Underwater camera control limitations

  • So after seeing the video of the new Bilge Rat adventures, my initial thought was "AMAZING!" immediately followed by "Hmmm.. more underwater stuff, why is our camera still limited underwater?"

I'm sure everyone has noticed that once you're swimming in a shipwreck that's positioned weirdly the camera controls seem to be working against you. The reason for this is that the limitations above water also apply underwater.

What I'm hoping for is that Rare would allow us to just have free camera movement underwater. Pressing up shouldn't stop once you're aiming to the sky, you should just continue turning because you just have to freedom of movement underwater. Sure it'll get some people lost and swimming the wrong direction, but isn't that how it is in real life too? So wouldn't it be more immersive?

So how do my fellow pirates think about this? Leave a comment below.

  • @fishst1ck It sure can get confusing down in the depths. A little change like this would be welcome.

  • @luciansanchez82 look at that new shiny! ;P

@FishSt1ck I finally get what you mean now - yeah we should be be able to swim in circles!

  • I'm fine with the way it is right now. I understand where you're coming from, but I think I'd get confised about what's up and down if I were to freely move 360 degrees.

Maybe It's because I've been playing too much Subnautica but I'd say make it a toggle so I can keep my old way :-)

  • @fishst1ck Agreed! It's not too high on my list of priorities, and I've kind of got used to it now, but I still managed to get myself stuck every single time I dive into a shipwreck!! So yes, I'd like to see it changed...

  • @fishst1ck I like the idea but maybe add it into the options so you dont need to have it on but you can if you so chose. Just my thoughts on the topic.

  • @moomintroll It's not just the swimming that causes issues with getting stuck - the actual models themselves and terrain will snag you. There's one post broken and sticking up at the back of the mid deck catches me every single time!

  • @sshteeve Ha ha - me too!!

  • @moomintroll Same here, let's protest the removal of that post!!!

Rare remove the post!!! No not this one!

  • @sshteeve Still not showing on my screen, but as long as everyone else can, I'm cool!

I'm fine with this suggestion, though really all we need to fix underwater is player collision hitboxes... I can't even swim between two wooden beams that are pretty widely spaced apart, because my collision hitbox is bloody GIGANTIC... i get stuck on EVERYTHING swimming inside shipwrecks... It's annoying. xD
