with all the people that have got to legend at current state, i would feel less amused that i was able to do it at a faster rate. i wanna earn it like the rest of em. i agree it would be nice but i don't think i would like it... that's not to say that i wont be taking advantage of the doubloons rep purchases, but it is also kind of an embarrassment to the others that made it
Change the pirate legend grind
@general-crispy1 sagte in Change the pirate legend grind:
Right now the only to get to pirate legend is to grind every day ...
In my opinion is the boring grinding system the big problem in general. That's why i would like to have more different opportunities to get the legendary Pirate title .
Here are my ideas about it:
https://www.seaofthieves.com/forum/topic/64232/new-and-different-opportunities-to-get-the-legendary-pirate-title@zaannox Not all of us can play the game every single day for hours on end; stop getting jealous that we're getting it "easier" just because you chose to do nothing but grind. Just because you got Legend status while the system was broken, it shouldn't mean that the rest of us need to endure a broken system which is currently on the verge of being fixed. Stop acting so self-righteous and be happy for the game getting fixed, although we have the possibility to earn it quicker than you did, it doesn't change the fact that you got it first.
@spunkus-skunkus
The game isn’t “broken”, if it was I would’ve never been able to reach Legend; that’s #1.2: I’m not “jealous”, that you guys are getting it easier. The more Legends that there are, the higher the chances are that I FINALLY GET SOME CONTENT.
- I didn’t play everyday. I got the game 2 weeks after launch. Played about 4-6 hours a day. More if I had the day off from work, up to 10. And then I took another week and a half off for personal reasons and went back to the same schedule.
You’re not Legend, because being Legend isn’t a priority for you. And that’s just the simple fact of the matter. I’m a grown man that pays his bills just like the rest of us and I got Legend before 99.84% of the community because it was my priority. It’s obviously not yours.
What I’m against is people who don’t deserve Legend to get Legend. Legend shouldn’t be handed out like it’s candy on Halloween. It’s meant to be earned. So earn it. If you REALLY wanted to be Legend, you would be Legend by now. That simple.
@drbullhammer Sucks for them then. It’s really that simple. Don’t put yourself into a situation where you don’t have time to do what you want to do. That’s how you live a miserable life.
If you can’t play every day you’ll just get legend slower. But you’ll still get legend. I don’t think pirate legend should be made easier for casual players. It’s there for dedicated players that put the time in. If you put more time in you get legend quicker. I’m not on everyday and have had spurts of not playing, once I had a break for around two weeks and I’m currently mid 40’s. So I haven’t long to go and if I want legend quicker I’ll have to make some time to do it. My partner has played a lot more than me and as a result has legend already. That’s how it should be. I shouldn’t expect legend to be made easier for me because I didn’t put in as much time as he did. It’s a reward for time spent and dedication to the game.

If they change the grind now, they are basically slapping all current pirate legends in the face and making the status they worked so hard for mean basically nothing. This is such a bad idea.
Good. Do it. All pirate legends I met in the game have been entitled p****s.
@x1-two and exactly how many have you met? Cause I've only met good ones, even the ones that just want PVP never scream insults at us or disrespect us in anyway.
I went AFK once and came back to find a legend and his mate stealing my supplies, I asked for them back and instead of killing me he gave me a couple of captains chests and marauders as well in exchange for what he took and we left each other peacefully.
Sorry you've had bad experiences with legends but that doesn't mean the grind should be any less for you.

