Help me find the bottleneck

  • Hello community, I love Sea of Thieves but seem to be having a problem running it on my computer. I run the game in 1080p and even if I put the game graphics down the cursed in everything, I keep getting constant dips from my 55 Fps down to 20 Fps every 10 seconds. This happens no matter what I’m doing in the game.

    My computer specs are:
Intel Core i5 4690K (Turbo boosting to around 4.2)
    Corsair Vengeance Pro 8GB X 2, 2133MHz, 11-11-11-27, 1.5v
AMD Sapphire R9 380 with nitro cooler with 4096MB memory
    Radeon Software Version: 17.12

  • I'd say your R9. I love AMD and all but Unreal games run so badly on AMD cards. When I switched over to an Nvidia 1060 card all of my problems were instantly gone.

(I used to have an R9 card as well and the drivers for them are hit and miss so maybe it's a driver issue).

  • My Girlfriend had the same issue. I Reinstalled her windows and it was fixed then...

  • Thank you both for the input, I will try a fresh install of Windows and SoF to see if that helps any. If the problem continues after that I think I'll have to bite the bullet, do the same as Hynieth and upgrade my card.

  • @stephenp7990
maybe it's thermal throttling? That might cause drops as well.

    good luck though!

  • I used to have an older AMD card during Alpha and it gave me a lot of issues. Ever since my switch to a 1070 it's been flying. I've had too many bad experiences with AMD to go back ever again.

  • I had an RX480 running just fine. You can't just blame AMD for everything for 1 bad experience.
