I am a relatively new player and every time I try to go into a shop the door is boarded up so I can't go in to buy anything but have not been able to find an explanation online or how to get them to open. So far I have played for a few hours and in that time I have only found one gun shop open but that was only at one outpost.
Why are all the shops boarded up?

The shopkeepers are all out scared in the center of the island while the skeleton ship event is going on - they have even battened down the hatches and closed their stores... however, you can still speak to them near the skeleton ship sign and access their store inventories.
