I was thinking again about the beautiful night sky of SOT and its Northstar, and it got me again on this idea of having quests which would grant you a special kind of "starmap", that you could hold (only at night) over your head and "see" special waypoints who could guide you to, lets say, to specific points on the sea where you would have to dive real deep down to retrieve some kind of "Star Artifact". All as an example.
What do you galls and guys think about that?

Have always wanted a map that takes you away from following the obvious directions and using the stars instead! I hope one day they do at least utilize the fact they have the north star in game.
It would also you require to take your time on the voyage as the stars would only be visible for a short amount of time, making the voyage that little more trickier!
This is a great idea. It could even be a quest from an entirely new trading company, the Astonomers.
You go pick up a star map, and instead of the familiar "x marks the spot maps" where you have to check your ship's map table and compare the image to the islands there to figure out which one, you instead have to hold the star map to the sky to compare constellations or maybe the map could glow when properly aligned with certain stars to tell you which direction to go.
Anything to make night time more interesting, because is it me or does it seem like it's night for way more time than it's day time?

But it would be hard to be precise with this method.
The current character animations don't allow us to hold the map up above our heads against the night sky but if they did, it would be very cool indeed.
Match your handheld map of the stars up against the sky then when perfectly aligned your map glows green like solving part of a riddle quest.
Quickly drop the anchor and dive straight down.
The loot should glow a certain radius the deeper it is.
I see another person asking for more useage of the gorgeous night sky; I updoot! I've suggested something similar in the past, and I've asked a question in the past if we'll see more development of the night sky, to which the answer was something along the lines of "We don't see why not, maybe in the future".
Here's to hoping that "future" is soon !
@simplybutta it would be cool if we could create our own constellations like in animal crossing. But the only problem I can think of really is if using a map with the stars... They are visible all arround the map. So if I were to point it up to the sky in an outpost, it would solve the quest... It would need to be like a map of islands and tell you to dive when timing with stars are at some point...
Maybe have the shadow of the island and the stars on its back to know which side of the island and how far away to dive from it.
I completely want to see what they come up with tho!!! And I would love for it to be a different faction!!!!
I would very much love to see more use being made of the night sky, constellations for instance and having them used for quests would be perfect in my view.
We already have the North star and use was made of that in another event during alpha testing I believe, perhaps E3 last year but I forget - so I think it's definitely something that is on Rare's radar....
