Timed shipwreck icon on map.

  • What would be cool is some sort of a small icon in a generic area you sunk. Just to give a chance to make it back to see if there is any loot left from your wreck.

Maybe a couple of minutes before it disappears or when you're near the icon vanishes.

  • I have always thought that your loot should drift at sea and wash up on some beach near where you sunk for anyone to find. Would definitely add an element of realism to sinking with loot. Plus you don't have to worry about it sinking and going away you can just search the general area where you sank and see if you can find it.

  • A great idea!
How many times has someone sunk and completely lost track of their location because of the heat of the moment in a naval battle?!

We had to track down one of our lads sat on a rock with a Captain's Chest once and in the end we told him to dump it as it was taking too long to find a random rock in the water!

  • @tbl-dan-999 Nice idea, especially with resources becoming more valuable in future updates with the addition of Cursed Cannonballs etc. Being able to retrieve some of your loot and resources could be an interesting mechanic.

Although I originally thought your idea was for a timed Shipwreck public event... which could be very interesting indeed!

  • God, I hate mini-map type things. It’s enough that you can see your own ship on the map. We don’t need this.

@Sshteeve Why couldn’t you find him? Could he not see where he was? Could he not see any islands from his rock? This is more an issue of people not knowing the map than needing some artificial means of seeing where they sank.

Besides, if you were in a battle, unless you both sank, your enemy got your stuff.

  • @bran-the-ent I entirely agree with you on this. It shouldn't be that hard to find.
Where were coming from and where were you going? Is there any landmark you recognise? Is there an island you can attempt to swim to and get the island banner to pop up and then return to the saved loot?
We had an unfortunate situation being sunk by Kraken when all but me went AFK leaving me solo with a galleon of goodies recently. Fortunately I had the sense to have a good look around before dying and we rushed back up there and retrieved everything.
Also had a similar situation with a fort key, where I managed to swim from where I stashed it on a random rock to just inside the banner area before dying and confirmed that I had been where I thought I was.
