Fortnite / Sea of Thieves

  • Fortnite has a very similar look and style
Sea of Thieves easily has the potential to attain the same level of success in my opinion
In terms of the direction that the SOT devs can take the game...
If the Fortnite devs had you go on dialogue box quests - Does anyone think the Fortnite community would like it? or not?

  • Dialogue box quests?

  • @arch-fable He’s referring to The Hungering Deep questline. It’s essentially speaking to NPC’s via dialogue boxes to gain the information needed to proceed. Some people feel that wasn’t an appropriate way to run the quest line.

In my opinion, it wasn’t bad by any means. Really the only other way would be to find maps or be given maps by NPC’s and do essentially GH or OoS style missions to gain the clues, which could be complicated with everyone running the same voyages at once.

  • @daddy-sanctus

    Oh, okay then. Thanks.

  • I agree it could be better and yes I think fortnite players can get into SoT but its going to more and the right updates.

  • fortnite is f2p, sot is p2p, there is a clear disadvantage to sot, you have to attract players with content first before getting the cash, which can be damning for a game, it is still in the realm of possibility that sot might shut down before fortnite does.

if sot does a battle royale mode reveal at e3 tho i will puke.

  • @madtba999enz Dialogue box quests kinda sound loosely like "Save the World" mode in a way. (In Fortnite)

  • Thanks for the replies guys
Just my opinion I think that the dialogue boxes r just an old style that takes u out of the awesome in game open world experience of SOT ...it seems that the best focus on future development would have much less focus on the dialogue box story mode and more emphasis on encounters with other players.the devs can "force" encounters the way they did by requiring a 5th drummer ...now just use some imagination to force all sorts of encounters to, say... Assemble a team to defend a fort, sink a skeleton ship chains a bunch of those kind of encounters together; not make the whole campaign a dialogue box quest leading to 1 boss fight

  • I like everything but the actual text boxes. Give us the voice work for all our NPCs! Including the guild dealers. You got the budget and you got the skills. That would be more immersive. Sprinkle some "useless" NPCs around the islands and outposts. Make them occasionally useful by having them provide quests every once in awhile.

I want my NPC encounters to be like the HD trailer. It's basically just a cut-scene.

  • @daddy-sanctus
It's not that the dialogue boxes r all that bad ...its when its the basis of a quest
In the much anticipated first campaign it was dialogue after dialogue merrick book bartender book bartender book merrick
Predictable ordinary and just unimaginative the machanics of the shark fight were very cool
    Requiring a 5th very cool
The game is amazing for its unpredictable encounters with other ships and how the raid draws that
Def not the style of the quest leading up to the shark fight
Even 12 yr olds would be bored with the initial parts of the quest
There was no development in the initial quests they just activated books and characters by adding dialogue to them ...how does a title compete with everything out there with that kind of dlc?

  • @madtba999enz Well, the DLC is free

  • @madtba999enz they might be able to do something like that in the future, but personally i dont really think so even though i hope they do.

However i dont mind for THD because they had to do all the stuff they did in 2 months
