Quiet Sea...?

  • Just questioning the lack of ships on the last half dozen servers I've been on. Last night our galleon sailed for 2+ hours and saw no ships at all.

    Anyone else noticing this?

  • No seems to be fine on the server I was on.

  • Must be the curse of the RNG.
Never around when you want to fight.
Never leave you alone when all you want's a gold chicken and a blue snake.

Worked out for merchant work I guess.

  • Games ded

  • At about 7 pm (my play time US) I encounter about 4 distant boats in 3 hours.. Never get merged and stay in the same server start to finish.. There are far more sloopers out there than galleons in my past few weeks of paying attention.. I see 3 sloops to 1 galleon it seems. Sometimes no galleons.. Sometimes no sloops or galleons lolol.
Did a skull fort Saturday all to myself during primetime hours. Was boring...

  • I see other ships every night. Daw two galleons and a sloop at the same time last night.

  • Might be my fault you aren't seeing other ships. I haven't played in almost two weeks. Don't know when I will try the game again. The Hungering Deep isn't going to bring me back.

Maybe when it seems geared to more exploration and less PvP I'll try it again.

    I was honestly worried.
But, so far the replies to this post seem to be siding with bad luck.
Based on their seamless server migration I figured I wouldn't notice a lack of player interest even if it WAS a thing.
    Still a little worried.

    Well, one week to THD.

  • @zeffin Yeah man, the game fell apart when you left. Your single presence was the only thing propping up the playerbase.

  • I'll trade with you. Last night I was playing with my crew for about 4-5 hours and there was always at least 2 other ships in view at all times.

In all honesty, you probably just happened to be on the opposite side of the seas from the others on your server.

  • @gloog Brain's dead.

  • @zeffin At least we'll still always have you here. Commenting in a game you aren't playing. And apparently have no future plans to play.

Server pop and game pop aren't really correlated. Just bad luck.

  • @captain-arcanic Even if the game was dying you would always see someone. Hell last time i played the original Battlefront two, there were still people online. Also the new battlefront games, the first of the new games especially, that game got so much backlash but you can log in now and play full matches.

If the numbers were dropping fast and did not go up at all, Rare would notice this and maybe shut down the servers. If we were at that number that would cause such a thing, we would still see players in the game world.

  • @zeffin Soooo, hanging out in the forums of a game you're not interested in any more....seems like a great use of your own time.

  • @captain-arcanic 2 servers last night, total of about 4 hours of game play. Saw 1 sloop. My buddy that joined my session late last night said his server from earlier that night had uncontested forts as well. Was odd for sure.

Side note, are you the one that hides a teasure on the docks? I feel like you said this at one point a few weeks ago. If so, did us leave a silver goblet on a dock last night? :)

  • Some may consider it lucky if you're just trying to work on PVE. You have the freedom to hoard treasure and do skull forts without interruption.

    Definitely an odd experience.

Yes, that's me! But I have the feeling more people are doing it now. Last one I left was a Disgraced Bounty Skull mixed in with the OoS lady's goods. Love the idea of a pirate doing a double-take on that one.

  • Only a few nights ago there were 4 sloops and a galleon going at. ..

    So many boats

  • @captain-arcanic I played for 4 hours straight and didn't see a single ship and I have pretty damn good internet.
Either the servers are whacked or the game is dead.

  • could be that with SoD2 dropping people were out playing that. I know later last night we ran a fort all alone in about 20 min, but we saw ships on the horizon from time to time. over the weekend, and earlier in the evening I joined a crew on a fort with 3 galleons, and 2 sloops fighting over it, so I think it's just timing. There seems to be some peak, and non peak hours for sure.

  • Played for 3 hours just now. Seen lots of ships

  • @ld0gg79 Well, I'd appreciate it if everyone would coordinate their playing with me so there are a lot of other ships out there when it's convenient for my schedule.

    Thanks!

Add this to the OP so we can get others casting votes! Also, hypothesis coming...

Did those experiencing empty servers happen to be playing on a ship that either started with a non full closed crew, or a closed crew with slots? I ask, because I have had this feeling 24 player caps would be hard to deal with when galleons could start as one player. Potentially after 6 single galleon crews started, a server would be locked, as the game must anticipate full crews. I just wonder if me starting a closed crew with an open slot is putting me with other closed crews with open slots, savy?

@LD0gg79 True, even I am guilty of an hour or two on that. :o

@NWO-Azcrack Don't know your time zone, but from my seat thats a very dead time to play typically. I notice far less activity on weekdays during say 11AM-3PM EST. Maybe they are getting better about matchmaking into servers and evening out players!

  • @captsubtext420

    LOL I can't be everywhere.

  • @warspyder

I do have a reason to be on the forums when I haven't played in a while.

  • I noticed Saturday night for me was dead. After my initial crew left it took a good 30 minutes before I got more crew mates.

I think Destiny 2 had some new DLC come out judging by my friends list's activity

  • It might come down to fort hopping, honestly
I was chasing a bully galleon when the raid popped up, they went to take it
I never attempted to participate, only prevented that one galleon from settling in and getting it
It turned into a massive battle royal that lasted hours and included eight different ships at different intervals as people would join in and give up over the coarse of its' duration (me, another sloop, and six galleons)

  • Whatever people experience I bet 80% of all who bought it, cannot play it.
I am so frustrated and sad now.

Part of me wants to test if I can play now without getting f***ed up by "longbeard" error anew.
But when it strikes again I wonder if my exhausted mind could take it?
Its the most depressing thing I have ever experienced since 20 years, this is how it feels.

I mean I have seen lots of s**t but nothing like this.
No matter what I do it just does not stop bugging out.
And I looked forward for this game so much.

  • @schelmflosse300 That sucks, i have never experienced the longbeard or almondbeard everyone is complaining about. I get it, I would be frustrated too.

  • @hoppentosse said in Quiet Sea...?:

I don't want to sound stuck-up, but my buddy always sees ships, flocks of birds and other things much later than I do. My setup is UHD 4k, his is not. When he stands in the crow's nest and thinks the horizon is free, I look and often at least see the shadow of a ship.

    Elitist Snob!!!! XD

  • @captain-arcanic I saw 3-4 ships everywhere I went last night. However; it was the first time nobody messed with my slope. Which was kind of nice to get some stuff done

  • I still see plenty of ships everywhere I go. I also don't spend much of my time focused on voyages, and instead sail around looking for people to interact with. It's very rare I go any amount of time without seeing at least one ship nearby.
