AFKers on The Ferry of the Damned

  • It has become increasingly noticable that a lot of players choose to go AFK on the Ferry of the Damned in perpetuity, thereby not being involved in the game ruining it for others making crews short in numbers, and being wholly disruptive, would Rare please make in a thing in the next maintenance to kick anyone spending a certain amount of time on the Ferry, say 5-10 mins max. out of the game server.
They want the rewards but dont want to hlep, or just want to cause pain for others.
I am getting quite fed up of this lazy behaviour.

  • Well they can either be afk on the ferry or literally anywhere else. This is more of an issue of people just being afk. If they were on the ferry they probably went afk before then and was killed. Basically, what's the problem?

  • The idle timer can be faked by putting a rubber band on the controller or using a script on PC. They'll eventually die, then be on the ship forever. An easy way to detect AFKers is dead players on the ship for 15+ minutes.

  • On the flip side of that, there needs to be a way of not getting kicked, the missions can be long and if you need to have a break before the booty is cashed in you get kicked and all your hard work is for nothing.

  • Only time i'll ever afk on the Ferry of the Damned is if i'm sailing a solo Sloop. Imo this is the only time it is truly acceptable to do so.

The main reason i do this is if i notice a skull cloud off on the horizon, killing oneself and giving it a few minutes on the ferry usually determines if anyone is clearing it (true enough a well oiled crew can clear the fort with zero deaths but i find those crews few and far between in my sessions). If no one shows it's a good indication no one is clearing it and vice versa many people in and out same ign's it's a sure bet they are clearing it. Or-

Alternatively i use this to see how calm or violent the crews of a given session are being. Can also be a decent place to make a Parlay deal with an opposing crew.
Like i said though ONLY during a solo session for myself. But i can see how this is an issue for full/duo crews.

    Right?

Because it's literally the only place in the game to meet others crews without the high chance that they'll just ignore you and shoot you in the face!

And they said there wouldn't be safe zones in the game, there is one, death!

    sigh

Back on topic though: I've noticed this a bit more frequently as well. I've even had a player camping a skull fort solo just waiting to ambush crews for an hour - As is, he had an hour there with no contest yet chose to wait and camp the first crew to arrive, solo no less? Finally his ship was found in the distance sailing to the fort (A galleon with his other mates), but the strategies some people employ in this game just make me shake my head out of confusion.

  • @dough3er Two days I start in a random group, and two sessions in a row I find that there is a person AFK on a galleon.

    Agreed here - it sucks.

  • RARE said in their latest video update that next week's patch will most likely contain the private crew feature.

Then they'll just respawn after 14 minutes and do the same thing again. Not saying it shouldn't be fixed but I'm not sure how unless there was a way to kick people from your crew.

  • @khol-thndrwlkr That would require a bot to detect death and move the character off the ship of the damned. It would still eliminate 99% of AFKers.

  • OK, so the last few days, this is now a regular occurrence, happening 3-4 times a day for me, so in my eyes, this could be happening to all players, which means a lot of afkers, particularly when going for a fort.
