Did it ever occur to you that skeleton forts have never meant to be done by solo players and be the McGuffin a server needs to gather at a point and beat the living ship out of each other?
Sea of thieves might not have vertical progression but doing skeleton forts is considered end game and since this is a extremly social game maybe socialising is the mid game...

Or try and crew up in general. Forts arent really designed for solo play, even if they are achievable by some