You’ve obviously had bad luck , I on the other hand have experienced the opposite. We landed on an island where pirate legends were doing a skulls voyage and not only did we cohabit the island for our respective voyage, they also gave us some of the skulls they wasn’t interested in before we left. That’s one of many experiences, not to mention my second ever legend voyage was from a guy that jumped in and put it down in our sloop so me and my partner could do it. Didn’t have to do that. But to say let’s make the grind easier because all pirate legends in your experiences and opinion are entitled p****s doesn’t help the game.
@zaannox And what part of you thinks I don't want to be legend? I got the game at launch and have put as much time as I possibly can into the game - unlike you however, I can't spend 4-6, possibly 10 hours a day playing Sea Of Thieves so I really don't appreciate your remark regarding my desire to become a Pirate Legend. The truth is that if people are pirate legend now, it's almost certainly due to the fact that they have more time on their hands, If it were only a matter of skill, then I'm sure that I and many others would be climbing the ranks quicker... but it's not... which is why we want change and why people like you who get annoyed when the standards are lowered are starting to really anger people like me who simply don't have the time to put into the game.
Even by your standards, you have to admit that the grind is WAY too long; if it takes someone nearly 2 weeks to beat the game after playing non-stop and using unfair methods to gain that title, then something is surely broken.I want to be a Pirate Legend, more than anything else I want to become a Pirate Legend... but the standards are set too high, and making it easier for people to get to PL is a step in the right direction.
I have to disagree. In many games such as overwatch or world of Warcraft and many others the grind was hard and long SOT is no different. I took time out of my day and lost much sleep trying to reach pirate legend. It was hard and Long but thats the point pirate legend isn't meant to be easy or kinda hard its meant to take time and plenty of effort. If you put in the hours you will reach it eventually just like in any other game.. Don't force a rank to become easy to achieve to suite your needs.
@spunkus-skunkus You’re completely right! The grind to PL is completely ridiculously long and requires a lot of time and dedication....
But that’s the point! And why I don’t want it to be made easier.I wouldn’t say just because someone has a different lifestyle to you and more time on their hands means they have an unfair advantage and the system is broken.
I don’t see why it’s fair to be bitter against someone’s lifestyle because they do have the time to sit and play for hours on end when I don’t. That’s not their problem it’s mine.
I really don’t think we should make pirate legend available after a week of play for say the average gamer because a minority can’t play for more than an hour here or there. You still get legend you just get it slower because you are slower working towards it.
However you look at it, no matter how easy they might make it due to casual gamers complaining the end game reward for time and dedication to a game isn’t quick enough for their casual approach. There will always be people with more time than you that can grind longer hours than you and get things done quicker than you.
It’s not broken, it’s not their fault, they haven’t got a unfair advantage that means you can’t achieve what they have. It’s just life. What you put in is what you get out. I don’t think getting the ultimate title in the game is set too high at all. If anything plenty of games have made it so much harder.
@general-crispy1 said in Change the pirate legend grind:
Im perfectly fine with putting in the time to get to pirate legend even with the stagnation, but i feel like casual players should be able to experience pirate legend as well, just at a much slower pace.
Thats exactly how it stands as is, so whats the problem?....according to that statement its perfect as is
you will get there, just at a slower pace..except for the fact you can buy your way past the last few levels soon.. Dont be in such a hurry as there isnt much to do once you get it anyway. Everyone who plays the game will get to it eventually.
Your statement above contradicts itself

I agree, sort of, but the Legend status already means nothing. So I don't see what the fuss is about with making changes to the grind.

If it means nothing, why do care about making it easier to obtain? clearly it means something.

I think part of the issue is the way you are looking at it. There is no "beating" this game. If pirate legend was the reward for some end game campaign, then you are right, compared to the amount of time campaigns usually take to beat, it would be considered absurd.
But it's not a reward for beating the game. It's an achievement showing your dedication and love of a game.
The fact of the matter is, if there was a game that required 200 hours to beat and achieve the big reward, the quickness at which this is done depends on the individual and the time they have to dedicate to it. Some people will get it done in a couple of weeks because they have the time. Others may require months because their schedule doesn't allow as much free time.
This doesn't mean the amount of time to achieve it is "unfair" to those that have busier schedules. If the time were reduced, those which have the free time would get it done even quicker.
Everyone earns roughly the same rep for turning in the same stuff. If you turn in more stuff, you get farther. It is the nature of video games in general. If you have more time to play, you get farther.
@norloc I agree. I want the experience of working for my legend title and I don't think watering down the achievement of getting to Pirate Legend is the answer to anything. All it does is shorten the time before people start complaining that they have nothing left to achieve.

