Long Fuse on Powder Keg

  • Look at keg.

    [Hold [key] to Light Fuse]

Fuse starts burning, 10 seconds later... BOOM.

  • Nice idea, But I'd say a 20-second fuse with audible hissing that can be extinguished.

  • I like this idea. You could use it to sabotage ships and set traps. Obviously with the audible hissing as @Only-Alexraptor suggested your foes would be able to hear it but sometimes people get caught up in the moment and it could catch them off guard. At the very least it would be nice to have the option.

  • @owenredbeard If they go to the trouble of inventing an actual lighter for this great idea, I wonder what other applications it could be used for...

These are the makers of Perfect Dark after all, where every weapon/tool had to have a secondary, if not even a tertiary function. You could, in theory, use the lighter to set vegetation aflame. (Clearing brush, scaring animals, fire-trap against enemy pirates?) You could maybe even use the lighter against sails. Either for one metal ship, or to actually cripple somebody else's speed.

Bonfires in the woods (reversed musical chairs game), signal fires on top of mountains (king of the hill game), brasiers lit in temples (investigator game), flammable puzzle obstacles etc.

Nice idea Owen, beat me to it!

Perhaps have it long enough that it could be defused by the opposing team? Maybe even with a bucket of water to put out the fuse?

  • Brilliant!

  • @arch-fable I would assume it would be some function with the flintlock pistol.

Sounds good, but how reasonable would it be?

  • @arch-fable I wouldn't say exclusively the pistol. Eye of reach would work too. You could either shoot the fuse (suspend disbelief please lol) or if you were close you could press some alternate button that would do a side turn with the firearm, putting the actual flint and blast cappish thing near the fuse, no ammo necessary. Or perhaps you have to unload the weapon to do this like you have to unload a cannon to fire yourself out of it. Seems an easier option than taking an item slot for a lighter (which I don't think existed back then) or a flint and tinder.

Also if we agree that a bucket of water dowses the flame, shouldn't storm like rain put it out too, or atleast make lighting it harder?

I prefer an additional item for diversity purposes, but giving a spark with flintlocks would suit fine too because this would make them situationally mandatory from a tactical angle. Shooting the fuse lit is something I cannot pass unless the bullet has some properties that are sensitive enough to react to the speed and substance of the fuse; or the content of the barrel making it a bit easier to manage, but in this light I suggest to add this property to a single firearm.

True. Not instantly though. I would use sand while on land and water while at sea.

  • @arch-fable I guess the reason I say pistol or eye is that the blunder is waaaayyyy over used. If a key element to PvP style combat, i.e. powder kegs, required a pistol or eye to light the fuse it might cut down the blunderbuss dominance.

  • Before adding something like this i think fixing the issue where sound effects just stop working, other than that i like it.

It would cut it. Giving weapons situational dependencies would effectively make them all useful when handled properly within their fantasy contexts.
