up. I think that's fair and within the general understanding that every interaction is unique. Someone might just refuse to give you their ship, and that's something that everyone who attempts to take over a server has to deal with.

By putting in play Private Servers with the possibility to acquire Currency, we create a different experience. One that negates the randomness of player interaction. That is why I'm against the idea.

I'm a player who enjoys collecting ships to get my friends and union members on the same server. It's really fun to be able to play with a bunch of your friends. I've coordinated many different events and I can see how this can have a disastrous effect on how the game is meant to be played.

What I suggest is that we can have Private Servers but to remove currency(gold)/achievement/doubloons from them. By doing this, we keep the current order of things while offering players the opportunity to create their own adventures and challenges.

  • @electrhino9161 Nerp. Private loot farms would be silly.

as you tell me such a thing, after having more than 6 million players and staying with just over 1 million, which is growing nowadays, but if you really want a great base of players is easy, put it on free to play .

to say that you have to limit things to get on private servers (which are never synchronized with the officers, aciendo separate progress for server type) is like saying that your 60 dollars are worth more than mine.

As the development of the game goes, the community will become very limited to the stereotype of players that rarely seems to follow, the opening of borders always benefited any game so that this would not be an exception.

But it is only my point of view, it is obvious that each person has their way of thinking, but trying to make this game more "broad" is not to take a step back.

As always feel free to devatir with me, I like to analyze all points of view.

  • @bardahcazo I would have to agree with you. As for the people who say that private servers would kill the PvP of the game, all I can say is Rare already did that with cursed sails and @ClarionZ is right. All you get in this game is cosmetics, so why are you saying that if these are implemented in the game Rare shouldn't allow you to get gold and rep? Sounds dumb and is not very strong argument considering that you only get cosmetics. Or are you saying that that would be an incentive to be on private servers cause if it is this debate is turning strangely like when the Xbox players asked to have non cross play servers. Hmmmmm.

  • Whoever disagrees this post is probably towards you grieving others on Xbox when your on pc SOME PEOPLE just like to mind their own business without having to worry about players like you so a message from players like me grow up act like an adult and not like a lil kid or teenager thank you and stop ruining our lives have a blessed day