I wasn't one of the people who said it should be made easier. It doesn't matter if they do or not. All Legend status is, is a title and a gross purple outfit. It's completely meaningless, and if you're grinding just to get there, your missing the point of the game. It's like driving through the Swiss Alps without ever looking out the side windows, and only looking at the white line on the road.
They are already implementing all kinds of ways to hit pirate legend, I’m not sure which part you find “Grindy”.
Also as many have pointed out, those who became pirate legend had it much harder than you, assuming you’re not are just recently became pirate legend.
They already toned the the issue with getting castaway chests every other level 45 gh voyage and stuff like that so you do get there faster than before. Also maybe don’t worry about the grind so much. I was grinding for pirate legend from launch and as soon as I got to around the 45 range I began finding other games to play. Every so often I’ll come back and play this and I’m now almost pirate legend without really noticing, just missing merch.

People rushing to finish and get the status of Pirate Legend is kinda the problem. The content in the game is lacking, the grind is awful but it will improve with each update. I'm casually playing, I'm in no hurry, and so it doesn't feel grindy. If I was trying desperatly yo get to 50 it would.
@rockinpodunk I agree with your Alps analogy but not your suggestion that legend is a waste of time and worthless.
If I had really wanted, I could have ground my way there but instead I've had fun, made friends and enjoyed the distraction of social interaction. I've completed the Meg multiple times, helped randoms get all the thrones and played around to get other people achievements.
That however doesn't lessen my desire to get legend. Hopefully within the next couple of weeks but if I continue to enjoy the game and that stretches to 4 or 6 weeks because I get distracted, that's fine with me. It's not going anywhere. In my oppinion they allready made it waaay easier once the letters of recommendation give you one full level !
49 to 50 that cuts a couple hours of the actual grind...
I hit pirate legend without using merchant cheese or any other cheese, i did the grind and i will allways be able to say I hit it before the letters were even a thing and i am proud of not having to resort to such measures. I came, I saw and i plundered.
And dont forget hitting PL isnt the end of the grind it just gets more Real, you have to do 93 Athenas voyages to hit full lvl 10 PL and have access to all the sweet gear and guess what there are no letters of recomendation for that, which i think is a good thing btw because even if there where i wouldnt use anyway because of my damned pride. But i guess once the real casuals start getting easy PL they will also start demanding easy Athenas Rep.
And 93 athenas voyages just means:- 93 x 2 4 part riddles
- 93 x 2 4 chest x marks the spot maps
- 93 x 2 4 captain order of souls bountys
- 93 x 2 merchant voyages
- 93 x 1 single chest x marks the spot maps (athenas chest)
Which means to get 93 athenas chests you have to find/dig up/beat:
- 930 Gh chests
- 744 captains
- 744 animals/gp barrels
Or a grand total of 2511 (athenas chests included) of objectives to be fullfilled
Even though i am PL i helped 9 crews kill the meg, 4 crews to sit on thrones and countless hours not speedrunning athenas to help lower lvl players level up by doing athenas or just lvl 50 voyages for the other trading companies.
@callmebackdraft The idea of buying my Legend status hurts me in my feels. I'll be getting my last 5 levels in OOS and Merchant the old fashioned way.
I'll save the doubloons in case I can't be online to complete an event and want some of the cosmetics.
That is an excellent synopsis of full Athena though.I stopped caring about Pirate Legend once I googled what the reward was. That put the final nail in the coffin for me and I spent the remainder of my 14 day Game Pass trial just sailing around and shooting at any ship I could find.
The ship combat is literally the only exciting thing about this game at this point to me. The grind is insane and pointless.
